About

Patty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together.

Over two decades, the 2x GRAMMY Award winner - and 7x nominee - and Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement award winner, has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for "[writing] cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people...[her] songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends."

2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist's GRAMMY Award-winning 10th studio recording, PATTY GRIFFIN. One of the most deeply personal recordings of Griffin's remarkable two-decade career and first-ever eponymous LP, PATTY GRIFFIN made a top 5 debut on Billboard's "Independent Albums" chart amidst unprecedented worldwide acclaim, and later, a prestigious GRAMMY Award for "Best Folk Album."

Griffin's new album, CROWN OF ROSES, is a deeply personal and introspective work that explores themes of identity, nature, family, and womanhood. Emerging from a creative drought during the pandemic, Griffin found herself re-evaluating the stories she'd long told herself. The result is an eight-track collection that is both sparse and emotionally rich, blending folk, Americana, and blues. With CROWN OF ROSES, Griffin offers a record that's both grounded and transcendent -- one that invites listeners to release old narratives, embrace new truths, and stay truly alive while they're here. Having crafted a rich catalog that chronicles love and death, heartache and joy, connection and detachment, Patty Griffin continues to push her art forward, as always imbuing every effort with compassion and craft, uncanny perception, and ever-increasing ingenuity.

  • Buddy Miller: wonderful surprise, Patty: exquisite

by Chellaluna on 4/5/10McMenamins Crystal Ballroom - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Buddy produced Patty's latest effort, a gospel themed work that I can't wait to go and buy. Buddy was absolutely fantastic--what a guitar player! Loved his seasoned voice and humor. Patty was incredible as usual but what struck me was her natural ability to handle gospel songs, treating the genre with respectful enthusiasm and tender-heartedness. We saw her on Easter Sunday, so the music seemed fitting for the holiday but wasn't preachy. She mostly sang songs from the new album but also did "Mary" and an exquisite version of "Heavenly Day." The encore included "I Went Up To The Mountain" and was just amazing. A perfect way to celebrate the holiday, but the show is well worth every penny. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.

  • Great show

Two talented artists blended their skills to paint a canvas of American life. Just what the doctor ordered as I had just spent some time in the hospital. Felt much better after the show. Send me a bill.

Great show by both Buddy and Patty. Having been a Buddy and Julie Miller fan for years would have like to hear Buddy solo a little more. Had never heard Patty in concert before. Came away with with a great appreciation of her talent and abilities. Will look forward to seeing either of them again in the hopefully not too distant future.

  • Patty Griffin-Buddy Miller--an awesome combination

by HowieF on 3/28/10The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was excellent in every way. 2 very talented artists who clearly enjoyed playing with each other and for the appreciative audience. It was a great night and very memorable! Thanks for the experience.

Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller were both amazing. The Moonrise Hotel was awesome.

  • First night of Downtown Church tour

by WylieWillie on 3/27/10The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Patty Griffin keeps getting better and better. She covers several old or traditional gospel pieces in her powerful way. Her choice of having Buddy Miller open and join her made for one long, perfect set. Loved it. One of the best I have seen. Gotta get the CD.

  • Crisp but a little short

by SDGUS on 3/27/10The Pageant - St LouisRating: 4 out of 5

Took my family to see the Buddy Miller/Patty Griffin show. The sound was amazing and the band was great. Very tight, minimalist playing without a lot of wasted notes or "overplaying" which is a sign of great musicianship. I was a little disappointed at Patty sitting in on all of Buddy's opening set since in my mind he was the headliner. (I became a fan the first time I heard "Universal House of Prayer" and only became more so when I heard "Written in Chalk") Though their voices blended well and Patty is amazing - I missed hearing Buddy's plaintive tenor flying solo on a few of his songs. Overall a great show - highly recommended - regularly attend shows all around town at big and small venues and the Pageant is by far my favorite. If Buddy had done a couple more songs and Patty had played another 20 minutes it would have been the show of the year... the craftsmanship was that good.

  • Patty + Buddy = FANTASTIC

by CentralCoastChick on 3/27/10The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great show - start to finish! I've never seen the first stop on a tour before, so it was fun to see them kinda getting used to one another - it almost felt like the audience was a part of their rehearsal process. I enjoyed hearing Buddy sing Mark Heard's "Worry Too Much" first, and I also thought the whole show (pre- & post-intermission) was positive & upbeat w/o being saccharine. Patty's gutsy, funny "I Smell a Rat" knocked all our socks off. The Pageant crew did a great job, too - kudos, all!

  • Doesn't get any better than this.

by DwightShrute on 3/27/10The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Highly recommended. It really doesn't get any better than Buddy and Patty. Both sounded great and the show was tremendous. In the age of America Idol it's great to see musicians with some depth and the only way to get that is putting in the time. Enough of the soapbox, if you're a fan of this music go support it. Worth every cent! (Great band also.)

  • Patty Griffin & Buddy Miller

    by ATLAS2582 on 3/27/10The Pageant - St LouisRating: 3 out of 5

I liked Buddy Miller! He was excellent. I have been a fan of Patty Griffin for years and Uptown Church is definitely my lease favorite album. I was happy to see her live, although I'm sure that this would have been my least favorite time to see her. I'm looking forward to seeing her on a different tour. Her voice is powerfully amazing. So much so that I enjoyed the concert even while I didn't care for most of the song choices.

  • Not what the audience wanted

by DaddyWoof on 3/27/10The Pageant - St LouisRating: 2 out of 5

Patty wanted to push her new album and sing lots of gospel songs. The audience wanted to hear Patty Griffin songs. A mis-match.
