Fantastic show. Impeccable musicianship. The showstoppers were The Ballad of Spider John and Old Joe Clark.

  • Sam and Del do not disappoint !

by BCarneal on 11/20/12Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This show was fantastic fun! It felt like you we're sitting with them in someone's living room at a picking session! Great music, fun banter, and lots of fun. Too bad the show was at the Birchmere, the staff of the venue has totally lost the customer perspective of why people enjoy a show like Sam and Del! The staff was totally Rude and disruptive!

Great performance. High energy. Rockin' mandolin. I've heard Sam at Merlefest several times and I always enjoy his shows.

  • Sound was horrible...Sam Bush Band in Raleigh NC

by gawilson on 2/19/11Progress Energy Center Meymandi Concert Hall - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

Sam and Scott were excellent and their instruments were ok but the rest of the sound was horribly bad---especially the drums. There was an awful rumbling which I think emanated from the drums (I thought it was the bass but I think the bass was ok). The vocals were good and don't get me wrong: the musicians were great but for Sam to have this level of poor level of sound is just disappointing. New Grass set the standard for good sound with the amplification of acoustic instruments. The guitar sounded like a plastic version of an acoustic but the real problem was the drums--not their being there, I'm no purist and New Grass Revival often used drums, but the horrible rumbling throughout everything.

  • Amazing but not compelling

An amazing musician, and if you happen to play mandolin, you will be in heaven. But if you don't, long solos will wear you out. Wished there were more songs with keen lyrics. Sound system in Raleigh was not very good. Still, if you love traditional music, or even new traditional music, don't miss seeing Sam play.

Good evening Music Lovers! This greeting from Sam Bush let's us know that we the lovers of music are in for the best kind of experience that we can hope to have. All kinds of music played with heart and soul and unmatched talent. Bluegrass, Rock, Reggae, Blues, even some Jazz licks, it's all there for our joy, that coupled with some great song selection and vocals that are always strong, on key, and delivered with conviction. All this and the King of Newgrass is a humble spirit mixed with a jesters sense of execution and timing. Anybody who likes music of any sort is going to walk away and say when can I have some more of that! Well worth the drive from anywhere to get there and have a Sam Bush Band show. Super nice people to boot.
