About

Ever since the release of their 2008 EP Chunk of Change, Passion Pit’s unique brand of indietronica has appealed to fans of both indie rock and electronic dance music, generating heaps of praise from those bastions of hipster cred otherwise known as music blogs. With the release of sophomore album Gossamer in 2012, the band kept crowds moving with a collection of ambitious and impeccably produced gems like “Take a Walk” and “Constant Conversations,” earning the album a No. 4 position on the Billboard 200. Passion Pit originated as the solo project of frontman Michael Angelakos, who penned the project’s first songs for his girlfriend before enlisting some of his classmates from Berklee College of Music to start a group. The band’s debut full-length Manners (2009) received praise from critics and bloggers for its catchy and danceable songs, including breakthrough single “Sleepyhead” and kaleidoscopic electro hit “The Reeling.” On tour in 2013, Passion Pit has been treating fans to high-octane live performances that perfectly capture the spirit of their sparkling pop anthems.

  • Passion Pit was fantastic!

by Shavonneda on 9/10/13Hudson River Park - Pier 26 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Easily one of the best shows I've been to. The intimacy of the show made for a great experience, the lights and effects were awesome, and the band sounded incredible. I would completely recommend this band to a friend.

Best concert- can't wait to see them again. They were so good and sound even better in person.

Was overall very enjoyable, but too much time passed between the opener and PP.

Passion Pit put on a remarkable live performance. Best Coast (opening act) was great as well, despite the audience's cold reaction.

The show was stellar. The music sounded spot on and the lighting was killer. The vocals were killer. I would see them again in a heartbeat.

  • SCREAMING TEENAGE GIRLS!

by Skedder on 9/9/13Hudson River Park - Pier 26 - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I guess it is on me that I was unaware of Michael Angelakos being such a sex symbol to teenage girls. I just like the music. It was tight up in front, but Michael was full of energy, having no problem whipping the young crowd into a frenzy. The Passion Pit songbook is a nice size and virtually every song in concert was a winner. Virtually every song was a sing-a-long with the crowd, but I generally like to decide for myself when to clap rather than being told. That said, Michael was generally humble thanking the crowd after every song and telling all of us that New York are the best fans (take that Boston!).

This show was ahhhmazzzing! I wasn't too excited at first because I was worried about all the work I had to do for class but once the show started I forgot about all of that. Passion Pit put together an extremely awesome show and I'm glad I came.

  • Amazing Show at an Amazing Venue

by emmybnj on 9/9/13Hudson River Park - Pier 26 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Even if Passion Pit completely sucked, t his show would have rocked purely as a result of the incredible NYC views and incredible visuals that Hudson River Park has. Luckily, Passion Pit didn't suck, but rather gave a performance to remember, with incredible sounds, lights, stories, crowd interaction, and more. Overall, at the end of the night my cheeks hurt from smiling and singing so much!!!

Pier 26 is an awesome venue for a concert - you see the water and the sky line and it's not too crowded. Passion Pit's performance was on point. Overall amazing night.

  • MAGICAL

by Joceybaby on 9/9/13Hudson River Park - Pier 26 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was to die for, the weather was perfect, and the concert was everything you could ever wish for in a snow. The sun was setting when Best Coast started. Passion Pit's light show was phenomenal. And the band was so into it! Absolutely recommended.

  • Passion Pit is Ridiculous.

by lindsayawesome on 9/9/13Hudson River Park - Pier 26 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first show at Hudson River Park, its not only a gorgeous venue in a sweet little spot on the west side, but in the middle of passion pit's set the September 11th memorial beam of light turned on. Who could ask for a more epic moment during a concert? They are so good live, I have seen them 5 times and it always worth every cent. Thanks for another great show guys.

Passion Pit always puts a lot into their shows and you never leave disappointed!

  • Not recommended if you don't care for new album

    by 1rrp on 6/20/13Compuware Arena - PlymouthRating: 3 out of 5

Perhaps this review is useless because I love their first two albums and don't care for the newest. Nevertheless, I was unhappy by the fact that they barely played anything from Chunk of Change, which is amazing, and played everything from Gossamer. Probably will not see them again if that's how they preform. Pretty cool special effects, like the bubbles at the end.

  • And I thought they'd be better this time..

    by cjones26 on 6/17/13The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 2 out of 5

This is the second time I've seen Passion Pit at the Fillmore. Unfortunately, the venue is incredibly over priced and 2 decent beers costs nearly $25 (not even including tip). Doors opened for the show at 7:30 PM with the opening band of Cults. Usually I'm not one for the opening bands, so my girlfriend and I decided to go grab some beers at VBGBs until the opener had finished playing. In my previous experiences at the Fillmore (Flaming Lips, and Passion Pit as well!) didn't even come on stage until 9:00 PM or after. When we arrived, they had already been playing for ~20 minutes so we missed the first 3-4 songs. The first time I saw Passion Pit was last year in October of 2012--they had cancelled their July show due to Michael's personal issues and it was rescheduled for then. That show was no good (which I hoped was only due to whatever issues the lead singer had been experiencing), therefore, I decided to give them a second chance--awful idea! The volume was far too quiet and the crowd seemed aloof and a bit disappointed...all in all, I love Passion Pit, but they don't seem to be a crowd pleasing live band. I'll stick to listening to their studio recordings until they can learn how to play Cuddle Fuddle live.

The venue was very nice and clean. The event staff seemed very organized and aware. My only complaint is just how small the venue is and it filled up so quickly that because it was general admission, you were locked into your place the whole night and could not move. Passion Pit was great and engaging!

  • Great band, short set, not feeling the Fillmore

    by muppy34 on 6/15/13The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

Awesome show, but a bit short. And I hate to say it, but the venue definitely put a serious damper on the experience. Disappointed that the venue was changed from the adjoining ampitheater to this indoor basement-feeling space. I will not purchase future tickets for any band if inside the Fillmore.
