Talk about magic!
British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.
Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.
One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).
Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.
Did not like it at all. Was not what I was expecting
We laughed from beginning to end while reliving the joy of the Harry Potter Books!
They were entertaining but for the price, we would expect more actors, more/ better props, etc. It was not worth the price of our tickets in my opinion.
Great performers, engaging and funny. Some skits were a tad long and repetitive. Otherwise great show. Fun thing to do for an evening.
There were a few funny parts but mostly the comedy was for elementary age children. NOT for every potter fan as the marketing described. Would've skipped it, if I'd known before.
The two actors did a nice job. It’s just not a very good story. It’s an extremely low budget production… nothing to see on the stage, costumes were jeans and a t shirt the whole time, and some cheap Silly props found in everyone’s closet. It’s nothing special but it was silly entertainment for the youngest in our group who was 12. The other 4 of us endured. Lol just keep your expectations reasonable.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but these guys are hilarious. I could not stop laughing the whole time. The show is interactive and fun and well worth the price of admission.
The title says it all - excellent fun! Well done lads!
Average show at best. We just expected more (funny, entertaining, etc). We do recommend the Paranormal Magic act in the same theater. He is very entertaining and about the same price.
My friends and I have talked about going for 2-3 years when we are in Vegas and finally decided to go this trip. What a huge disappointment. One friend likened it to two 7 year olds frenetically attempting to act out the books. It wasn’t funny and way overpriced. Our tickets to the Piano Man cost less and we enjoyed actually that show. If we hadn’t been sitting on the second row we would have left. We all agreed that we knew the show was awful in the first 10 minutes.
Was hilarious. At the beginning l was skeptical that l would find it entertaining, but it absolutely was.! My sister and l, both in our late sixties, are not necessarily huge Harry Potter fans, but we are familiar with both all of the books and the films. We found ourselves laughing out loud throughout and very much enjoying the show.
My son and grandson have seen all the movies and read all the books… So I thought this would be fun for them. I’ve only seen one movie and read notebooks… I enjoyed their show so much! The interaction with the audience was awesome! We all had a different favorite part of the show!
I took my muggle hubby to this show dreading having to explain to him what was going on. Boy was I wrong. Even people that have never read the books will enjoy this. So funny. Loved it!
Great show. Very funny take on some fabulous books. Very clever writers
Funny and fun. The two actors interacted well with the audience. Fast paced, mall intimate theatre.
Hilariously unique take on the seven Harry Potter books! Presented by two very talented performers who worked very well together and interacted with the audience throughout the entire show. Very entertaining!!
Really funny! Clever! Fun!! Great jokes! If you like Harry Potter you will love this!!
This was my absolute favorite show! I love the audience participation, the comedy, and the antics. Watch out for flying objects and be ready for Quidditch, Quidditch, Quidditch. Thank you for creating this amazing show. I was in tears from laughing so hard and it is such a fun way to get cliff notes on Harry Potter ;)
Wizards and muggles were entertained from start to finish! There were some surprises that kept the audience on the edge of their chair. If only it could have lasted longer; thw 7th book was two movies so an additional 10 minutes is needed to give the last book the time it deserves.
I have seen almost all of the shows in Las Vegas. Last week I saw Potted Potter. I would give this show a 3 on a scale of 10. There really wasn't much to the show. Children may like it - but I noticed the children in the audience were pretty quiet. I was expecting more.
