  • I drove 2 hours for this?

    by papillon6 on 5/7/10Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 2 out of 5

Pilobolus has made a name for themselves by appearing on Conan O'Brian show. Their youtube performances are all behind a screen for shadow dancing are sensational. Although I understand that the troup has talent in many other areas, I was very disappointed to see only one and VERY short sketch behind the screen. I do not believe that I would attend another performance.

  • Hard to follow

    by 1frustrated on 5/7/10Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 1 out of 5

I found the performance very difficult to follow and spent most of the time confused about why they were doing this or moving that way. I spent the entire time trying to analyze the meaning of each dance, and what was the underlying message. I feel if they would have offered more information in the program about each of the dances, I could have interpreted why they moved and reacted the way they did. I sat feeling like I must be the only one who is totally confused and doesn't get it, but after the performance, many around me expressed the same reaction.

OMG! The strength, the talent, the focus, amazing performance. I wanted to see more, but understand why, the level of exertion must be tremendously draining. I would see it again in a heartbeat!

  • Pilobolus: A wonderful experience

by spcolumbus on 5/7/10Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

An extremely creative & unique troupe that offers such a variety of entertainment from just 7 dancers. Their use of costumes, lighting & props showed remarkable creativity! It's a performance that you have to see to appreciate....we agreed that it's very difficult to describe in terms that someone could appreciate without actually seeing the show. Next time the group returns to Columbus, be sure to go! --I'll be there again:0)

  • Underwhelming

by EntertainMeNOW on 5/7/10Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 2 out of 5

I can't say I was too impressed. I'm not saying what they were doing wasn't difficult (imagine acrobatic yoga), it's just that it wasn't always very interesting to watch. The pieces went on too long and the monotonous music was like screwdrivers in the ears.

by karb on 5/7/10Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

The dancers were great. They had such strength, grace, and energy. We have enjoyed their programs since the 70's. My only complaint was the music. It was way too loud, so at times I was protecting my ears instead of enjoying the performance.

  • Pilobulus was awe-inspiring!

by Stovie on 5/7/10Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed the program. My only regret was that they didn't do more of the close poses they are known for.

  • Way more highlights than low points

by sevell on 5/7/10Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Just watching the dancers do their thing was amazing, but to see the physiques of these fine specimens, was a highlight in and of itself. The upbeat, energetic pieces we fabulous. The last piece was lengthy and very slow, so while interesting, kinda ended the night on a low point. But Pilobus did get a rousing standing ovation. Highly recommend it.

  • How do they do that?

by taxdog on 5/7/10Palace Theatre Columbus - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent performance! The made moves and positions that no human should be able to do. And very artistic as well..

  • Adamant???

by PlainPK on 4/26/10Arena - NYRating: 4 out of 5

Confused at first by a recent reviewer's use (twice) of "adamant" but finally realized she/he/it meant: ANIMATE. Oregon has Imago which is another group who use their bodies to form shapes, animate objects, etc., etc.

  • Totally Original

by Laineyleslie on 4/19/10Ruth Eckerd Hall - ClearwaterRating: 4 out of 5

I have to admit that I was disappointed that they didn't form any adamant objects with their bodies. That's what first made me aware of Pilobolus Dance Theater. They were very entertaining regardless. They're masters of fluid motion and intertwining bodies. There were even moments of humor. They delivered a thoroughly entertaining performance . I can always go to their web site to see them make adamant objects.

  • Pilbolus Dance Theater is a "must see"!

by lkdws on 4/13/10Gaillard Auditorium - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

I have followed the progression of this troupe for about 20 years. The young dancers change, but the continuity and excellence toward perfection have remained. I have seen a variety of their repertoire both in style, music, and body coverings (or not). All have been exciting with lyrical movements and insightful interpretations at its finest!

by Charlestonfan on 4/12/10Gaillard Auditorium - CharlestonRating: 2 out of 5

Have seen Pilobolus several times. Not as creative artistically as i have seen in the past. Dancers/performers demonstrated unbeleivable strength and stamina, but this was more gymnastics than dance.

  • Phenomenal

    by JLJ44 on 4/11/10Gaillard Auditorium - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing performance troupe - don't miss your chance to see them. And the Q&A after the show provided a chance to learn about the performers and about the inspiration behind the art and creativity.

  • Pilobolus Defies Gravity

by Cwayne on 4/11/10Gaillard Auditorium - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Before Cirque de Soleil, there was, and is, Pilobolus.

  • by Anonymous on 4/11/10Gaillard Auditorium - CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

Definitely creative and contemporary...just wish they'd done more performances similar to what is shown in the ads.

  • Pilobolus was interesting

by ZolPam on 3/28/10STANLEY CENTER FOR THE ARTS - UticaRating: 5 out of 5

I found it puzzling, and I hate to say, at times a bit tedious. I thought it needed some interpretation, and I don't mean in the program, as it is too dark to read that even with the lights on. Some of the performances seemed to be never ending. It was absolutely breathtaking, though. (Did I just contradict myself??)The muscles were so defined on everyone of the magnificent dancers. I just didn't understand what they were "saying" in their dances. What were they trying to impart? Was it interpretive dance? What the HECK was that little suitcase all about? And WHY was that dancer staggering with all those chairs attached to him???

We truly enjoyed the show! A remarkable performance from all the actors! Amazing dancing, singing jumbing; also a very meaningful play.. My son (28 months) also enjoyed the show very much.. Congratulations to all

  • Pilobolus ~ remarkable!

by Gary1954 on 3/28/10STANLEY CENTER FOR THE ARTS - UticaRating: 5 out of 5

Few words can describe the world-class level of theatrical, experimental, emotionally inventive dance this troupe presents. They work at the outer edge of human possibility and expression in dance. Not ever to be missed.
