Talk about magic!
British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.
Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.
One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).
Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

Jokes for everyone in the crowd. No bad seats in the house. Intimate setting.
We did not expect what we got, but the show was entertaining. The two guys worked hard and gave a good performance. Awe were leary at first and didd not know what to expect but once it got started we enjoyed the comedy and the energy.
The venue was small enough that there wasnt a bad seat in the house. The two actors had lots of energy and kept the same level throughout. It was a geniuly great family show and had lots of slapstick comedy but was a bit on the immature side especially if you didnt have children there. Audience involvement was a plus. If all shows are sold out or you if you have young children then this is a solid fallback option.
It would have been nice for a 30minutes play. It was ok. But not worthy the price for what they delivered.
It was like watching children put on a backyard play. Save you money.
With the title “Potted” Potter I didn’t realize that it would be a kids event, some of the show was pretty funny but I was disappointed that it was so for-kids
Great show! Funny, well performed, family friendly (any "adult humor" is subtle enough to not be picked up by the younger ones), and really fun! It is performed in a small theater, so every seat is great. The front row might have a little more involvement like being spoken to directly by the performers. Be ready for a little bit of full-audience participation - nothing difficult or embarrassing, just fun! You don't have to be a huge HP fan to enjoy this show, but a general idea of the story and main characters is probably helpful.
They really did a nice job with summing it up and cracking jokes. It was a lot of fun.
The guys did an amazing job - our family really enjoyed it and would see it again. Great, intimate venue as well!
This show was very expensive for the quality of the show. I wouldn’t spend more than $30 on a ticket for a show like this.
My daughter and niece love HP and have watched every movie, read every book, and been to every HP event in the area. I, on the other hand, know nothing about HP other than there is a train, a castle, and lots and lots of pages in the books. The three of us went to see Potted Potter together, and we all absolutely loved it! It was so well done. I would recommend this show for anyone and everyone!
This was a great show, and I would easily see it again. In Las Vegas in 2022, the venue was very small with maybe 200 seats and 100 patrons. The script is clever and funny. The show moves along quickly and the audience was laughing often. The theme is goofy and lighthearted, using a straight man and goofy man theme. Well done and a fantastic value. My only regret is that there was no opportunity to meet the performers after the show.
Wasnt sure what to expect, but wasnt too impressed with the show considering the price. Was more of a simple silly comedic recap of the HP books, and the performance seemed more geared towards the kids, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but wasn't really for me (30-something year old HP fan). The 2 performers were decent but the content seemed lacking.
Absolutely, hysterical. Sad the meet & greet was canceled but the show was picture perfect, interactive & so much fun!
It was a small, intimate theater. The guys were hilarious! The super summarized Harry Potter books were funny. There were a lot of outside references to popular stories like Narnia, Frozen, Lord of the Rings, etc. The way they interlaced these with the story of Harry Potter made us laugh until there were tears. Thoroughly enjoyed their performance.
Very entertaining. Very talented. Really enjoyed the show. Love how the theater was small. You could see the stage and performers very clearly even from the bronze section
It was fast-paced and had lots of laughing moments, but we thought it would be more speedy storytelling than barely skimming the surface of the Potter-verse.
The entire show was extremely fun. It was fun to watch the ad-libs when the unexpected happened. It was a joy to be in the audience
I attended Potted Potter on Saturday June 4th. It was an overall enjoyable experience. Both performers were entertaining and humorous. I am a little unsure who the target audience was for this show. In several ways the show was childish (not a bad thing) and there were children present in the audience. That being said, there was a lot of adult humor in the show. A few of the adult bits were in fact the punchline of a joke clearly intended for a young audience. I am 30 years old, slightly younger then what I believe the average age for a fan who grew up reading/watching Harry Potter. Perhaps the show could benefit from revising the core target audience to 24-36 year old's. Will still recommend to both my older sister and my niece!
