Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs

Named one of the most fun people in show business by Time Magazine, Olivier and Tony-Award winning actor, singer and author Alan Cumming makes his debut in Melbourne with a raucous one-man show. Alan Cumming: Sings Sappy Songs is an eclectic, wildly entertaining mix of intimate stories - from the sentimental to the sassy - and witty reinterpretations of pop songs and stage classics, especially tailored for his tour down under.

Sings Sappy Songs is inspired by Cumming’s year hosting the infamous “Club Cumming” in his dressing room during the revival of Cabaret on Broadway and recently scored rave reviews during a residency at New York’s legendary Carlyle Hotel.  Joining him on stage for a night of irreverent humour and mischief-making is long-time collaborator and Emmy Award-winning musical director Lance Horne. Both will be rocking out with an Australian band.

Alan Cumming is a shape-shifting trickster, as enthralling and nimble with Shakespeare as he is with show tunes, and an irresistible presence in any room. He’s garnered a legion of fans through his career on stage and screen, including his acclaimed turn as Eli Gold on CBS’s The Good Wife, and his work as a columnist and author of the NY Times Best Selling memoir, Not My Father's Son.

"In the underpopulated arena of male cabaret singers, Mr. Cumming may be the only one with the talent and drive to change its direction.” – New York Times.

“Forget sexy. Tony Award winner Alan Cumming is bringing cabaret back. In the one man show, the Scottish actor-singer unveils a naughty and comical evening. His visceral banter is balanced by his performance of kooky and mainstream songs. Yes, this irresistible scamp has feelings. But he is first and foremost fabulous.” - Los Angeles Times.

“Taking command of the stage with the ease of a vaudevillian who has been treading the boards for decades, Mr. Cumming entertained with a capital E.”- New York Times

What a performer he is! His voice was fantastic. Loved the songs he chose. The narrative was deep, very personal and refreshing, His performance was authentic, sometimes funny and sometimes sad. Most of all - it was wise. Altogether, the evening was fabulous!

    Great Performer…abbreviated performance

by OnTheRun on 4/9/24Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

Alan Cummings is a gifted performer and entertainer. He engages easily with the audience and you enjoy the show from the moment he walks on the stage. He makes you, smile, laugh, engage emotionally and admire his talents and abilities. The one shortcoming (pun intended) was the abbreviated length of the show. We were informed when entering that there would be a 90 minute performance with no interruptions or intermission. The show began at 8:10 and concluded at 9:20 to a well deserved standing ovation. The audience fully expected him to return to the stage for the last 20 minutes of the show. We were mistaken and surprised that instead of Mr. Cummings encore…the theater lights came on and it was time to exit. Disappointing and though we enjoyed the show…it is unlikely that I would purchase tickets to see him again.

    Too short

by Mktpro99 on 4/9/24Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

Alan Cumming is quite the storyteller and humorist. Some of his Scottish jokes were above my head. The performance was slightly over 1 hour; way too short for the price. Room had excellent acoustics.

Allan Cumming is a treasure. There is nobody like him. Not only does he have a gorgeous voice but he can make you laugh and cry with his way to tell a story. If you have the chance, don't miss seeing him in concert. He's unforgettable!

    Fabulous show, but …

by FilmDirector on 4/9/24Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

The show was fabulous but Alan Cumming could have left out a lot of his sexual experiences. I was also disappointed that Alan would not meet his fans back stage after his show.
