About

Ever since the release of their 2008 EP Chunk of Change, Passion Pit’s unique brand of indietronica has appealed to fans of both indie rock and electronic dance music, generating heaps of praise from those bastions of hipster cred otherwise known as music blogs. With the release of sophomore album Gossamer in 2012, the band kept crowds moving with a collection of ambitious and impeccably produced gems like “Take a Walk” and “Constant Conversations,” earning the album a No. 4 position on the Billboard 200. Passion Pit originated as the solo project of frontman Michael Angelakos, who penned the project’s first songs for his girlfriend before enlisting some of his classmates from Berklee College of Music to start a group. The band’s debut full-length Manners (2009) received praise from critics and bloggers for its catchy and danceable songs, including breakthrough single “Sleepyhead” and kaleidoscopic electro hit “The Reeling.” On tour in 2013, Passion Pit has been treating fans to high-octane live performances that perfectly capture the spirit of their sparkling pop anthems.

  • Great but short!

by CastABlueStone on 4/1/10Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Here's the deal: The concert was unbelievably great, but a) it was almost an hour between the opener and Passion Pit, and b) they played for less time than it took to set them up (49 minutes)

  • Amazing Show

by GinaPuccetti on 4/1/10Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I had heard that Passion Pit was really good live but the concert definitely exceeded my expectations. I loved every second of it. They are truely amazing and better live than on any CD. Keep up the good work :) Loved all of the lights as well.

  • Pit O' Passion

by KoLover on 4/1/10Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

AWESOME! I had no idea they would be so talented! He can carry his voice even better live! I thought for sure that the recordings had been fixed here and there. NO wayyyyyyy. His vocals are spot on! And the energy was ridiculous! After the show I got a chance to meet them as well. Very down to earth guys, appreciative of the positive feedback I had given them. They told me it was their 4th show in 4 days and they didn't seem in anyway tired, over it, or exhausted. They came out and gave everybit of themselves to their fans. I will most definately be seeing this band again!

  • Passion Pit was the sh*t!

by ScottieByNature on 4/1/10Lifestyle Communities Pavilion - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

The best way to describe the Passion Pit show is simply a lot of fun. Their music is so vibrant and infectious that you can't help but have a good time. This atmosphere of fun was enforced by the fact that the band members themselves seemed to be truly enjoying what they were doing. Evidently it's an unwritten rule that there be glow sticks for their shows, because as soon as Passion Pit hit the stage, handfuls of glow sticks came flying from random groups of audience... that was pretty cool. Will definitely try to check them out again if they come back to town... hopefully by that time they'll have a little more material and give us a bit longer of a set.

  • Not special.

by Anonymous on 4/1/10Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

I have more fun dancing in my car to passion pit than I did dancing at this show. I was really bummed... maybe my expectations were too high. They did nothing special during the set, and they didn't engage with the audience at all. It was like listening to the record play, all while being super crowded.

  • Passion Pit is the Shit.

by krisv on 4/1/10Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing Passion Pit live (even though it was their second trip to the Capital City). They played every song from their Manners album, plus a couple from their Chunk of Change EP (Smile Upon Me, I've Got Your Number). Every song played sounded so much better than the album versions. The crowd was emphatically enthusiastic, dancing and moving with the beat, never letting up. PP even covered a Cranberries hit, Dreams; which they played superbly. Two acts opened for PP, BearHands from Brooklyn and Mayor Hawthorne and The County. BearHands was excellent–highly recommend a listen. MH&TC on the other hand, from Detroit, siphoned the Motown jive that is classic to the city, but performed it in a way that I did not enjoy (Next song!). All in all, a great show and definitely grab a ticket next time they're around you.

This show is definitely in my top 5 of all time. I saw Passion Pit not too long ago when they played at Mohawk Place. It was almost like they were a completely different band. If you haven't seen this band live, I suggest you do! I can't wait until they put out a new album.
