Orlando City SC History

Orlando City entered the league for the 2015 season, signing former Ballon d'Or winner Kaká to be the team’s first designated player. The veteran Kaká was paired with Canadian rookie Cyle Larin, who scored 17 goals in 27 games during his debut campaign, a new record for MLS rookies. Larin won Rookie of the Year honors for the 2015 season, which saw Orlando barely miss the playoffs by just one point in the stacked Eastern Conference.

Taking over in 2019 as head coach, Óscar Pareja led the club to its first playoff qualification in 2020 and guided Orlando City to their first trophy as a team in 2022, winning the U.S. Open Cup Final. In 2023, the team placed as runners-up for the Supporters’ Shield.

Great time at Orlando City game!

by OtownGuy on 8/15/13Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

I've never heard anybody say anything good about the Citrus Bowl. I was expecting smoldering pits, children in tattered clothes begging and rusted, jagged steel. Yes, it's outdated, but the experience of seeing a soccer game in the stadium was really, quite good. Seeing a soccer game was also a first for me and I had a great time. They did a great job of creating a party atmosphere around the stadium and the field looks like it's well cared for. There were a couple things that will keep me from coming back often and those couple things are $ and $. I bought two of the the cheapest tickets to the game I could find: $42, I paid $10 to park and $18 + $2 tip for two beers for a grand total of $72. Maybe that's a cheap night out for some, but it's not for me. I'll go again, but I can't afford to go often enough to really feel like I'm supporting the team. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but nothing chaps my nads more than paying admission (Disney, Orange Co Convention Ctr, Citrus Bowl) and then having to shell out more money to park in their own parking log. That is simply someone taking advantage of me and telling me that my business isn't really that valuable to them. Booo! BOOOOOO!

    AMAZING!

by Orlandoan on 7/28/13Citrus Bowl - Orlando

Great night and so much fun for a great price! the fans behind the goal are crazy and really passionate! It was a high scoring match and Orlando City SC plays at a high level and are ready for MLS. The atmosphere was great, nonstop chanting and drums beating! I will be returning and I will be sitting behind the goal! GO CITY

Orlando City games NOT for families with children

by Anonymous on 7/21/13Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

This was our first Orlando City Soccer game and my kids and I were all very excited. We arrived early to enjoy the pre-game entertainment and all purchased OC shirts and hats as we expected to become frequent fans. When you take your family to a sporting event you expect to hear a certain amount of foul language from fans. This is (unfortunately) normal. But Orlando City games take it much further than that. The "Supporters Section" is located at one end of the stadium. There is a very energetic group of fans that chant, sing, and make noise throughout the game. Most of the chanting is only vaguely understandable. But after every goal kick from the opposing team there is a very clear synchronized yell of "You suck, a--hole!" Some other reviews suggest to avoid this by just sitting in another section. But there is *NO* way to avoid this. We were sitting in the "Family Section" which is on the opposite end of the stadium. The chant is very audible throughout the entire stadium. And it's not just once or twice--it happens many times throughout the game. I finally got up and complained to the staff member posted at the Family Section. He just laughed and said that they do it every game. When I persisted he said I could "look for a supervisor" (someone with a radio). I found a supervisor and he was very polite and understanding--but he somewhat embarrassedly explained to me that they are not allowed to do anything because the Orlando City Soccer Club permits this behaviour. I went back to my seat for a few minutes. But after a couple more occurrences I finally had enough and we left around half-time. It's really a shame, too. Otherwise the game would have been very enjoyable. The level of play is extremely good--Orlando City is ready to compete in the MLS. Other soccer teams have taken steps to limit this kind of behaviour. Orlando deserves better than this.

Game well played, crowd badly managed

by KacyP on 7/1/13Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

I will say first off, there was quality soccer played on field. That being said, being a fan is not for young ears. There is no control over the behavior of the Supporter Groups and the language and behavior was difficult to handle having taken small children to the game. Admin apparently chooses to simply warn of impending offensiveness, suggests sitting farther away, but not attempt to curb it in any way. Be forewarned - drunken, disrespectful obnoxiousness abounds. If you're into that, and have a frat-boy mentality at heart...enjoy.

International Friendlies are triple the fun

by Cristof5 on 6/25/13Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

Love any Orlando Lions game, but playing top competition from other countries brings different fans and a more rowdy atmosphere. Totally awesome time!

    Orlando City vs. Fluminense FC

by maxrx on 6/24/13Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

I was expecting this to be a blow out and an embarrassment to Orlando City. BUT to my surprise OC scored first and played an exceptional game from start to finish. The result was 4 - 3 and Fluminense was lucky to get out with a victory. I was also impressed with how OC played when they got down 4 to 1 - many times in this situation the flood gates open but not to be. They were sharp, fought back and now they have a fan. I look forward to going to their home games and am now an OC fan!

    Orlando City Soccer is awesome!

by Gebrucilassie on 5/27/13Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

I have followed the Lion's for a while but never made a game. Saturday's game against the Hammerheads was great! The fans are loud and truly got into the game. The pre game atmosphere was electric. I will definitely be going to more games in the future (work schedule permitting) If you have not gone to a game, bring the family and expect to have a great time!

First Time for Me, NOT the Last!!!

by ChefBran on 4/29/13Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

This was my first Orlando City Game. My wife was a big Soccor fan in the past and i have never follwed that much. We went and had a INCREDABLE time! we had great seats right on the player side close to the South Goal. TIP- For and over the top time try to seat in section 119-121. thats where the "real fans" sit. But don't sit there if you have small children..... they can get a bit rowdy.

    Stellar Soccer Game

by almacorazon on 3/11/13Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

The seats were great, and the game was great! The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the concession stand line caused me to miss a goal (there were some employees ordering twenty or so cheeseburgers). Definitely recommend Orlando City Lions and MLS.

    Great Game, bad seating experience.

by Mathjoel on 7/30/12Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

I enjoyed the game. My issue is with the seating. When I got to my seat, there were several people already in the area. I was told by those occupying the seats that the entire section was general admission seating. I ended up getting a decent seat, but it was not the one I paid for. Also the seat was near one of the supporter's groups. Several of their songs/cheers included regular use of crude language. If you are planning on bringing a child to one of the games, do not sit in the end zone sections.
