Talk about magic!
British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.
Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.
One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).
Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.
I really enjoyed the show! Both actors did a phenomenal job. Only wished we could have taken pics with them after the show.
Fun and imaginative. Not a typical Las Vegas show, but that was part of the charm for us. Seemed more authentic with just two guys doing the entire show from characters to 0rops to costumes. Fun night!
The show is great. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Interactive and so fun!!! Would go again in a heartbeat!!!
Lots of horsing around, but a bit light on the Harry Potter theme. So much time lost to pointless shenanigans and repetitive humor, with much less time devoted to the storylines than suggested by the adverts that got us interested in attending.
This show was so much better than I could have ever imagined! I have been a Harry Potter fan since the books were first released and I was crying laughing at this show! 10/10 would recommend! A must see for HP fans!
Highly recommend especially if you are a Harry Potter fan and want a good laugh! An enjoyable mix of scripted and improv comedy that everyone in the family will thoroughly enjoy!
Such an amazing time to watch these two improv actors parody the Harry Potter books. If you're a fan, then you'll love this show! A must-see for the whole family, especially if you love Quidditch!
loved the show hated the venue. I was in last the last row so I was not expecting a great seat. But this was just awful the space is not even slanted so literally in the last row all you see are the heads in front of you. The show was awesome, venue not so much. thumbs down on the madison art center.
As an avid Harry Potter fan, I loved it. My husband is not as big a fan of Harry Potter, but he loved this show! Great family friendly show for young kids and their parents. They encouraged audience participation which also made the show more fun and memorable. I saw this show several years ago and then again this week. It was just as good this time as it was the first time I saw this show. I highly recommend this show for a fun evening out!
They could have made some great inside jokes for Potter fans. But this was childish and just not funny. We left after 30 minutes … and that was giving it a good try.
Very funny. Need to pay attention to keep up, lots of innuendo and sarcasm. Not for kids. Combination of a scripted show and a improv act.
I got these tickets for my wife as an early anniversary present since she’s a huge Potter fan. I laughed so hard and she loved every minute of it. So thankful that we had the original actors and the Madison Arts Center was just wonderful!!!
We had an amazing time! Loved getting to see the original duo perform and were laughing the whole time!
Fantastic show! I've never seen my 12 year old grandson laugh so much. If you're a Harry Potter fan don't miss this. Two actors from England recite their own renditions of all 7 books, with props and attention getting humor. Highly recommend.
Possibly the best show I’ve been to. No one in our group stopped laughing the entire time. Highly recommend!
It has been a long time since I’ve laughed so hard at an event, but these two put on the best show! My daughter and I couldn’t stop laughing and the audience participation was fantastic. I’d go again and again if I could!
This lived up to the hype I heard about it! Everyone told me I would laugh but I wasn't ready for how genuinely funny this performance is! It is great time for every audience member and the experience is as fun as you allow it to be.
Amazingly funny. I took my daughter for her birthday. She is a huge Potter fan. She laughed so hard so was crying.
An amazing performance. We laughed the entire time and for hours afterwards. This performance was beyond incredible, it's unforgettable.
These two were hilarious. They were great at improvising when a mix didn’t work and included the audience more than I expected. I would definitely pay to see these guys again!
