Orlando City SC History

Orlando City entered the league for the 2015 season, signing former Ballon d'Or winner Kaká to be the team’s first designated player. The veteran Kaká was paired with Canadian rookie Cyle Larin, who scored 17 goals in 27 games during his debut campaign, a new record for MLS rookies. Larin won Rookie of the Year honors for the 2015 season, which saw Orlando barely miss the playoffs by just one point in the stacked Eastern Conference.

Taking over in 2019 as head coach, Óscar Pareja led the club to its first playoff qualification in 2020 and guided Orlando City to their first trophy as a team in 2022, winning the U.S. Open Cup Final. In 2023, the team placed as runners-up for the Supporters’ Shield.

Orlando City SC at Inter&Co Stadium (Formerly Exploria Stadium)

As MLS grew in 2010, Orlando was granted one of the league's expansion teams. The city set about building a brand-new soccer-specific stadium for the incoming team, Orlando City SC, which began play in 2015 at the nearby Citrus Bowl. Inter&Co Stadium, known as Orlando City Stadium until 2019 and as Exploria Stadium until January 2024, became the team’s new home pitch in 2017. Champions!!!!!

by airborne5484 on 9/20/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

We played a man down after our goalie of the year was red-carded and won on penalty kicks. This was the most dramatic sporting event I have ever witnessed in person and pulled on so many emotions. These guys are the real deal!

    Another Spectacular Win!

by airborne5484 on 8/27/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

The crowd was even louder than last time and the game went into extra time. We scored in both periods and made it that much closer to winning it all!

The future of sport in Orlando

by reevesarmy on 8/23/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

What we have here is where sport is going in Orlando. Orlando City has provided a high level of entertainment for its fans. It's time for more people to come and see what they're missing. A regular season soccer match only takes two hours. Period. And a playoff match where overtime is possible won't take longer than three hours. It won't be extended infinitely by dragged-out timeouts, at-bats or intentional fouls. Don't be fooled by the relatively small score lines. They come to play, and there is very little let-up in the action. As I write this, the Lions are advancing in the playoffs, and they have home-field, so the two possible remaining matches will be here. Give it a shot. You will not be disappointed.

    Winners!

by airborne5484 on 8/20/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

Some of the "B" team players were in and they still crushed Harrisburg City, it's a fun atmosphere and cheap. Hopefully there will be more followers in the future!

    Orlando City Soccer

by Highc999 on 7/26/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

Me and my daughter attended the Orlando City vs. Newcastle United (English Premier League) soccer game. It was great event and the best time I have ever had at the Florida Citrus Bowl. The only issue I have is the gate (only one that we were aware of) opened rather late. We got there early to enjoy the atmosphere but had to stand in line for 45 minutes or so. No big deal but it would have been better to be in the stadium during that time.

    Match great, venue organization poor

by Zeffron on 7/25/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

As a Newcastle United fan living in the US, the chances to see them live are few and far between. So this pre season game in Orlando was a change I couldn't miss. First the good stuff. The match itself went about as I expected with Newcastle looking a little rusty and disorganized against an Orlando side that was in giant killing mood. There where occasional glimpses of an EPL side but it looks like the manager has a long way to go to reorganize the side after the loss of some key players this year. Orlando created numerous chances and finally scored a deserved goal in the 76th minute to win the match. Now the bad stuff. While the Orlando Citrus bowl is a large stadium, it feels like it was put together by a badly run committee and then run by that same group. Parking is poor around the stadium and was not helped by the organizer's pushing car's into only one area at a time until that area was full, then getting everyone to move along to the next area. To be fair the stadium does not look like it's in the best part of town but for a stadium that size the parking was really poor. And then came the queues outside the ticket office and entrance of several thousand people, some of whom where still getting into the game 30 minutes into the first half. Again to be fair this was by far the largest crowd they have ever had before by around 3000-4000 fans but they could have been better prepared knowing the following behind Newcastle United. One final point, I was not impressed by the so called Orlando City fans, who demonstrated their lack of intelligence by throwing streamers onto the pitch around the goal throughout the entire matching causing halts to the game and no doubt annoying the grounds staff who had to continuously clean up. Not to mention to mention their idea of a chant against another team which consisted of the F word followed Newcastle repeated endlessly. Only interspersed with chants of USA, for which I didn't realize this was an international match between countries, I figured it was between to clubs. Oh well, these so called fans crude chants where inappropriate given the number of young children there to watch a local team play an EPL team.

The game was fun and it was nice to see a europe base team and to see there talent. the citrus bowl was so unprepair and under staff for this game is was a shame. i will never go back and if this is how orlando is trying to attract more fans for soccer good luck.

    Great Soccer Atmosphere

by PhilipRR on 7/19/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

I did not really know what to expect when I went to my first Orlando City game. The whole experience was fantastic and I definitely want to keep going back! First the quality of soccer was much better than I expected. A lot of people might be turned off by watching a "minor league" soccer team, but this USL-Pro side, I thought, held up very well against a middle-tier Premier League team. Very impressed and I could see why they are in first place. The fans are very chill. The general admission section is pretty full, but you still have plenty of space to sit down and just relax and watch the game. The cheering sections are great and provides a good mix of the passion other teams get with the laid backness of minor league sports.

    long way to go

by brighton55 on 6/12/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

a poor display from orlando especially in the first half, to progress and become a MLS team they would have to greatly improve. they should use the wings more and not crowd the midfield. overall i did enjoy the match

The Beautiful Game hits the Beautiful City!

by makio on 4/12/11Florida Citrus Bowl - Orlando

I highly recommend anyone in the Central Florida area, locals or tourists alike, to catch an Orlando City Soccer Club game if the chance arises. The fan support was incredible, the intensity was surprisingly high, and the atmosphere of it all was superb. I'll gladly return to the Citrus Bowl again to the support the squad. Good times.
