  • RICKY SKAGGS & KENTUCKY THUNDER

by MaggieandRoger on 1/10/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

The Birchmere offered an up close and personal experience for us to view an already amazing band. Ricky Scaggs & Kentucky Thunder are Blue Grass Royalty in my book. After the concert the band came out and signed autographs and visited with the audience. It was a wonderful evening for us. Each band member are just soaked with talent and musical ability. They each could have captivated an audience by themselves. But, all together? Well it was a fantastic performance and an evening I will never forget.

  • Rick Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder Great As Usual!

Great show! Get there early to eat before and not during the show.

  • Scaggs / Kentucky Thunder worth seeing

by Anonymous on 1/9/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

Am grateful that Ricky Scaggs is focued on bluegrass and its roots. The band sounds good, both instrumental and vocal. The show at the Birchmere is about 90 minutes, one long set plus one encore. Only change I would have liked is a bit less rambling (marginally interesting stories, self-deprication, and gospel) from Ricky, and a couple more songs. Also, one or two of the songs seemed heartful and edgy, but mostly this is a very melodic act.

Outstanding as always! We never miss the show and would recommend it to anyone who likes really good music; both instrumental and singing - the harmony can't be beat!

Great musicians, wonderful arrangements, and Christmas songs - you can't get any better than that. The quality of the music was great and they were fun to listen to.

  • Ricky Skaggs Family Christmas was a blessing!

    by Me1963 on 12/14/09Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The performance was an excellent display of family (and band and symphony) talent!!! It was not all about Ricky himself - he presented the rest of the family in a very enjoyable show. Thanks for bringing everyone to Columbus!

  • skaggs is genuinely refreshing

    by mimi777999 on 12/14/09Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I am a classical music fan and do not enjoy contemporary Christian music. This family has the true family spirit of Christmas, not to mention that they are hugely talented. You are amazed at how each participant from the family must have been trained since age four to play and sing music. I recommend it for anyone who wants to renew their faith in family and authentic humankind...no phoney hollywood type baloney which even some of the Nashville country singers are falling prey. Really enjoyed it.

We really enjoyed ourselfs. They are such genuine people. We felt as though we were included in their Christmas and it made us feel like family.....

Such camaraderie among family members! Every song was the best song. Great variety. Will make this an annual event if we can.

I have seen Ricky and Kentucky Thunder, and The Whites before and have always been amazed at their talents. The vocal harmonies by the White sisters were unbelievable and the musicians were great as usual. My only complaint would be the sound. It seems as if maybe more time should have been spent getting the mix and volume levels better. Some microphones were way too loud, while others were way too low. Other than that minor detail it was awesome, but I didnt have any doubts that it would be.These have always seemed like people that truly love what they do, and always go out of their way to give you what you came for.

  • Ricky Skaggs and the Whites

    by srine1 on 12/12/09Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

This was an excellent concert. I am not a Bluegrass fan and had bought the tickets as a present for my husband. However, the music was great, the atmosphere was relaxed and it was like spending an evening with friends.

  • What a talented family

Great show, a different twist to Christmas music. Very warm and personable. The harmony was excellent. The palace is a great place for a music event

Good show. Very enjoyable. Went to see Ricky play the mandolin, however, and he only played minimally. That was disappointing but the Whites were great.

  • A Night of Christmas Music by Three Generations

by WilEcoyote on 12/12/09Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Ricky Skaggs brought his family to Columbus for an evening of Christmas music. It was filled with musical instruments, played to perfection, and vocals by young and old members of his family. Their entertainment was genuine, and from the heart. It was so nice to see three generations all perform with skill of musical instruments, along with beautiful harmony of voices, in a truly Christian fashion.

  • Show sets great tone for our Christmas Season

by LESkipworthy on 12/12/09Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

We had never seen Ricky or really followed his music, but are country music fans. We were excited to see and hear him based on his reputation. We had a great time. The Skaggs and Whites are incredibly talented and great entertainers. I would recommend this show to anyone who loves music.

  • Skaggs Family Christmas

    by Sparkle2 on 12/12/09Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best Christmas show by far my husband & I have been too. When they say "family show" they mean family show. The whole Skaggs family was involved. We couldn't believe how talented the whole family is. From Grandpa Buck down to the grandkids! My husband won backstage passes from 95.5 when we got there so we did get to meet them........You couldn't ask for nicer people!! Everyone was so friendly and seemed grateful that we came. What really touched us was when we were backstage another backstage winners daughter had been in a bad car wreck. Sharon (Ricky's wife) prayed with the family and anyone could join in. We would highly recommend if you get a chance to see this Christmas show go and take the whole family!!

  • Skaggs worth the price?

by pmjm on 10/9/09Paramount Arts Center - AshlandRating: 5 out of 5

Definitely! First time seeing Ricky. Been to many other concerts of all venues this one at Paramount Arts Center was more of a personal show. With limited seating of around 1400 everybody has a good seat. He was very entertaining not only with his music but also with the history of country/bluegrass. About two hours long, only complaint was that it leaves you wanting more.
