  • Sweet story that encircles the story of Neverland

by KatRitters84 on 5/3/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

PETER AND THE STARCATCHER tells the story of how magic realistically reached a place called Neverland and brings the audience full circle on how the story of Peter and the Lost Boys came to be on their island. Friends and children wanting their innocence-filled story to continue--that is what the story of the play told me. Sweet, audacious and filled with ordinary pirate ship story and how Tink and the magic of just wanting to be a boy(or any child, regardless of gender). We make our own magic.... This play was a treat to watch!

  • True Magic

by Flyingstar360 on 5/3/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I've been hoping to see this since workshop last year, and thought I'd missed my chance. The magic shown throughout the videos and clips posted from last year have increased tenfold since the move to Broadway. A nice transition from Musical to straight play, Peter and the Starcatcher was an absolute joy to watch. Each actor has such passion and love for this show and you can see it when they're onstage, even as a set piece. The sparse set is a delightful accent to the suspended reality the playwrights and actors produce. Celia Keenan-Bolger shines as the solitary actress on stage, portraying Molly as a precocious and sweetly spoiled little girl who knows just about everything- except how to fit in. She helps her father take a treasure to a far off place, but on the way run into a dasterdly pirate, Black Stach, played to perfection by Christian Borle. Stache is a bit of a bumble, and Borle throws himself around the stage without a care, making vomit jokes, and hysterical jokes with anachronisms. They also meet Boy/Peter, played by Adam Chanler-Berat, who shines in his dream role of an unlikely hero. The frightened orphaned Boy teaches Molly about different kinds of childhood, some good some bad, and Molly teaches Peter to be a leader, and what family and home really mean. Supported by a top-notch crew and beautiful set and costumes- the mermaids are fantastic- Peter and the Starcatcher is a fantastic family play, with a new and innovative view of theater.

  • Did not live up to the hype

by TheatreFan4 on 5/3/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

Had been so excited to see this, but was disappointed. Maybe it was a generational thing. It took me until intermission to figure out what TTFN stood for. I was surprised at the Tony nominations.

  • Peter and the Starcatcher ,OMG!

by MEK63 on 5/3/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

We laughed and laughed! You were not finished laughing at one joke when the next one was coming at you. Christian Borle was wonderful and delivered his jokes on the mark. Loved the ropes and how they made them work for props.

I liked the show very much. Hope it continues to play for a long time.

  • Pretty funny, but no Wicked...

by terrymc on 5/3/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Christian Borle as Black Stache stole the show. This is basically the backstory of Peter Pan (a la what Wicked is to the Wizard of Oz). It doesn't hang together as well as Wicked does, but I thought it was entertaining and Christian Borle was hilarious. The staging was very innovative and interesting. It would also be very appropriate for kids.

  • Peter and the Starcatcher was an imaginative wonde

by DashMama on 5/3/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Peter and the Starcatcher was terrific. A creative, imaginative, busy ensemble cast made for a memorable afternoon. The story of how Peter Pan became Peter Pan started as a series of books. The transformation on stage was riveting and they took minimal set and devices and created this magical world. Acting was terrific, but Black Stache aka Hook, stole the show. Laugh outloud funny for adults and kids alike.

  • Total Awesomesauce

by ThisOneBetterWork on 5/2/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Second time seeing this show and it was still a treat to behold. Incredibly entertaining and all kinds of awesome. The ensemble and stage work is seamless and so cohesive. The set and costumes compliment each other so well. The performance in a nutshell screams well thought out and well oiled machine. A little bit of everything.

  • I could hardly wait for the curtain to fall!

by Jazzelle on 5/2/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

This play is pure rubbish, kind of applying the WIcked idea to the Peter Pan story. I didn't enjoy WIcked either but at least it had good costumes and cool witches.

  • Peter and the Starcatcher did the book justice!

by MiaMargarita on 5/2/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I was really looking forward to see how they turned this book into a play. I must say they did a very creative and inventive job. There was 2 levels of humor. One for the kids and the one that went right over the kids heads. The actors were terrific. Especially the Pirate Captain - The Stache.

I took my daughter to Peter and the Starcatchers after hearing rave reviews. We were both disappointed. It was very slow, especially the first half. Although creative, it needed more action, maybe songs, to make it engaging.

  • Horrible - left at intermission

by Anonymous on 5/2/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

For my birthday, my family went to Peter and the Starcatcher. The beginning was hard to follow, there were inane comments that were not funny inserted throughout the first half, and for the amount of money we spent, it was horrible.

  • Great fun!

by smsl314 on 5/2/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

This play is a great prequel to Peter Pan. The minimilist staging works incredibly well and the story and characters are great fun. Although older children may like this, it isn't for those younger than 8. But you don't need to be a child to enjoy it, just young at heart.

  • LOVED it!

by lola109 on 5/2/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

We saw this show this past weekend with our three children (14, 12 & 8). We all LOVED it. It was so funny and the writing was excellent. It's recommended for age 10 & up and I'd stick to that unless you child is familiar with the book.

  • One of the best shows I have ever seen

by Broadwayite on 5/2/12Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This play is well written, funny. engaging and superbly acted. It is interesting from beginning to end. BUT it is not a play for young children. The play is sophisticated and witty. It is for adults. I would go back to see it again.

  • Peter and the Starcatcher

Wonderful and imaginative. We thoroughly enjoyed the play. A relatively simple and creative set lets the talented and enthusiastic acting ensemple act out the play.
