About

Patty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together.

Over two decades, the 2x GRAMMY Award winner - and 7x nominee - and Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement award winner, has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for "[writing] cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people...[her] songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends."

2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist's GRAMMY Award-winning 10th studio recording, PATTY GRIFFIN. One of the most deeply personal recordings of Griffin's remarkable two-decade career and first-ever eponymous LP, PATTY GRIFFIN made a top 5 debut on Billboard's "Independent Albums" chart amidst unprecedented worldwide acclaim, and later, a prestigious GRAMMY Award for "Best Folk Album."

Griffin's new album, CROWN OF ROSES, is a deeply personal and introspective work that explores themes of identity, nature, family, and womanhood. Emerging from a creative drought during the pandemic, Griffin found herself re-evaluating the stories she'd long told herself. The result is an eight-track collection that is both sparse and emotionally rich, blending folk, Americana, and blues. With CROWN OF ROSES, Griffin offers a record that's both grounded and transcendent -- one that invites listeners to release old narratives, embrace new truths, and stay truly alive while they're here. Having crafted a rich catalog that chronicles love and death, heartache and joy, connection and detachment, Patty Griffin continues to push her art forward, as always imbuing every effort with compassion and craft, uncanny perception, and ever-increasing ingenuity.

  • Disappointing

by DG on 11/1/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 2 out of 5

We’re big Patty fans but, along with many others, we left early. Some started leaving only a couple of songs in. Patty was drifting noticeably off-key A LOT, which is particularly tough for someone so known for her crystal clear vocals. She alluded to getting over a cold…don’t know how much that was a factor, or if it’s really a result of her cancer several years ago. Either way, we were left wondering if this was a one-off, or just the way things are going on this tour. If the latter, the team around her is really letting her (and her fans) down by letting it continue unchallenged. It would have been better to cancel the show, because she is clearly struggling. Venue was great, as was Hayes Carll, the opener!

  • disappointing.

I'm a big Patty Griffin fan and have been going to concerts since the 60's. This was probably the worst concert I have been to. Unfortunately, Patty couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Mostly flat or just off key. There probably wasn't a note on pitch. It was painful and we left early. Just look at some of the videos taken and you will hear what I'm talking about. If you can't sing in tune, don't do live shows, we deserve better.

  • Staff in the lobby and hallways were pounded than the snow

by Pink Heron on 11/1/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

I was in a balcony edge seat. It was frustrating trying to listen to the music, while the staff were talking loudly and laughing in the hallways and lobby area. Someone needs to let them know that their noise reaches up to the concert area. I’ve always loved the Moore, but will hesitate to go again because of this.

  • Seating frustration

by Techno on 11/1/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

It was a good concert. Our only disappointment was in the seating. We splurged and bought the expensive front-row seats (Row A). When we got there, there was another row of chairs right in front of ours. Turns out that's what they consider "pit"seating, but there's no pit. Very disappointing, and deceptive, the way these front tickets are sold. Everybody in our row was surprised as well.

  • Hayes and Patty

by Kimberwolf on 10/28/23Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Went really to see Todd Snider, hayes Carll was his substitute! So I went, and was pleasantly surprised by Patty! I’d heard some of her stuff but wow! She’s the real deal! Hayes, what can I say, you rocked it!!! ❤️

  • I love Patty’s songs, old ones esp., Wish set lasted longer!

by Pea-hen on 10/27/23Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

I love Patty’s songs, old ones esp., also Hayes Carl was very good, his lyrics can flow! Sorry about Patty’s cold/ailment- I could hear it in some songs. Yet I really liked her energy on last couple of songs. Guitar sideman was phenomenal with so many sounds!! Wish the set lasted longer

  • Forever luv

by TigerMane on 10/27/23Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 1 out of 5

I will always love and support Patty, but there were so many challenges to that performance. I had to get up and leave several times because my heart broke for her. She has always been a fierce and powerful singer and player. It looks like her cold combined with her neuropathy in her voice and hands got the better of her. She may have even chosen songs that were easier for the evening but the piano songs seemed like a funeral. My advice to her is to get two strong acoustic players on either side to bang those tunes like to she used to and cary some of the harmonies. Her performances used to be a beautiful bull fight. I hope I see that again. I know its in there somewhere.

  • Patty is wonderful but she sang out of key a lot

by Patty Fan on 10/27/23Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

The venue is incredible! What a great place to see a concert! And I love Patty Griffin but honestly she was out of key on almost every song. Singing flat ;( And she didn’t do a lot of my favorite songs. So a bit disappointed to be honest. The opening act was fabulously entertaining and a pleasant surprise.

  • Patty Griffin is an amazing songwriter

by Victoria on 10/27/23Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Could not have been more elated and entertained by her music, her heart and soul. Just amazing and I look forward to more new music and her library of written prose and heaven.

  • Disappointed! And will keep listening to Patty

    by TG510 on 10/25/23Rating: 3 out of 5

Patty had a cold. Maybe that was the problem. But her voice didn't work well and didn't work well with the band. Her guitar player was quite talented but the sort of Spanish -sounding guitar didn't make sense with her music. The slow tempo felt flat and I barely recognized the songs I knew and didn't know most of what she sang. The night never got going. We ended up leaving early - rarely do that - but it just wasn't that engaging. It's too bad. I love Patty and will keep listening to her music. Hopefully it was just an off night - none of it really filled the theater with any energy.

  • Disappointed

by Andy on 10/20/23Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

Patty had a cold, so some latitude should be given for being off key through most of the performance. It’s a shame she didn’t postpone the concert until she felt better. Also, she performed few of her recognizable songs, so, even as a fan, much of the music in the set was unfamiliar to me.

  • I left early

by Jas on 10/20/23Teragram Ballroom - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

The sound system was pure treble and did not work in sych with griffin's singing voice, which is also high treble, making the lyrics mush in my ears. Perhaps it was my problem, or it may be others had the same unpleasant experience. And., of course, there was no Todd Snider. All in all, the night was a real downer.

  • Patty's voice is tired

by Bill on 9/21/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 2 out of 5

I love Patty Griffin and her music. This concert was evidence that Patty's voice is not as it was. Frankly, I could not recognize the songs that she sang during the concert. It was painful to listen to her. Her guitar and piano playing were first rate. Her voice was a monotone, she could not reach any notes. It was so sad.

  • Not Great

by Americana Fan on 9/21/23Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 2 out of 5

From the opening cover of the Chicks Truth No. 2, Party was out of synch with her band. She struggled with tempo and phrasing throughout the show. The song selection was also slow tempo and a little dark. She also struggled with a reworked rendition of Move Up. I’ve seen her three previous times at the Birchmere and her voice was always strong - outshining Emmylou and Shawn when they toured together. This concert was a disappointment.

  • Patty Griffin - Ponte Vedra

by cal q late on 2/13/23Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 4 out of 5

Great show, great concert hall, no bad seats!!! I wish she had played a little softer...doesn't need to be that loud in a small venue.

  • I love Patty but she was off key all night

by JDL on 2/11/23Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 2 out of 5

The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall is a wonderfully intimate venue. Unfortunately Patty Griffin was off-key so when she ended the concert after about 70 minutes, we were not disappointed about the short show. Instrumentally the concert was very good but it was kind of painful to listen to Patty sing.

  • Almost amazing

by StNaive on 2/11/23Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 4 out of 5

Patty is always wonderful. I've seen her a lot. She sounded great. Her guitarist and drummer are top rate. All was well except the show was SO short. Like 1 hr long. Im not mad though. She's my favorite singer so it's all good. Love you Patty.

  • Disappointing

by Ells on 2/11/23Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 2 out of 5

First time seeing Patty live- and I love her music! But her vocals were WAY off. Struggled to find the correct pitch on some songs, others that were my favorites were almost unrecognizable. But the music was fantastic. And Patty is lovely - engaging and funny. But yeah, I won’t go see her live again.

  • Not my cup of tea

by Tadgh on 2/8/23Scottish Rite Auditorium - CollingswoodRating: 1 out of 5

Opening act, Raul Malo was excellent! Patty Griffin was, trying to be nice here, not my cup of tea. We left after the fourth song. Couldn’t take it anymore.

  • Opening act was great....

by carob on 2/7/23Scottish Rite Auditorium - CollingswoodRating: 4 out of 5

.... and should have been the main attraction. Raul Malo's presence and voice made it near impossible for Patty Griffin to follow. This event was a mismatch of style and content. There were many Malo fans who left after the first 10 minutes of Patty's performance which was as good as any of her past events. It would benefit Raul Malo to perform here with his group (Mavericks) sometime in the near future. I liked both acts but for different reasons.
