  • Ricky Skaggs (oh and a little Bruce thrown it)

by Nyati on 10/10/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

This was more like a Ricky Skaggs bluegrass concert with one Bruce Hornsby song thrown in as a bone. (The Way it Is). My wife and I were hoping to hear some Bruce Hornsby songs that we had heard before. He has written songs for Don Henley, Huey Lewis, and albums with the Range and we were disappointed that we didn't hear ANY of them. But.....the concert was outstanding. All 8 musicians were very talented and on their game. It was very entertaining, and the banjo, mandolin, guitar, piano, and standup bass was all good.

  • Bluegrass Rules!!!

by FrannieT on 10/9/13Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Ricky Skaggs is quite simple the best Bluegrass musician that has ever been. Bill Monroe may have invented it ... but Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder have taken Bluegrass to a whole new level. If you only see one Bluegrass show in your lifetime it has to be Ricky Skaggs. The musicianship is unparalleled and they never disappoint. This is high octane Bluegrass people!

Excellent concert. Ricky, Bruce, and the entire band are amazing musicians. Never really cared for bluegrass music but there guys are great and put on a good show.

  • A must see!

    by 4544 on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

This show is a must see for lovers of bluegrass, jazz, and everything in between! The Skaggs/Hornsby combo is superb!

  • by Anonymous on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Ricky Skaggs' bluegrass with Bruce Hornsby (not much Hornsby music with Ricky Skaggs), but maybe that was to be expected. Both are fabulous musicians who connect with their audience well.

  • Great Blending of Talents

    by cstanley1 on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Great Concert! It was clear that Ricky & Bruce really enjoyed playing together. The rest of the band members can really pick it also. Really diverse sets that mixed well along with the riffs. Much better than the weak event in Atlanta in August with Bruce. Hate to complain but warm-up group was lame, it took 45 minutes to move equipment between the 2 acts, and there was a curfew - leaving Bruce to be only playing for an hour. I know the concert was delayed due to weather but it was very frustrating.

  • Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby-too much bluegrass

    by Opryfan1952 on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 2 out of 5

I like Bluegrass and while I expect Ricky Skaggs to play a great deal of bluegrass, having Bruce Hornsby with him I expected more of a blend of music styles. Instead they even "bluegrassed" Bruces song. Also, each song went overboard on the individual instrumentals with a mandolin, banjo, guitar, fiddle lead everytime taking up precious time that could be used to play more variety rather than same ole, same ole on each song. I won't be back to one of these shows and we go to the Grand Ole Opry and other country concerts several times a year. (Steve Wariner's birthday concert was great).

  • Skaggs and Hornsby....WOW!

    by CCT71 on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Bluegrass does not get any better. Another outstanding concert. The musicians behind the headliners were fabulous. What talents. It felt like sitting in on a jam session with them all "doing their thing". Ricky and Bruce made sure that the audience felt like part of their families. Go if you can. I would return for an encore.

  • Amazing!

by colesmith on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

We could've listened to Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby along with Kentucky Thunder all night long. They not only are extremely talented but also played beautifully together while obviously enjoying it as much as the audience did. Just a wonderful night!

  • Ricky Scaggs and Bruce Hornsby at the Ryman

    by Biged1006 on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Ryman auditorium is a great venue for music. Scaggs and Hornsby are two or the best musicians of this generation. The band Kentucky Thunder is tight, made of of great musicians. This was one of my favorite concerts.

  • Bruce & Ricky at the Ryman 10/05/13

    by Terry16 on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

10 out of 10 for a person who is luke warm on Bluegrass,,, this was amazing... the Kentucky Thunder guys are as talented a bunch as I have ever seen... of course the highlight was Bruce signing his money maker, The Way It Is... brought down the place with a rousing ovation 3 songs in... Mr. Ricky Skaggs is so talented that this space is not near big enough to comment on except to say he is one hell of an entertainer...... great evening in Downtown Nashville.

It was a Great show. I always wanted to see another show at the Ryman, and I was not disapointed. Ricky and Bruce were awesome!. The sound was suberb. Had good seats. I was there in 1949 when I was 7 years old, and saw Hank Williams. I remember we stood outside in line for 4 hours to get in the second show. I recommend using the valet parking at the Ryman. Great service! Came out of the show and our car was waiting for us.

  • Tremendous collaboration!

by edugal on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I wasn't sure how a concert with both Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs would be, given how different their respective styles are. It was terrific! Hornsby's piano accompaniment to Skaggs' bluegrass songs was fabulous, and their two styles melded together beautifully. They also seem to really enjoy playing with each other.

  • Much different than we were expecting

    by HornsbyFan43080 on 10/8/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 2 out of 5

I am a big Bruce Hornsby fan and jumped at the chance to buy tickets when he was coming to Nashville. Not what we were expecting. Now that he is playing with Ricky Skaggs, it was all Blue Grass music. He played only one of his originals (The Way it is). Many Hornsby fans were disappointed to not hear any of his great songs. Nothing against Ricky Skaggs, but I am not a big Blue Grass fan and was expecting to hear a few of the Hornby classics.

  • Cluck ole hen

Truly magical 1st visit to the Ryman and hearing these guys was amazing.

  • Skaggs went beyond the call of duty

by Klarino on 10/7/13Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

What a truly remarkable evening. Ricky has the intuitiveness to gather the best of the best musicians around him. Bruce Hornsby was the real surprise for me. I never thought that a piano or keyboard would ever fit in with bluegrass. But Bruce made it happen. It was like the piano was always meant to be there. It was a solid bluegrass evening with a good balance of the traditional and some newer arrangements. Besides being a superb musician, Skaggs is a great showman and easily relates to his audience, which, by the way, he had in the palm of his hand. I don't think there were any disappointed fans. A true evening to cherish.

  • What a pleasure!

    by Nar8r on 10/7/13Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a fan of Bruce for many years and have enjoyed listening to Ricky as well. Together they presented an evening of truly inspired music. Kentucky Thunder has some of the finest musicians I have ever heard. Ricky is an amazing mandolin player and of course Bruce is probably the finest pianist in the business today. I would absolutely recommend this show to anyone who enjoys watching and hearing people playing in a way that shows their obvious love for what they're doing. Don't miss it if you're anywhere close to a show.

  • What a Show!!

by WishIwasOnstageToo on 10/7/13Taft Theatre - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I took our daughter and her boyfriend for her 17th birthday gift....what a show! She told us it was the best concert she's ever been to and the best day day of her year! The venue (Taft Theater) was fantastic, and both Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Horsby were tremendous. We had a chance to meet/greet them after the show. They were approachable and friendly, and the process to get through the line was organized and quick. I loved the way both Ricky and Bruce blended styles, and the quality of backup players was superb...sound was tight and well rehearsed, and song selection was great. Also loved some of the tribute songs to Bill Monroe.
