Wonderful performance. Also loved the Penn/Teller piece, esc, and the kite flying short video.

Pilobolus is incredibly creative and original. I love the collaboration efforts they performed. Thoroughly interesting and entertaining. One ding on the venus - for 2 of the numbers, the music was turned up excessively loud.

  • Take a friend to see them

by DaymonFoss2 on 6/23/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Penn and Teller collaborated with the Pilobolus dancers on one of the works. The combination of magic and physical ability is something you have to see to appreciate. The films that filled the spaces between works were captivating and appropriate. I took a person who was not interested in dance. He was blown away by the performance. Pilobolus has always been great. This year they have reached new heights.

Amazing as always. I liked that they mixed the new with old pieces. I always love to see their original work. Very satisfying. It was also a pleasure to talk with the dancers afterwards.

  • Pilobulus...awesome!!!!!

I have gone to see Pilobulus just about every time they come. Every year is better than the year before. Their creativity to go beyond dancing and collaborating with others provides an incredible element of surprise.

  • extraordinary

I came away with a full understanding of the essence of life expressed through the human body and mind. The absolute physical control of non physical thoughts communicated through visual emotion provided by physical bodies moving in time provided an observable celebration of life to which religions aspire.

  • Pilobolus never disappoints!!!!

Pilobolus never disappoints with their performances. I loved every piece - the older, traditional pieces to the new premiers. The video clips were a nice addition during the transitions of pieces. Highly recommend this for everyone. I also brought a friend that had never seen Pilobolus before and she was thoroughly pleased.

This was Pilobolus at it's best....... a wonderful performance with engaging videos. If you have never experience Pilobolus don't miss the performance tonight! I don't want to give any of the surprises away........ just go! Only issue was for just one dance the music was too loud...... otherwise a perfect show.

  • Pilobolus is an acquired taste

by bookofboring on 2/28/13Pepperdine University - MalibuRating: 3 out of 5

If you love dance in general; and experimentation in particular, then this is the performance for you. For the most part, I love what Pilobolus tries to do, and their overall mission statement. Some shows are better than others and meet different audience criteria. The Pepperdine Show was perhaps a little lacking in variety... the mood, music, and costumes were in the "grey" area, although expertly performed and innovative in stage production. I could do without the pre-perforamance warm up; it was a little artsy and self-serving. I thought the choregraphy was exciting, challenging, and interesting. The music was nicely aligned with the choregraphy. The dancers were all attractive, athletic, and expressive. Not everyone would care for this troupe, so I can't give it 5 stars. But I will go again; my husband, not so much.

  • Pilobolus----2nd time inn a 25 year following

    by 1SDF on 2/28/13Pepperdine University - MalibuRating: 4 out of 5

An amazing set of performances---as always. They never disappoint. The opening number, Azimuth, was mesmerizing and lyrical. Loved it the best---although the one with the "dog girl" shadow puppet was pretty damned clever. The seat location was amazing. You could actually see the dancers facial expressions. But, the side-by-side spacing of the seats and the space between the rows of seats was really, really tight---almost uncomfortably so. I felt like a "sardine" in a can, not really able to relax at the end of a busy work day and put my arms up on the arm rests because in so doing I was poking the sides of the patrons sitting on either side of me. So, despite the amazing choreography and the ease of parking, I don't know if I'd return to this venue for another performance.

It's actually difficult to find words powerful enough to describe this experience. it was mesmerizing. It left me drained and speechless. Everyone should experience this amazing group at least once in their lives.

  • Pilobolus was a bust!

Very disappointing. Left with my friend shortly after the intermission. For the most part, it was boring.

  • Strange!!!

by thebluemonkey on 3/22/12Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - GainesvilleRating: 2 out of 5

When strange and beautiful are combined with a message, the results are unforgettable. With pilobulus, you only get strange. I wish I had not wasted my money. Other people were walking out of the theater as well.

  • Hard to spell - AMAZING to watch

by Da5idHD on 3/21/12Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - GainesvilleRating: 5 out of 5

PILOBOLUS was a very entertaining performance. They run the full spectrum of fun, pop performance to beautiful and elegant poetry in motion. I'll make sure to see them next time they are in town!

  • Pilobolus-almost boring!

    by redlola1 on 3/18/12Pilobolus - GainesvilleRating: 2 out of 5

The performance was nothing more than an advanced yoga class.

  • Pilobolus is always innovative

by CallMeAl on 7/7/11DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a fan of Pilobolus since the late 70's, so it was nice to see a couple of the older pieces along with 2 brand new pieces. Pilobolus keeps trying new things and that is one reason why I like them so much. They now dance with robots made by MIT PhD students! I always look forward to seeing the newer company members doing the pieces of the past and seeing how they add to the company.
