About

Ever since the release of their 2008 EP Chunk of Change, Passion Pit’s unique brand of indietronica has appealed to fans of both indie rock and electronic dance music, generating heaps of praise from those bastions of hipster cred otherwise known as music blogs. With the release of sophomore album Gossamer in 2012, the band kept crowds moving with a collection of ambitious and impeccably produced gems like “Take a Walk” and “Constant Conversations,” earning the album a No. 4 position on the Billboard 200. Passion Pit originated as the solo project of frontman Michael Angelakos, who penned the project’s first songs for his girlfriend before enlisting some of his classmates from Berklee College of Music to start a group. The band’s debut full-length Manners (2009) received praise from critics and bloggers for its catchy and danceable songs, including breakthrough single “Sleepyhead” and kaleidoscopic electro hit “The Reeling.” On tour in 2013, Passion Pit has been treating fans to high-octane live performances that perfectly capture the spirit of their sparkling pop anthems.

  • Matt & Kim > Passion Pit

    by hans53706 on 2/25/13Orpheum Theater - MadisonRating: 4 out of 5

I bought tickets to the event because I knew of all three bands and knew several songs from each band. I had heard that Passion Pit wasn't great at performing but had no notion of what to expect from the other bands. I noticed that Icona Pop could use some refining in their performance but the music was great and watching them work the soundboard on stage was fascinating. Matt & Kim definitely stole the show. Not only did they perform fantastically but they talked to the audience and formed a connection with everyone in the room. Kim, despite having an injured ankle, put on an ankle brace, crowd surfed, stood on the hands of her fans, and twerked. Having to follow such an act, Passion Pit definitely let the crowd down. They had the largest set of songs including songs from their newest album and older singles but there was a sense that this was just another performance for them. In fact, the members of the band didn't look to be having much fun. Overall, I would recommend the show to anyone who knows any of the performers. It was well worth the trek in the middle of winter.

The show was amazing and fun! Everyone was really high energy and Icona Pop, Matt and Kim and Passion Pit were all great!

  • Passion Pit totally rocked their show in Chi town!

by Anonymous on 2/25/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

By far the best concert i have ever been to! They not only played songs from their new album but they played their best hits from previous albums! Not only was the music sung and played fantastically (exactly like their album recordings) but their stage presence was fun and energetic! The stage effects were awesome too with the moving overhead balls and changing colors...definitely brought more energy to the concert but wasnt too over the top. I totally loved the encore song (old song from previous album) and paper explosion at the end! Passion Pit totally killed it!

Passion Pit always exceeds my expectations and for this show Icona Pop, but especially Matt & Kim, were absolutely excellent. I've not seen M&K before, but would go again next time they were in town for sure.

  • Such a high energy show

    by Keys85 on 2/25/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

All three performances were so high-energy and fantastic. Passion Pit was much more upbeat, loud, and fast than I thought they would be. Matt and Kim brought the same A-Game they had as headliners, and Icona Pop got the crowd going with some great numbers. The sound was pretty sub-par . We could barely make out any of the lyrics any of the performers were singing. If we didn't know the lyrics we would've had no idea what they were singing.

even though I was pretty much in the last seat of the Pavillion, the concert was 10 times more amazing than I could have asked for. First of all I had never heard of Icona Pop before, and I had heard their song was the theme song for J-Wow and Snooki, so can you blame me for being skeptical? They completely changed my mind after they started playing!! Second of all I love Matt & Kim; I had been to a concert of theirs before and thoroughly enjoyed myself. They are such a blast and there is never a dull moment. Lastly, the main event- Passion Pit! "Little Secrets" has been my favorite song for the past five years and they thought they could leave without playing it, but they came back and finished with it strong. that is all.

I would def recommend go seeing this show! First off, Matt and Kim were hilarious and so high energy. Second, the music was fantastic. And third, their lighting was entertainment alone, it was so cool. Best concert I've ever been to. I just saw them 2 days ago and I'm ready to see them again!!!!

  • great concert...people need to lighten up though

    by concerto0123456 on 2/24/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Matt and Kim was a great opener, and as always, put on an awesome show. No negative things to say about any of the bands. I was worried that sound quality wouldn't be so great after seeing Death Cab at UIC and the sound being terrible. This time around, I didn't notice and liked what I heard. What I did notice....is that there were way too many uptight high school girls that acted like this was the first concert they've ever been to. If you're going to see a band like passion pit and stand within 20 feet of the stage you should expect to get shoved around a little bit. Was a huge turn-off as there were so many uptight energy suckers here. Other than that, it was an excellent time.

  • Passion Pit concert is a dance party

    by Baxter89 on 2/24/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Great experience! Openers were Matt and Kim, who I never listened to but were really fun. Passion Pit performed without much talking or extras which made it more of a dance party feel. Of course the edition of cool balloons, lights. bubbles, and confetti helped. The crowd was interesting and what you might expect (some wannabe hipster college freshman) but really good time. I would see them again in a heartbeat.

  • Passion Pit is my passion

by cookiemnsterluv on 2/24/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic. I had never seen Icona Pop or heard of them for that matter before this concert and they rocked out completely. Matt and Kim were good as well, I love some of their songs but Kim could stand on her drum less :P. Passion Pit was fantastic, the set up was so cool and the music was just as good, if not totally better seeing it live than it is in my headphones. The experience was unforgettable and the crowds were not ridiculously rude and the lines were doable. Chalk one up for UIC Pavilion and the set list for the Galaxy Tour!

Passion Pit rocked! It was such a fun/happy show at the perfect venue! I'd highly recommend seeing them.

  • Passion Pit was INSANE!!

    by Michael1234521234 on 2/24/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 5th time seeing Passion Pit, one in which was Lollapalooza this last summer. They are amazing and Michael is the man! Their music just makes you dance and feel good. I love Passion Pit, they are my favorite band and I would see them a million more times. They play one of the best live shows around.

  • Awesome COncert

    by Mitz22 on 2/24/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Great night, great music. These bands rocked it! Packed place being sold out-fun!

  • by Anonymous on 2/24/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Icono pop, Matt & Kim, and Passion Pit put on extremely entertaining performances that would have been even better except the acoustics in the balcony of the UIC Pavilion were a bit off. That said, I can't wait to see any of these bands the next time they pass through!

  • A great time

    by Kaci1326 on 2/24/13UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Passion pit and Matt and Kim both impressed me with their live performances. They really engaged the crowd and had lots of people dancing. I can't wait to see them live again.

I thought this show was mediocre. The sound at UIC Pavillion is really poor. The venue is huge. I got pretty bored with the set and left several songs in with no regrets. I really do love Passion Pit, but not live. It's nothing special.
