  • A different Sam Bush performance, still excellent

I was fortunate enough to catch Sam & crew at a show in Athens, GA (Georgia Theatre). Sam seems the prefer smaller, more intimate venues like the one in Athens and the Bijou in Knox where virtually every seat is a winner. He performed many mid-period classics and it was a grand experience. This time around, he performed a lot of newer pieces (some from Storyman) and early classics. They are one talented group of musicians. Catch them if you can - it doesn't last forever. They performed a tribute to Tom Petty ("I Won't Back Down", as you would expect) and it was a rowdy hit with the audience.

  • SAM BUSH " THE MASTER"

by Stewy41 on 10/9/17U.S. Cellular Stage at the Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Once again Sam Bush delivered an amazing performance with top-quality musicians accompanying him. Scott Vestal blows my mind everytime I watch him play the banjo. Sam Bush is and always will be a master of the mandolin and any other instrument he places his hands on for that matter. I would follow him around and watch him every night if I had the time and money. The Bijou as usual was in full force and in all her glory Majestic as usual. My favorite venue to watch any musical performance.

  • Sam is a Joy!

by TNPassiflora on 10/9/17U.S. Cellular Stage at the Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I've loved this man & his music for nigh on 37 years or more now...this show was wonderful, as always. Sam's recordings are awesome, but there is nothing like seeing Sam live - he's music in motion. Here's a quote about Sam that pretty much sums him up perfectly: "If joy were a person, he’d bring both peace and frenzy. He’d be full of music, light, and energy that soothes even as it stirs us up. Eyes closed, wire-rim glasses in place, mandolin pressed against his ribs, joy would be Sam Bush on a stage." Sam's Band includes: Sam Bush (vocals, mandolin, fiddle, guitar), Scott Vestal (banjo, guitar), Todd Parks (bass-acoustic & electric, vocals), Stephen Mougin (guitar, vocals), & Chris Brown (Drums). They did a nice tribute to Tom Petty as well. Loved the "Ballad of Spider John!" And, that finale was off the charts, with Tim Stafford and Andy Wood standing in on an old Merle Travis tune, "Nine Pound Hammer." The mandolin duo of Sam and Andy was priceless!

Sam Bush was fantastic! He has so much fun on stage it is contagious. His band was awesome too. That banjo WOW! The Bijou was an incredible venue, not a bad seat in the house.

I have only heard of Sam from my husband who has been a big fan since Sam played with New Grass Revival. I have listen to his CDs but there is no comparison to hearing him live!

We saw Sam in concert at the Ryman many years ago. That show was great and he has not lost a beat since then. High energy, fantastic musicians and a wonderful show.

Sam Bush is one of the hardest working musicians. I was impressed with his gratitude toward the audience, his band and the guest musicians.

Great show by the daddy of jazz bluegrass, Sam Bush. His backup band is good as they come, and Sam has a high-energy presence onstage. This is a super show to see, and after 40 years of being a fan, I'd go again tonight if Sam Bush were performing.

  • Sam was great!

Great getting to see Sam again. He always has a great show! It was electric!

The concert was superb. Sam Bush is, frankly, amazing. He also assembled a top-notch band. They were talented and energetic. The weaving of Old Joe Clark, Midnight Rider, and I Just Want To Celebrate into a medley was almost worth the price of admission.
