This was a wonderful concert. The chorus's sound has improved greatly since Gabe became music director. The "Songs of the Phoenix" was beautifully performed, and had some thrilling moments with especially wonderful soloists. But I felt the whole song cycle didn't fit together as a cohesive whole. Too many different ideas (stars, trees, mothers, empanadas, flags, etc.). No arc from beginning to end. Not the fault of the chorus. Rev. Watkins was a great choice as narrator. Tropical Wave was greatly improved from their Holiday performance at the Hard Rock. In fact, I think "Like a River in My Soul" was my favorite piece of the concert. "I Dream of Time" should have been the final piece, swapped with "Come Together". The latter ended strangely sudden and the audience didn't know the piece had ended. P.S. Mark needs to keep his pre-concert comments short. Five minutes tops.
Excellent performance. Entire cast and crew were awesome. Wonderful experience.
Great vibe, the chorus members were very prepared and appeared engrossed in the event. Lots of changes, which makes the excitement of what is next is all about. Only suggestion: Open the semi-circle of the men on stage. We were seated stage right, and could not see the faces of the performers.
Excellent selection of jazz classics delivered brilliantly by chorus, soloists and small groups. Great Band and overall feeling of care free fun
The singing and the dancing was great. There was nothing I didn't like
WONDERFUL EVENING, WONDERFUL TALENTED GUYS, GREAT SONGS, MULTI TALENTED CREW, SONG AND DANCE MEN... LOVED IT
First, the renovated Parker Playhouse is a beautiful venue for this and other shows/“events. great sight lines and acoustics! The Chorus gave a spectacular concert. The selections were fun and highlighted both the entire chorus as well as individual vials and subsets of the Chorus. It was a delightful evening! Kudos to alll!
The men’s voices, the special choirs, solos, the presenters, narrator and orchestra were all over the top awesome. I especially want to call out the soloists; each and everyone performed so professionally and were heartfelt. Hint to ticket buyers at this venue: the seat selection tool is confusing and what I thought were middle seats were actually end row seats which cut out the ability to see some performers it the sound was not affected at all.
The venue of the Parker Playhouse was a great way to experience the Gay Men's Chorus. The stage sets of a jazz nightclub were quite effective, and the use of an MC was a brilliant idea. The best part of the show was the solo vocals. It was great to see some of the chorus members showcasing their individual talents. The group songs were well chosen and executed and the whole show was one of the best I have seen of the Chorus. The new director is to be congratulated! It was also great to see the whole concert being sung by the Chorus rather than a large portion of the show being devoted to an outside guest!
