Singer and actress Patti LuPone’s career in Broadway and Hollywood spans four decades. She is a multiple GRAMMY® and Tony Award winner, inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2006.
Since establishing herself with a Tony Award-winning performance as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, she has impressed audiences and critics alike in Les Miserables, Sunset Boulevard, Sweeney Todd and Gypsy (for which she won another Tony Award in 2008).
In Don’t Monkey with Broadway, Patti LuPone explores, through indelible interpretations of classic Broadway show tunes by the likes of Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Jule Styne, Stephen Schwartz, Charles Strouse, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, how her life-long love affair with Broadway began and her concern for what Manhattan’s Theatre District - the Great White Way - is becoming today.
Few performers show the kind of dedication and commitment to their material, and to connecting with their audience, as this GRAMMY® and Tony Award-winning star. It’s little exaggeration to state that LuPone has outdone herself with her new show, which debuted in New York to raucous cheers.
Patti never ceases to amaze me! The range of her acting and voice is incredible.
I felt so privileged to be able to see Patti LuPone in person. What a dynamic, engaging performer. There are not many like her around.
What can I say? This was a brilliant performance -- Patti's voice never sounded better. Three standing ovations and we still wanted more!!
An effigy of Patti Lupone belongs in the Smithsonian Institute along with the rest of American treasures. What can one say except that the show was flawless... great if not brilliant musical arrangements of standards in the first act and mostly Broadway show songs in the second.. Not a wasted moment or song.. Oh, and by the way with the most wonderful voice around these days and her dramatic and comedic acting skills each song was perfect. Best one could say is that this event was worth outlandish ticketmaster fees.
Patti is amazing, it was an honor to be there. Fine show, great performance.
Stellar performance from beginning to end. She is a class act and has one of the finest voices in the American musical theater today. She nailed it from start to finish.
What a pro! She whipped through songs so confidently & quickly & with utter strength - it was amazing to watch. Her voice is so strong & her acting of each song is so smart. A brilliant night of music from a living legend.
This was such a fun concert and Patti amazed as always. Highly recommend you catch her if you can.
Both of these artists were unforgettable! My mother and I really enjoyed the playfulness these two friends showed throughout the show and despite the years, their voices are still tremendous! I appreciated that they sang a few tunes from "Evita" and would have liked more from that, but overall the experience was wonderful! Bring them to CSUN again!
Incredible performance. Mandy and Patti are legends!
As always Patti never fails to deliver. She sang beautifully despite battling a cold which was unnoticable in her singing. She sand many great hits from each of her CD's and many Broadway Shows. A well rounded show that displayed the great talent she is. Can't wait to travel to FL to see it again in just a few weeks
FINALLY GOT TO SEE PATTI SING HER BROADWAY HITS. SHE CONNECTS WITH EVERYONE IN THE AUDIANCE. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE PATTI AGAIN SINGING HER BROADWAY HITS PART 2. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR HER SING ROSE'S TURN AND......
This performance was better than I expected it to be. A must see for anyone who has not seen her in this type of show.
... which is to say AWESOME! Ms. Lupone is incredible- of course the voice is first rate as always. But her use of the stage, interaction with the band, and between-song banter were all as professional as you can get. Her set list was perfect- all of her own Broadway classics, along with some popular standards and a wonderful melding of two Oleta Adams tunes. "My Way" was a bit strange for my taste, but i could see the audience loved it. It was her last number, however, which was the best of the evening. No microphone, no accompaniment- just that beautiful voice, soaring out into the crowd. Mesmerizing. The Tilles Center is a beautiful venue- i would definitely see other performances there- great acoustics, sounds and lighting. We sat in the very last row, and had no objections. I know Ms. Lupone is currently starring on Broadway- but i do hope she pops up with a solo recital again soon. I would gladly attend tomorrow!
Patti LuPone is a true professional. She not only sings but puts an amazing amount of passion and feeling into her songs. Just terrific.
Amazing - this was one of her best concerts. Her voice remains incredible - "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" was actually better than I remembered it from the original production of Evita. And no one can sing "As Long as He Needs Me" like she does!
Patti LuPone was at her best on Sat. evening. Her voice is incredible and has not changed throughout the years. She sang a variety of songs and brought the audience to their feet several times. Her second set was mostly Broadway tunes from shows she had been in or wished she had been in. I hadn't heard her sing, "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," in a long time and she didn't disappoint us. Simply amazing after all these years. This is the kind of show you wish would never end and a wonderful way to start the holiday season.
She gives totally of herself in her performance. A real joy to see. Go Tigers!!
Her selection of songs was excellent. Performance length was just right. However her accompanist played too loudly overshadowing her voice. The other problem I had was understanding her. I thought it was me, however those I was with also had the same problem of understanding the words. We don't know if it was her or the PAC sound system.
Finally hearing and seeing Patti Lupone perform fulfilled a long time desire! We drove two hours to get there and the performance made the drive completely worth it. Patti was absolutley wonderful.
