About

PJ Morton is a soul singer, songwriter, performer and producer based in New Orleans. He is a 5x GRAMMY-winner and 20x GRAMMY nominee who has earned numerous nominations for BET, Soul Train and NAACP Image Awards, in addition to selling out countless shows at historic venues like the Apollo Theater, Kennedy Center and others around the world. On top of running his own record label (Morton Records) and serving as Maroon 5's full-time keyboardist for the past 12+ years, he has collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Jon Batiste, Nas, Lil Wayne, JoJo, Yebba, Jill Scott and many others.

In 2024, PJ Morton will become the first Black composer to ever write an original song for a Disney attraction - Tiana's Bayou Adventure, coming soon to Disneyland and Disney World. He will also release an album entirely written, recorded and produced during a 30-day trip across Africa, and publish a new book titled Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. Arriving November 12th via Worthy Publishing, an imprint of Hachette Book Group, the memoir sees him recounting and reflecting upon a trailblazing path that continues to defy expectations and straddle the tensions of music and faith, race and culture, expression and identity.

  • Good

PJ Morton was Amazing as expected. But I didn’t like how Dwele was on stage for so long. I feel like he cut into PJ’s time and that’s whom we all wanted to see!!!! They should have let Dwele come on stage at 7:30 if they were going to give him that much time. We didn’t leave until after 11 and there were only 2 artists. Smh

  • Wonderful evening

    by S. C. on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

PJ Morton was amazing, I enjoyed every moment of his performance. I just wish he'd been on stage longer. I've never been to a show where the opening acts had just as much time or longer than the headliner, VERY DISAPPOINTING. I did not enjoy Dwele AT ALL. Couldn't understand what he was saying, his mic was very muffled.. just wanted him to get off stage so I could see who we came to see. Very long wait time for food/ snacks also. Still love this venue, all seats are good seats. Overall enjoyed the evening!

This was my first time seeing P.J. live. I was absolutely blown away by his showmanship. Very talented and truly a great artist. I can’t wait to see him again.

  • The best night ever

by K. on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

My experience front the parking lot attendants to the entrance to the seating to the actual show itself was nothing short of amazing! I am appreciative of the great and positive attitudes I received from every employee of the Aretha! It really helped with the experience.

  • Opening Act Up Far Too Long

by History Maker on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Overall the event was very nice however, the opening act (Dwelle) was up far too long. As a matter of fact, it felt like his show went on FOREVER. By the time he left the stage and the main act came on stage; the one in whom we actually originally paid to see (PJ Morton), he was forced to rush his show along due to their not being enough time left (“I’m trying to move things along because I was told that I have to be done by 11pm”). So to be clear, I’m not speaking negatively against Dwelle, but I do encourage the timing of the acts to be considered when patrons are paying money to receive a fulfilling and timely show from the headliner. Thanks for the platform to share.

  • Awesome Show!

by Juwcee328 on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The entire show was great, but PJ was late. Yet, he got on the stage and killed it!

  • Fair

by From back in the day on 7/27/19The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The first half of the show with smooth jazz was very relaxing. The local person and PJ Morton. Sounds was perfect. DWELE show cause frustration because I couldn't hear him sing. Sounds check team had to much Bass his music drowned him .

  • Great concert - but seating was needed

    by E. P. on 7/9/19L'Astral - MontréalRating: 4 out of 5

I was very anxious to see this concert, and was glad to see that there only going to be a limited number of tickets sold for it. However, when I arrived, there were close to 400 people attending. The front stage area was packed, and there was limited seating in the balcony area. Maybe next time, some seating - with a higher ticket price - could be offered.

  • Great Show, Great Vibe

by Expat Counselor on 7/7/19L'Astral - MontréalRating: 5 out of 5

I'm at the age where general admission shows are not my thing, but the venue was intimate and perfect for PJ's interaction with the crowd and the music. It was really good, and I was already a fan. But he and his band just killed it and the audience in Montreal was definitely great.

  • Go See PJ Morton!

by Hiplei on 5/23/18Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

It was raining all night and I almost didn't come but I am so glad I did. PJ Morton was excellent! His vocals are amazing live (which I assumed because Gumbo Unplugged) and I enjoyed watching him sing while playing the piano. I love the small tribute he did to Stevie Wonder, and I especially loved the black baptist church music sound he would break into throughout his performance. His stage energy reminded me of male rhythm and blues artists in the 1970s. I enjoyed myself and wished my mother was there to experience his magic.

  • P.J. Morton was awesome!

by Natmac on 5/17/18The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

I had the best time ever!! From the opening act, Brik.liam to the final encore of P.J. the room was filled with positivity and love! If this tour comes to your city, you’d be doing yourself a disservice by not showing up. The artistry and energy was everything!!
