About

Patty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together.

Over two decades, the 2x GRAMMY Award winner - and 7x nominee - and Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement award winner, has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for "[writing] cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people...[her] songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends."

2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist's GRAMMY Award-winning 10th studio recording, PATTY GRIFFIN. One of the most deeply personal recordings of Griffin's remarkable two-decade career and first-ever eponymous LP, PATTY GRIFFIN made a top 5 debut on Billboard's "Independent Albums" chart amidst unprecedented worldwide acclaim, and later, a prestigious GRAMMY Award for "Best Folk Album."

Griffin's new album, CROWN OF ROSES, is a deeply personal and introspective work that explores themes of identity, nature, family, and womanhood. Emerging from a creative drought during the pandemic, Griffin found herself re-evaluating the stories she'd long told herself. The result is an eight-track collection that is both sparse and emotionally rich, blending folk, Americana, and blues. With CROWN OF ROSES, Griffin offers a record that's both grounded and transcendent -- one that invites listeners to release old narratives, embrace new truths, and stay truly alive while they're here. Having crafted a rich catalog that chronicles love and death, heartache and joy, connection and detachment, Patty Griffin continues to push her art forward, as always imbuing every effort with compassion and craft, uncanny perception, and ever-increasing ingenuity.

  • Such a great voice

Wonderful show! So happy that Buddy Miller got to open for her (and with her) because more people need to buy his music, too. Patty sings with her whole body, and she sounded SO good. This is probably my 5th Patty Griffin concert and she never disappoints.

Patty...amazing voice and excellent rhythm guitar from a person who transmits their musical expression from very cell in their body. Patty's band, outstanding!!!!!! Buddy, not only an ax master but a very good singer...his last song was a transcendence to musical heaven. Go and see this show!

  • The sky opened: Patty Griffin with Buddy Miller

by CraigSK on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Last night's concert was simply beautiful. I have been a Patty Griffin fan for over a decade and it was the second time I'd heard her in concert (the first time was in a little bar in Indianapolis). Her music has carried me through some hard times and there was the same beauty and power in her music last night that I always find whenever I listen to her, but with the unrepeatability of a single event. There was a particular delicacy, however, in the way her voice (so consistently lovely, even when it is singing hard-driving blues) mixed with Buddy Miller's--both when she supported him and when he supported her. And her band was just great. The Wiltern is such a good venue, too--so beautiful, so resonant. The fact that this concert punctuated a weekend celebration of 40 years of marriage made this especially memorable for the two of us.

Patty was awesome. Buddy Miller's opening was great as well. I would have just liked a few of Patty's old rockers. But no real complaints. She is Hall of Fame material

  • Patty Griffin was awesome!

My best friend and I went to the Patty Griffin show at the Wiltern, and had a most enjoyable time. Her voice is remarkable, and I would recommend this concert to all of my friends.

  • Patty Griffin is a true treasure

by Anaqah on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I have wanted to see Patty Griffin in concert for a long time and her concert at the Wiltern was my first chance. She was everything I had hoped for and more. Even though she did only a few of her older songs (songs which I listen to over and over), I loved every minute of the concert. She is an amazing singer / songwriter, a great performer and a genuine person. My only disappointment was when the concert was over .. I could have sat and listened to her for hours more. Buddy Miller, was performed with her, was a treat. I truly enjoyed his music as well (and ended up buying his CD). The night was awesome. The Wiltern is a great venue.

  • Patty Griffin ~ Goddess of Songwriting

by SharonSongwriter on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Ah! got my fix of LIVE Patty Griffin and it has been a while, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, ... I LOVE the new album, but the set was very "new record laden" and I found myself waiting to hear some more of the older stuff. Patty has SO much of her 'own' songwriting but I found her covering so many other artists instead. Of course, she did a phenomenal job at it and I was dancing around at the end in the pit like everyone else. I was blown away with her vocal performance, but I kept wishing she'd sit down at the piano or be on stage 'alone' more. I love Buddy Miller and he really was awesome, (had never seen any of his shows), but I was there for Patty and her songwriting. I thought their little talk about World Vision charity was 'just right' in length and sincerity. I also thought the band was amazing. But again, I kept wishing Patty would sit down at the piano and touch that melancholy part of me with "Burgundy Shoes" or "Kite". When you are a long-time fan, I guess you are impossible to fully satisfy as she would have to give a 4 hour concert to hit all of the material craved (-; Overall, I loved seeing her LIVE as she is the primary influence for starting my own songwriting attempts. One negative note ... and it's not about Patty, but rather ... the Wiltern staff: Some woman SCREAMED at me aggressively when I tried to snap a photo on my way out. I was leaving the pit and had a great vantage point for a band shot. I had been taking cell phone photos the entire show without a flash, (many other folks had been too). So when I got screamed at ... I jumped a foot and zoomed out of there. I fully respect the band's wishes, however, I was unaware of those until I was scolded in public. The woman could have simply tapped me on the shoulder to stop me from taking the photo. It sent me out of there with a slightly negative feeling but that passed as I remembered all the of music with my friend. The other staff was great! I wish to end this review on a positive note. The venue is just beautiful! Patty Griffin is one of the best songwriters I've ever experienced. Her music is for the more sophisticated, active listener, rather than for the audience that just wants to tune out. Her vocals are sweet and powerful all at the same time. She is a first class act and she has teamed up with others of the same caliber. I will always be one of her biggest fans.

  • Patty's going too gospel

by fanofpatty on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

Patty Griffin is an amazingly talented singer and songwriter. Her songs tell wonderful stories. At this concert, she highlighted her interests in gospel music. Although she's got a wonderful voice and is entitled to explore different musical directions, the emphasis on gospel music dominated the concert and left little time for her to sing her vast array of wonderful songs. It was a generous concert, but left me disappointed in her song choice. I hope this is not a permanent shift in direction for her.

  • Where were the classics?

by julzznw on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

Patty Griffin is one of my favorite singer/songwriters and I have been a fan for over ten years now. So, when she came to Los Angeles, I was thrilled with the opportunity to see her play some of my favorite music live. However, over half the songs she played were not even her own songs, written by friends or old Hank Williams songs. She played precisely three songs that were not on her new album and several others were songs she has not even recorded yet. That';s great if you're playing a two or three hour set, but that was not the case last night. I have to say, I was profoundly disappointed.

  • Patty Griffin Buddy Miller

    by gaz1 on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Absolutely fantastic. Patty proved she can sing ANYTHING. While 'Downtown Church' is not my favorite Patty, I appreciated the songs much more 'live'.. Her band is perfect, she sounded great and Buddy Miller just added to it all. It was a great night!

  • AAA Performance!!!

by OceanBird on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

As always, Patty and band gave every last ounce in a spectacular performance! She is truly an artist of the first degree, proving again her versatility and full control of any genre she explores. Buddy Miller is also a force of excellence on his own, or when giving Patty the sky on which to soar!!!

  • Patty "PLease sing your OWN songs!!!!"

by maliagirl on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

If I wanted to hear a gospel singer which I would never go I would do that. When is this amazing singer songwriter now a gospel singer. I have all of your other records. I love your voice NOT BUDDYS! He should get his own tour. You dont need him, He needs you. You are so powerful all alone on stage or with YOUR BAND. What a great venue The Wiltern. I will alwys support you and go see you. But are you tired of singing your own songs? Im not tired of hearing you. PLease Patty please we are your fans, PLease play the songs from you other 5 records. I felt there were other people there that were really disappointed that we didnt hear enough of "You" And Let Buddy open if you want. But Let him hang out there alone. Your not his back up singer! You are the STAR of that show. I dont want to hear him that much.. Sorry but It was well something just felt wrong about how you were out there supporting him. WE came to see YOU PATTY!!!! you are one of the best songwriters and singers of today!!

  • Patty Griffin is fabulous!

    by pattyfan50 on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

The show that Patty and Buddy put on was fantastic. The trouble was it was tainted by the timing the Wiltern seems to go on. I've been to the Wiltern twice and both times the shows started more than an hour later than scheduled. Going into a show when you thought it would start 2-plus hours earlier makes it difficult to really enjoy the show. It was advertised at 7:30pm and Patty didn't get on stage until 9:45pm!!!! I'm all for a little anticipation-building but come on!

  • by Anonymous on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

I was hoping to hear more of her older songs. A little too much country and cover songs for me. Great set. Great people!

  • No surprise!

by Spumony on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

An amazing performance by both Buddy and Patty. They were both in top form and so gracious and warm. The view and sound from the balcony of this beautiful theater made for a perfect setting for these two classic artists. Can't wait to see Patty again tonight in Solano Beach!

  • by Anonymous on 4/11/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Phenominal! It was a great show. I loved the fact that Patty and Buddy did so many songs together!

  • too gospel

where is the Patty i knew and loved? you've gone gospel on me :-( Think i'll just stick with the old CD's. I was disappointed with her and the opening act. The Wiltern was the most uncomfortable theater i've been to in LA so far - felt like i was sitting in an airplane coach seat. I was just waiting for the end. bummer.

  • Patty Griffin was awesome as always!

Buddy Miller went too long but was great as well. Patty truly is the best female singer around.

Patty Griffin was amazing. I have seen her in concert twice now & have never been unhappy with her performance. Her voice is amazing & her shows are lots of fun & also insightful as she usually likes to give a little story about each song. This concert was the first time that I've been to the Crystal Ballroom in my 17 years of living in Portland & I'm now sorry for all of the shows that I've missed.
