    Outside Lands

by vlbraun on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

I loved the line-up for the 2010 Outside Lands event! I especially loved Phoenix, Amos Lee, Slightly Stoopid, Kings of Leon and the DJ tents. The weather was great on Sunday, with the cleared fog and finally some San Francisco sun! I loved the metal statues as well. My only complaint is that I wish that there was more bleacher seating and less bands playing at the same time. I don't know if it works to go between so many stages all day. It may be better to have 2 stages (Polo Field Lands End and Polo Field Sutro) and have people move around there. For me, I would rather see a few awesome bands, then have 28 bands (plus tent DJs) and have to run around all day. In past years, t-shirts were made for women, however this year, many t-shirts were unisex and also sold-out in small or extra-small too quickly. I would have bought more merchandise if my size was available. All in all, great idea and thanks for bringing these bands to San Francisco! I was so happy to see Phoenix all the way from France and to see the lead singer interact so much with the crowd. :)

    Magical***

by TIbets on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

It was great to be at such an awesome 2 day event. I felt like a VIP with all the free stuff and up close standing spots next to the stage (and my tickets were not VIP). The only thing is that all the food is overpriced and there are tons of people, but those things were expected. The Beautiful golden gate park is the perfect venue for such an awesome selection of bands. The four stages allowed fo you to jump around to your favorite bands and we tried out a lot of new bands that we have never heard before and they were AMAZING! I suggest listening to one or 2 songs before you go to the concert and planning your schedule, and go a little early for the ones you really like and know are going to be crowded. It was a fun filled 2 days! We brought in our own food so that we didnt have to pay for it and it worked out fine. They have lots of alcohol there if you want to drink too. I suggest getting there early so that you can go around to all the booths and see what they offer. ENJOY!

Outside Lands, too much to do....

by agnessonora on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

It is hard to complain that a show or event offered too much, but that's the case. There were just too many interesting things to be able to visit and do justice to them all. The music was amazing, but there were just too many great choices on too many different stages.

    Solid performances :)

by meglovesKOL on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

I have gone to the Outside Lands Music Festival for the past three years. The headlining acts ALWAYS deliver stellar performances, and the supporting acts are awesome too! KOL, Phoenix, Al Green, Temper Trap, Social D were my favorites acts at this years festival. I love the environment and vibes that OL has to offer, it's very chill and kick back. They always have a good variety of food and drink too. I always tell my friends about this festival and how they should attend. I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE :) Always a successful time at Outside Lands.

Excellent line up! Al Green was hillarious and such a showman. Temper Trap was phenomenal for an up and coming. Phoenix sounded better than I've ever heard them and Kings of Leon rocked my socks off at the end with a killer set, great black and white video and an amazing set. Fantastic food. Cool DJ tent by intel. Not much to complain about.

THANK YOU for Electric Six. They are one of a kind. Pretty fun line-up overall but GG Park sucks. Move it somewhere with more parking or better public transportation. -Peace

Great experience with room for improvement

by violetgirl2 on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

My son and I attended the Sunday's concert. It was great fun, beautiful venue, friendly people, and the bands are beyond expectation. We had a wonderful time. One suggestion though, the toilet situation leaves room for improvement. lines are too long. facility could use more frequent service. We plan to go again next year. thank you.

    Al Green is the man!

by tjb9 on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

All in all, this was a quality production. The food was pretty good, some of it very good. The music was definitely varied, from Al Green and his daughters, etc, to Social D (who rocked as usual), to Janelle Monae (the only act we saw that was late - due to a delayed airplane earlier - everything else started spot on time), to Phoenix, Kings of Leon and Temper Trap. The sound quality was pretty good. They had enough shitters that there were never long lines, but wow, drunk people are assholes by the end of the day putting non-crap in the porta - potties. And that immaturity carried over to the trash scene in general...despite a champion effort by organizers to compost and recycle, there was trash EVERYWHERE by the end of the weekend. I'm sure that it is clean now, but this may be one of the reasons that tickets cost so much, because it takes a huge staff to pick up! The corporate sponsorship was wayyy too obvious and off-putting. Nice water refill program. I would go again.

format and stage location changes awesome

by bordello on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

I specially found the location of sutro and main stage convenient with the performers of both stages varied and excellent. We spent time between both stages going from one performance to the other and found the transitions quick and without the frightening trampling feeling from the past years when sutro was located elsewhere. We were also able to visit the other stages because of other performances that were original like Beats Antique. I felt that there were enough varied performers to satisfy the different ages that seem very pronounced this year. I also felt that the Strokes fans were a bit more aggressive and rude than the fans from the previous two years. I wasn't particularly impressed by the Strokes; they were good but as far as live entertainment were pretty dull or at least seemed to think too much of themselves. I thought the Intel Room was a bit like a futuristic drug bar. It was very entertaining but I couldn't quite understand the concept of what they were trying to do. All I got from it was a great place to rest (their sofas were really comfy) and space out. The blue haired girls with their white suits the big screen of unrelated, illogical images, the leggos and etch a sketch, the liquid oxygen in vials, the air bar and beer bar.... it's a futuristic drug bar where you can get a fix and space out. Great insight into the future. The food is excellent in the festival. Overall, I think we are getting better in planning which bands to see and how to accomplish it; and I think as long as Outside Lands brings in awesome bands like Gogol Bordello (the best performers for Saturday), we will keep coming back. Great Job Outside Lands!!

    Outside lands (Hippiefest)

by Rachelism on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

The Strokes were orgasmic. The festival was average. Lots of free giveaways. plenty of sweepstakes to enter. But well worth the headlining bands! Pretty chill. I recommend street parking, as you will be walking most of the day (It wont hurt to walk a few more blocks to save some money!) Bring comfortable shoes and a warm sweater for the night. An overall fun event and the Strokes made it spectacular.

    Unbelievable

by Anonymous on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

This was the best two days of my adult life. The artists were fantastic, the venue is both idyllic and chock full of everything you could ever want. The wine is great, the food is delicious. This place is pricey, but it is well worth it. I will remember my summer internship in SF largely from this weekend. Amazing.

    My Outside Lands experience

by Quin2013 on 8/16/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

Though there where many unknown bands I've never heard of, I was pleasantly surprised to had enjoyed the majority of the music that was played this year. DJ Dan was just amazing! Pretty Lights was off the hook! Rebirth was just so freaking awesome. Missed Wolf Mother because of bad scheduling. They had Wolfmother and Beats antique playing at the same time. BAD!!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOO Personally, Al Green really disappointed me with his half ass set. He kept cutting off songs, talked more then he sang, and sang other people's music rather then his own. What a waste of money. The scheduling must be handed over to some one with a bit more music knowledge because you can't have two awesome bands playing at the same time; Sunday August 15th 2010 Social distortion @ 6:55pm - 7:45pm & Nas & Damien "Jr. Gong" Marley 6:50pm-7:40pm. really bad planning on their behalf. I lost out because of their bad decision and planning, BOOOOOOO!!! Beside that, I loved everything else except for all the garbage people left behind. TERRIBLE!! I give it a 4 out of 5 due to Al Green & the bad scheduling.

I attended Saturday, primarily to see Furthur but also was interested in Pimps of Joytime, Cat Power and Levon Helm and any band that captured my attention. The sound was good, music interesting, fun and dynamic but the logistics were a bit off. The restrooms were such a hike, I missed a lot of music just walking to a fro (from the main stage), which was a bummer. Perhaps, I overlooked some along the way? I love beer and was profoundly disappointed Heineken had a monopoly on this event. With such a wide variety of wines to pick why wasn't the same consideration given to beer choices? Heineken? Give me a break! Sierra Nevada and/or Lagunitas; something yummy that makes us happy AND supports our local economy would be optimal. With such a limited beer choices, you think the restroom situation wouldn't be a factor for me! Thank you for putting on this fun event! I look forward to next year. :-)

    Wolfmother

by rnrdr on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

Excellent set from these guys. I sensed a Doors influence early in the set and was knocked out when the ripped into a classic Riders On the Storm for a few minutes and later gave Babo O'Reily a shot and kicked it out of the spacious surroundings ( not enough people were there to see this). These guys are a fantastic live act and in a smaller room would be amazing I'm sure.

    Fantastic Lineup

by shagwell on 8/15/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

Overall, I was able to see 5 acts without any overlaps (Pretty Lights, Gogol Bordello, Bassnectar, Wolfmother, and the Strokes). Each artist was absolutely brilliant and the crowd was amazing. Fighting was at a minimum, dancing was at a maximum. The Strokes as the headliner was the icing on the cake. After the set I had to scoop my face off the effin' ground because Julian Casablancas melted it off!
