About

Talk about magic!

British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.

Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.

One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).

Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

  • Underwhelming- we expected more as Harry Potter fans

by Mom and daughter on 2/4/24Imagine Showroom at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 1 out of 5

We found it boring and not at all a “Vegas” style of show that we were expecting. More like an amateur production we would go to at home

  • Worth it!

by Ed on 2/1/24Imagine Showroom at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

Completely worth it! They’re hysterical. Also, don’t sit in the front row if you don’t want to be in the show or get wet.

  • Funny Show

by Illinilisa on 1/30/24Imagine Showroom at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

This is a cute show, it is slapstick Harry Potter. Some people in the audience were laughing the whole time. You have to pay close attention as there are so many jokes I know I missed a few and would catch more if I went a second time. It is a lot funnier for those with Harry Potter knowledge. Actors do a great job keeping it moving and entertaining for all ages. The theater in Las Vegas is small so seats in the back are as good as seats in the front.

  • Potted Potter fan.

By far the best show we saw while in Vegas. Fun for the whole family! Laughed throughout the whole show. Would be happy to see it again. For Potter Fans it's a must see!

  • Cheesy

by Peter Pattigrew on 1/23/24Imagine Showroom at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 1 out of 5

I was not a fan of the show, especially for the price. Just two guys with minimal props. It’s literally a Harry Potter themed clown show with no makeup

  • Very Silly

by For Harry Potter movie lovers not Harry Potter readers on 1/19/24Imagine Showroom at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 2 out of 5

It was ok. If it was $20 a ticket it would be good. For $50-$90 a ticket I expected more than 2 guys making corny jokes on a stage with props they brought from home. I also expected more of a theater type space not 3 rows of chairs.

  • Awesome fun for Harry Potter fans!

Excellent performances! Engaging, fun, witty and highly entertaining! Bravo!

  • Waste of time and money

by Rebecca on 1/17/24Imagine Showroom at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 1 out of 5

We had a few hours to kill in Vegas due to a delayed flight, so we decided to check out the afternoon showing. Was not impressed. Almost brought down the whole perception of the trip since that was the note we ended on. If I could get my money back, I would.

  • Great & Creative

This was a very creative show. Brought laughter and entertainment. I highly recommend it. Well done!

  • Priceless Potted Potter

by Kathleen K on 1/10/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Perfect venue, perfect staging and lighting, perfect performers. Laughed so much, I know I missed a few bits. This comes back around, I will not miss getting my tickets.

  • Just Fun

by YourNameHere on 1/10/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Best Lord of the Rings parody that I have ever seen!

  • Definitely intended for a young audience

by CBCB on 1/10/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 3 out of 5

While I thought this show was cute, I felt a bit misled. If you read the advertisement, it is not particularly clear that this show is geared towards children. Maybe we should have realized walking in, given that the average audience age is ~10. The show felt more about jokes from the two hosts, and less about an actual retelling of Harry Potter. For children, I would give this show five stars, but for adults, I think you can pass.

  • Best play ever

by Unhappy on 1/10/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I gave tickets to Potted Potter to my 12 year old grandson for Christmas. I wanted us to share an experience together and make a memory. Boy, did we ever! He said it was “the best play he had ever seen”. Right from the beginning Liam had everyone in the audience engaged. Throughout the play, there was a lot of audience participation. The quidditch game was a big hit for everyone. Liam and Paul were amazing! My grandson said he had not laughed like that in a long time. We both agreed that when Potted Potter comes back to the Bay Area, we will see it again! What a great memory for my grandson and I to share!

  • Funny but not worth the $

by Sherryc on 1/9/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 3 out of 5

My family enjoyed the show but it was not worth the $300 I spent on tickets for the four of us to see it. It was entertaining and well written/performed but the production value did not support the cost of the show.

  • Meh. Not worth the $

by SFFamily on 1/9/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 3 out of 5

Charming, cute, but just not worth the money. Tickets cost what full production Broadway shows used to be. Kids laughed quite a bit and the interactivity was fun, but the joke kind of ran out of gas by the end

  • It was ok….

by RJ on 1/9/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 2 out of 5

I thought it was geared for kids and not adults…… I chuckled in a couple of parts…. Really glad I didn’t buy the more expensive tickets - my friends that I talked into going with me (also adults) will probably never trust me for picking out a theater show. Loved the venue. My fist time to see theater there.

  • Not worth your time or money

by Gina on 1/9/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 2 out of 5

Very low production quality. Exactly 2 actors for the entire show - props that look like they're from party city. Much more slapstick comedy than anything creative or clever that you would think of a parody for Harry Potter. Unless you have young kids that are obsessed with Harry Potter, this will be a waste of your time.

  • Fun for the whole family

by Auntie K on 1/9/24Bluma Appel Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Potted Potter was great family entertainment. The performers were fantastic and managed to cover seven books in seventy minutes as advertised. The all-female cast was a nice surprise and my niece loved seeing women on stage. She also thought the Quidditch match was very well done!

  • Absolutely hilarious

by Amalthea on 1/7/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I took my entire family. We have an 8, 10, and 15 year old. Every single one of us was cracking up. Seriously, my teen and I were laughing so hard we were crying. Highly recommend.

  • Didn’t live up to the hype

by Theater Fan on 1/6/24Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 2 out of 5

I had high hopes for this performance and was very disappointed. I’ve seen shows with similar concepts, such as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare… Abridged which were hilarious. This show lacked the cleverness needed to pull off such an ambitious feat. Frankly, it seemed like the only reason it’s having as much success as it is, is because Harry Potter fans are looking for a way to continue to enjoy these beloved stories. Unfortunately, this is not it!
