    Weak lineup but well organized

by tardonfeathered on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

I essentially went to see My Morning Jacket who hadn't been in the bay area for almost two years. The event was very professionally produced, the food selection was exceptional and I really liked the emphasis on composting and recycling but outside of MMJ and the Dead revival I didn't think the lineup was anything close to the two years prior.

Nice day, but no VIP treatment!

by Cabking on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

The event made for a very nice day, but the extra VIP upcharge proved a poor cost-to-benefit add on. If I went back, I would definitely go general admission. Levon Helms Band set was great, Further played very well although the song choice was a bit morose, My Morning Jacket rocked but was ultimately somewhat forgettable, and Gogol Bordello were very entertaining and energetic. WineLands bar was very nice, indeed, but the dining was hit-or-miss.

Freelance whales were awesome! I wish I could have found a booth that was selling their cd. Cat power was soothing after a long day of walking and all of the venues were really cool!

    Outerlands

by Anonymous on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

We went to the first one, skipped the next one...then only attended one day of this one. The scaled down version was much better...less walking. As for the line up--weak. Furthur was amazing..played for over 2 hours. My Yellow Jacket...or whatever they are called (worst name for a band!) ended up blowing my mind. They totally jammed. A lot of stuff was a total rip off!!! The wine tastings-went before and liked it...but this time it was 2$ for one taste. And you were forced to buy 10$ blocks of tickets. What the hell? But there was the biggest rip off of them all...the water. They were trying to force you to buy this water bottle for 15$...then buy refills for 1$. Maybe they haven't heard of the depression, mass unemployment and foreclosures. Water should be free and everywhere to prevent drunk people from dehydration. That would be the RESPONIBLE thing to do. I have a feeling that there will be no Outerlands next year, unless the economy makes a big come back.

My Morning Jacket & Further- great sound quality

by theoend on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

I was really impressed with the sound system for the only 2 shows I heard, My Morning Jacket and Further. I had heard My Morning Jacket at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, and left early because the sound was so muddy and over-amplified. At the polo field it was crystal clear and I really enjoyed JIm James' vocals and John Kadlecik's beautiful guitar playing. Bobby sure looks and sounds good these days too.

    Strokes were amazing

by mrcolortvjr on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

the whole lineup was pretty good, but all in all it was worth it for wolfmother, and the strokes. When i got there, Pretty lights was playing and it was unbelievably good. Unfortunately, I missed the freelance whales :(

    THE STROKES

by Peruvianalex on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

The Strokes made the show. I don't even know if Further had a crowd watching them :P

    Furthur

by baumer on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

Furthur put on an amazing show. They are playing so well together and were sounding great. The energy was high with the crowd and everyone seemed to be loving it.

MMJ and Furthur @ Outside Lands

by Sasquatchh2o on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

Only caught these two acts, but compared to the first year (skipped last year) this event is much improved (though they need a better and cheaper beer selection). MMJ appears to have plateaued, but they still rocked the socks off the crowd. Furthur - in the old Dead tradition - was at times pretty loose, but played an eclectic setlist and at times (see deadheadland or other for details) was on fire...also rocking the socks off the appreciative crowd. That said, crowd was pretty tame for a "Dead" show...though it could have been the long day or the relative sobriety of the crowd. No cheers during "the bus came by..." or other typically anthemic-crowd enthusiasm inducing moments"...but they did dance their booties off for most of the show. Of course Bobby had to flub big time on an epic Terrapin, but the old coot was in pretty good form overall. Bathroom lines were...long, food and beverages were expensive....recycling was obvious ( a ++), security was not overbearing, but very present on the outskirts...parking was a big ? We parked at the beach and enjoyed the walk back, though we'd already been on our feet for 6 hours.

    Stage problems?

by dubedude on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

Some varying sound quality issues. Could barely hear Cat Power, did you guys turn down the sound for some reason. Also, the lighting on the stages was pathetic - could not even see some of the musicians, and the one spot light was aimed at the drummer. The lead singers had to keep moving over to that spotlight to be seen. On the plus side: Food was good, lots of choices - people serving were very courteous. The DJ booth could have been three times the size to accommodate more people, but was very cool. I loved that management set up the recycling of garbage. It was a good event, lots of musical variety, and quality acts. I would go again.
