Dionne Warwick in Concert

When you see Dionne Warwick perform, you know you're in the presence of pop-music royalty. This is a woman who's remained one of America's top hitmakers throughout multiple eras, contributing classic songs one after another. At the same time, Warwick radiates the warmth that lies at the core of her legendary hits, and for all of her undeniable elegance, her onstage presence couldn't be more natural and down-to-earth. Despite the many decades Warwick has been bringing her unique brand of pop to the stage and studio, her sultry, hypnotic voice remains undiminished. Hearing her deliver songs she made famous, like "I Say a Little Prayer" and "What the World Needs Now Is Love," is like opening a love letter from another era that bears just as much of an emotional impact today as it did back then.

Dionne Warwick Background

Though she's one of the world's premier pop singers, Dionne Warwick actually started out as a gospel singer with The Drinkard Singers and The Gospelaires. In the early 1960s, however, she crossed paths with iconic songwriting team Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The two men were working on sophisticated pop material and they found the voice that matched their vision in Warwick. Her recordings of tunes like "Walk on By" and "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" led to huge successes for both the singer and the songwriters, while helping to define the era in pop music along the way. That in itself would be enough to ensure Warwick's place in history, but she kept reinventing herself in the decades to come with hits like 1971's "Then Came You," 1982's "Heartbreaker," and 1985's "That's What Friends Are For," proving that her talent was bound to no single time period.

The venue is great! Been there twice, highly recommend it.

Dionne Warwick is a legend, but at 82, she is just way over the hill. Most of her hits were abbreviated, she would sing a verse or two and then move on to the next one, probably because she just can't sing for more than an hour or so. Her grand daughter and grand nephew (who is about 7 or 8) helped her on a few numbers, which was a nice touch, but overall, she was about what I expected.

Dionne was fabulous! So glad I came.

    by Bill Weinberg on 8/14/23

I considered this a once in a lifetime opportunity to see one of the greatest artists of our generation. I had very high expectations and Dionne met all of them. She brought back memories with each song and charmed the audience with her kind and unpretentious nature. It’s hard to believe anyone could be this successful for so many years. I was and still am in awe of Dionne. One suggestion is that Dionne’s granddaughter not be the opening act but be woven into the songs with Dionne as the evening progresses. Cheyenne is very talented and adds quite a bit to the performance. Overall, a terrific performance by a fabulous musician!

    One off the bucket list!

    by Don J on 8/14/23

The concert was excellent. Ms. Warwick's voice is about as strong as ever. She sang all of her old hits beautifully. Her ganddaughter was the opening act . She is beautiful and a great performer. Her very young grandnephew was also very good, particularly for someone who is around five years old. I suspect that because of the incredible heat in this outdoor venue, everything was delayed by a total of one hour. I wish the venue had advised the audience of this as we were sitting there in the blazing sun waiting for someone to come onto the stage.

    An enjoyable evening!

    by Willybill on 8/14/23

I’ve been listening to Dionne Warwick for 60 years, and have always considered her a divine singer. I’ve never been in a position to actually see her until last week. Of course, she now 82, and not as powerful and capable as she was in her prime, but she gave a very nice performance. It was wonderful to hear her singing so many of the songs I remembered. She was accompanied by her grand-daughter, Cheyenne Elliott, who also has an excellent voice. I’m glad we got to see Dionne!

    Dionne Warwick is pure class!

    by Mark K. on 8/13/23

Dionne’s performance at The Amp at Log Still in Bardstown, Kentucky was a master class in how to be a living legend. She sang for nearly two hours, and covered 6 decades of her hit recordings, that have become American Music Standards. At nearly 83, she is still a commanding presence. She was in good voice and good spirits. She had the audience in the palm of her hand the entire evening, and she left us wanting more. This woman is a national treasure!

Dionne Was Wonderful, The Audience Was Not

by Peeper Beeper on 4/12/23Bally's Event Center - Lincoln

First off, Dionne Warwick is an absolute treasure. In spite of having a wicked cold and a bad day with her foot, she started right on time at the stroke of 8. Her cold made her voice a bit scratchy at times which she apologised for ahead of time, but she still sang beautifully. Her band of musicians was incredible! Loved that she has reimagined/updated some of her songs for a more contemporary audience. Five Stars for her! The crowd at the show was a different story. People were completely without respect for the performance they were witnessing, arriving as much as 45 minutes after the lights went down. Not only were they late, but they caused loud distraction as they shuffled to their seats. Two incredibly rude people behind us had moved into seats assigned to late comers, and caused an argument when they would not return to their ticketed seats, all of this while Dionne was performing. More alarming, was the disturbances were being caused by the older demographic in the audience, who should know better. The youth in the audience we observed were well behaved, the complete opposite of the message Dionne sent out to her fans describing the actions of unruly youth since the pandemic. She had to hush the crowd a number of times as she was trying to speak. Cellphone activity was rampant! Guests were constantly turning on their phone flashlights, recording every number and holding their phones high over their heads, blocking the audience behind them. Loud conversations and laughing drowned out the music for the people around them. We still managed to enjoy the concert, but I can't say I will ever see another event at this venue. Dionne ended the concert early I think because of her cold, but more likely because of the horrible, rude, unappreciative crowd she was attempting to entertain. How unfortunate.
