  • Amazing

by idontcarewhatnickname on 6/28/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Pilobolus was amazing! They are always creative, funny, poignant, and incredibly talented. Could have done without the Penn and Teller piece, and without the blinding lights flashed at the audience in the last piece, but otherwise fabulous.

  • Pilobolus continues to amaze me!!!

by KidBuff on 6/25/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Even though I have seen them before, their creativity and perspectives stay fresh and exciting. I am "wowed" each time that I see them. Their pieces are part dance, strength, puzzle, illusion, comic, and sensual. My wife is still talking about it!

  • Too much talking for a kids matinee

by Onlybuddy on 6/25/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

Exactly that. I don't know if I missed that it was supposed to be more educational in nature but even my attention span was lost as an adult. I honestly couldn't believe I paid to see a show and mostly ended up watching someone talk.

Great show! Enjoyed it very much. Amazing how the human body can move like that! Very creative. Music and videos made it all interesting.

  • great for kids

the sat matinee was a great show for kids. Fun demonstration of how rules are good for the mind and creativity. As always the forms this group comes up with are amazing as is the athleticism.

  • Not great for my 3 year old

by durhamhp on 6/24/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

I bought tickets for the "show" for my husband and I and our 3 year old son. My husband and I had seen Pilobolus before, for the main show and really enjoyed it. I didn't think the children's performance was great however. First of all, there wasn't much in the way of actual performance. The group did do a few short pieces, but most of the show was Shawn up on the stage talking about "the rules" of creating dance pieces. While I appreciate they were trying to explain things for children, I would think most kids would tune out when they start to hear grown-ups talking about "rules." My 3 year old has been to performances before (dance, sing, plays) and he has always been mesmerized by the actual performance. Throughout this show, he kept asking me when it was going to start. All in all, a bit of a disappointment. Got to keep children entertained and, In my opinion, you're not going to do by talking to the audience.

  • Pilobolus is unbelievable, so cool, so entertaing

by Durhamalfan on 6/24/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I am not quite sure I am a member of the same species as the pilobolus dancers. They do things that I cannot even imagine doing, much less being able to do. Lovely artistry, unique imagination, grace, and unbelievable flexibility and strength. And it made me smile.

  • My sons didn't think they'd like it...

by asqfam on 6/24/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

My sons didn't think they would like the Pilobolus Children's Matinee at DPAC because they got stuck on "dance concert," but they absolutely loved it. They were both laughing so hard that they were gasping for breath! When we left, they both said, "You were right, Mom, it was amazing." Music to a mother's ears...

by KidsLOVEPilobolus on 6/24/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Enthusiastic! Joyful! Interactive! It was a perfect kids show that interacted and included the audience. You could tell that they were glad to share their love of art and dance and life with kids and their families!

  • Pilobolus never disappoints

by Pinetree71 on 6/24/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

The performance was fabulous as usual. The only recommendation I would have is to shorten the videos between so that they are only as long as necessary to prepare the stage for the next production.

  • Amazing

by CHchick on 6/24/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Pilobolus was unbelieveable- I have never seen a show like this. Momix comes close but this was more inventive, more intense and more amazing. I can't recommend it enough!

Very exciting show. The dancers do unbelievable things and the choreography is amazing.

  • Pilobolus matinee was for CHILDREN

by DisappointedAdult on 6/24/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

If you were below the age of 11, this was probably a great event. However, I purchased tickets for what was advertised and ticketed by Ticketmaster as "ADF Present Pilobolus Dance Theater," expecting a "regular" Pilobolus show. Imagine the surprise of my two friends and myself when we walked into DPAC and encountered a CHILDREN'S matinee, and programming. Seriously disappointed in both the DPAC and Ticketmaster failure to clearly identify this as an event and programming that was for children. What a waste of time and money.

  • Pilobolus was Stunning

by Jay192 on 6/23/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Pilobolus on Friday as the first modern dance performance I had ever seen in my 63 years. Overall I was stunned, as in not able to talk after the performance is over, and that is very unusual. The athleticism of the dancers was amazing, the creativity of the choreography was astounding, and the variety among the indivual dances and the videos was exceptional. Not only would I recommend this performance to anybody who would hold still long enough, I will see Pilobolus at every possible opportunity in the future.

  • If I wanted the circus, I would have gone to that.

by Zeezeei on 6/23/13DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

Except for the first piece, created years ago, the program was coarse, brutal, gimmicky, and deafeningly loud. Although they are amazing gymnasts, I felt cheated of the pleasure of last year's program.
