Caught Ryan Adams and the Cardinals at The Refinery in Charleston. Great venue. Clean and nice. Great stage. Great sound. Would revisit for sure.
Well, he was in a good mood so he played for over 2 hours with some random rants thrown in. It would have been nice to hear at least one song that you would know as a more popular Ryan Adams song. But, I will never forget the show that’s for sure!
Best show I’ve ever seen. Hands down no question. When Ryan Adams is with the cardinals, and they are coming to a town near you…you go!
Believe the reviews. Just a jam session. Boring! Not a lot of singing! 1st song lasted 35 min(2 of which was actual singing) And this was Every song!!! Setlist not good. Personality odd. Definitely not the Ryan Adams we wanted to see! Just glad we didn’t pay full price for tickets.
I know his reputation (negative) and have seen him several times because he is a gifted songwriter. But this was a self-indulgent mess. The stage was not lit and he never faced the audience. There was an unoriginal mix of lights flashing but never on the performers. This was a jam band experience, songs going on forever, but without interesting musicianship in the space. And stupid jokes that fell flat.
Had never been to King's Theater. Wow. Drop dead gorgeous, worth the trek if it's a band you love (or you're close). Ryan's reimagining of his songs was a bit jarring at first, but then became overpowering and magical. And the covers were so Ryan, if you know and love Ryan. With the smoke machine and Kiss and Iron Maiden, it was simultaneously hilarious and great. The band is beyond belief. The musician who likely would be least noticed is Daniel Clarke, who was brilliant. And not just Dear John where he was featured, he really held the whole thing. Whole band though was great, truly special.
I was so disappointed by the show. I didn't pay to see Ryan Adams to not actually see him. He was in the dark the whole time and faced the side. He has such an incredible reprtoir of songs, yet in 3 hours he sang maybe 10 songs with long over indulgent guitar solos.
This Brooklyn concert was boring and slow. No upbeat songs at all. And the band played without any stage lighting. The entire show. Very disappointing show.
I prefer acoustic Ryan Adams' shows. In this show he took acoustic songs that I love, changed the arrangements to slower hard driving electric renditions. in addition, songs were elongated to a point that became frustrating for me. I left before the show was over, as did other fans. Ryan is also doing solo acoustic shows this year. Unfortunately for me, the solo leg is not coming close to my area. Some in attendance clearly liked this show, others did not. I realize it's subjective in terms of this departure from his typical live performances. For me, I'm a big Ryan Adams fan and I did not like this particular concert at all. However, if the solo tour comes to my area I will definitely attend.
Absolutely killer jams in a totally boss venue. Only reason it's not 5 stars is they shut down concessions early. I could have used additional Chardonnay and popcorn to sustain me in the third hour. Would recommend!
Two extended and repetitious jams at the Beginning and at the end of the concert are what kept this from getting a 5 star rating. Once the band started playing songs the show was outstanding. Great musicians and Ryan was in excellent voice.
Amazing watching Ryan & the Cardinals as always..he always leaves me floored.
Yes, it was a different kind of show, but I loved it. He rocked the theater. Maybe some folks wanted to see an acoustic greatest hits show, but we a rockin 3 hour show. It was great!
One of the best Singer Songwriters in the business - He doesnt need to prove to us he can play Guitar - Jams were too long - would have rather heard more than 9 songs over a 3 hour set
Just as others have said, the first song was like 35 minutes long and so was the last one (at least I think it was the last song because we left about 25 minutes into it). And the long instrumental jams wouldn’t have been that bad if maybe they added a couple more chords to the 2 chord jams. Sounded like me and my buddies jamming out after smoking a blunt. The vocal harmonies were nice when they happened which was rare. It seemed like almost an intentional insult to the fans to make them sit in this nice theatre and listen to 90% 2 chord instrumentals and 10% vocals. If I played guitar in the band, I would have quit after the first show.
Good band eclectic set great sound.I Recommend them
Disappointed with the set list. I’ve been waiting for Ryan Adams to come to a venue close by for about 15 years and purchased tickets before I knew what songs would be played. Disappointed that no songs from Prisoner, Ashes & Fire, Gold, or his self-titled album were played. The first song Peaceful Valley was 20 minutes long, felt like something closer to a Phish concert, and the crowd was never really into the show. Really disappointed with the show given how expensive the tickets were.
Fantastic show. Played for over 2.5 hrs. Venue is great, sound was great. Band was in top form.
Disappointment, I think they played about 6 or 7 Ryan Adams and the Cardinals songs in a span of 3 hours?! Most of the concert was just jamming and improv. Made for a boring concert and I’ve seen Ryan Adams many times and have not had an experience like this. Always will be a fan Ryan though, brilliant musician and song writer.
