About

PJ Morton is a soul singer, songwriter, performer and producer based in New Orleans. He is a 5x GRAMMY-winner and 20x GRAMMY nominee who has earned numerous nominations for BET, Soul Train and NAACP Image Awards, in addition to selling out countless shows at historic venues like the Apollo Theater, Kennedy Center and others around the world. On top of running his own record label (Morton Records) and serving as Maroon 5's full-time keyboardist for the past 12+ years, he has collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Jon Batiste, Nas, Lil Wayne, JoJo, Yebba, Jill Scott and many others.

He will also release an album entirely written, recorded and produced during a 30-day trip across Africa, and publish a new book titled Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. Arriving November 12th via Worthy Publishing, an imprint of Hachette Book Group, the memoir sees him recounting and reflecting upon a trailblazing path that continues to defy expectations and straddle the tensions of music and faith, race and culture, expression and identity.

  • Homophobic PJ Morton Fans

by Mo Bey on 11/12/19The Belasco Theater - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

We came to the show to see Asiahn, we were unfamiliar with PJ Morton and his music. Asiahn, brought my date on stage (we are a same-sex lesbian couple) and did a sultry number. Most of the crowd who was clearly there to see PJ morton, seemed very uncomfortable with this. PJ Morton fans should note that Asiahn is a queer-identifying LESBIAN artist and therefore some of the fans in the audience may very well be also queer identifying. PJ has added Asiahn to the show for a reason and clearly shows support for her and her LGBT community. PJ Morton fans need to leave their homophobia at home. There have been other instances of Asiahn fans being harassed by PJ Morton fans and this is unacceptable. Asiahn gave an EXCELLENT performance, we did not stick around for PJ's set.

  • I love PJ, but...

    by R. M. on 11/12/19The Belasco Theater - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

I want to start by saying that I give PJ Morton 5 stars for his performance. He is truly a great artist. However, I’m unhappy about 2 things. First, the event started late, which really sucked. Second, my biggest complaint is with the two opening artists. I don’t know if PJ picks them, or if they’re recommended, but their style of music does not match his. The first artist used too much profanity and I didn’t know what the heck he was saying. I really wish a Christian rapper could have opened for him instead. Then, the woman named Asiahn I believe was totally inappropriate. Her lyrics had too much profanity as well, and she was unnecessarily pushing her sexuality. She invited a woman on stage to “serenade” and suddenly I felt like I was at some kind of strip club or burlesque show. That was totally uncalled for and inappropriate. Again, these artists music didn’t match PJ’s and they threw the entire vibe off. I hope they aren’t apart of his future concerts.

  • Ran my soul to the ground!

by roru116 on 11/11/19The Belasco Theater - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This weekend's show with PJ Morton was one to remember. The music, the vibe, the soul, the musicianship, the fans, and Jojo (yes Jojo, don't even get me started wit' this one). Everything about it was amazing and my heart was filled with so much joy and they literally ran my soul to the ground with their performance.

  • Great concert

by Kenny on 11/11/19The Belasco Theater - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Only thing that was bad about the concert was there were no seats

  • Opening Acts

by Johnny Slick on 11/11/19The Belasco Theater - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

Ive seen PJ Morton rwice each time the opening acts didnt fit. The girl who performed put us to sleep and i like her music. He has to get an opening act that matches his vibe. Once he gets the opening act right there will be no better show

  • Got two for one

by Crney on 10/29/19Piedmont Hall (formerly White Oak Event Space) - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

I was glad to visit Piedmont Hall for the first time and see PJ Morton. I had a feeling that I would see the Hamilton’s and I wasn’t wrong! They can sure enough sing and that they did. Wish they could’ve done more songs since we had to wait. That being said and despite the misfortune of part of PJs band being late due to their flight, the event was unorganized. It was supposed to start at 9 but around 915 a comedian came up and did a short set. He was funny but there was no build up. An emcee would’ve helped. We waited a few minutes and then they introduced the hamiltones. Again no energy. I think the main issue was the volume. The dj was WAAAY TOO LOUD! I’ve been to plenty of shows indoors and out and the dj was great but this one was so loud that it was irritating. PJ finally came up and apologized but started a great show. My only issue again was the volume. You could hear noise/feedback rolling and growing because of the volume. I couldn’t even tell the key of some songs because it was so loud but when I went back to the video it sounded better. Concerts can be great and not be deafening.

  • Best Show Ever!

  • This concert could’ve been better if the sound quality was f

by A Human on 8/4/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This concert could’ve been better if the sound quality was fixed quicker. During Dwele’s performance the sound quality was definitely lackluster. He did however show his artistry as a true performer, because he chose to walk around so that way everyone still enjoyed an experience with him and got a show. PJ Morton the sound quality all of a sudden got better during his set. Him and his team gave an amazing performance, made me want to stay until they kicked us out. Overall a great performance from both artist!! I didn’t realize at this location that people who own or rent boats can just literally cruise up and get a free show, lucky lol!

  • Excellent show!!

by SueSue on 7/31/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concert's I have attended. Dwele was great and PJ Morton was phenomenal!!

  • PJ MORTON WAS AWESOME!!!

by Tlynnpowell on 7/29/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

PJ MORTON'S performance was awesome. Energy filled and inspirational. When he hit the stage I was out of my seat the entire time. My only complaint is that it was after 10p when PJ finally made it to the stage. Being at an outside venue that closes promptly at 11p, I felt a little cheated. Especially when the opening acts performed what seemed like an absorbent amount of time. I can't wait til PJ comes back to Detroit. I am sooo there!

  • Best show ever

  • The sound was not good.

by Fidge on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

The sound clarity has not been good for the last couple of concerts. They should do a sound check around the park. Outside of that love the atmosphere.

  • Incredible talent

by Krisi on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

PJ Morton is by far one of the most talented artist. His live shows are a must! Detroit audiences are TOUGH! But he had the entire place on their feet within minutes!!!

  • Wonderful concert!

by Vickie on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Both Dwele and PJ Morton put on a show! They performed new and popular songs as well as engaged the audience. It was a great concert and I will definitely support these artists again in the future!

  • Amazing

by Afia on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

PJ Morton was absolutely amazing. I didn’t realize just how talented he was until seeing him live. The album doesn’t do him justice.
