About Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium

Columbus, Ohio, is home to one of the most legendary college football programs of all time, whose success is still going strong after 130 years. The Ohio State Buckeyes play out of Ohio Stadium, which opened in 1922 and currently seats 102,780. They are coached by Ryan Day, who, in his first year leading Ohio State in 2019, oversaw a 13-1 season and a College Football Playoff berth.

History of Ohio State Buckeyes Football

The Ohio State University first fielded a football team in 1890, and the team became a charter member of the Ohio Athletic Conference in 1902 before joining the Big Ten in 1912. The Buckeyes won their first national championship in 1942 under coach Paul Brown, and they've won seven more, most recently in 2014 under Urban Meyer. Six players have won seven Heisman Trophies for the Buckeyes, including Les Horvath in 1944, Vic Janowicz in 1950, Howard "Hopalong" Cassady in 1955, Eddie George in 1995, Troy Smith in 2006, and the only two-time recipient, Archie Griffin, in 1974 and 1975. Ohio State has won 40 conference titles, including three while with the OAC, as well as eight divisional titles. The Buckeyes have also won eight Rose Bowl games, most recently after the 2018 season against Washington.

While Ohio State has long-running rivalries against Illinois and Penn State, their rivalry against Michigan is one of the most heated feuds in all of sports, dating back to 1897. The Ohio/Michigan rivalry has always been intense, but it rose to another level between 1969 and 1978, as Michigan coach Bo Schembechler and Ohio State coach Woody Hayes engaged in "The Ten Year War" as both teams competed for Big Ten and national championships. In 2019, the Buckeyes went 12-0 behind the play of defensive end Chase Young, cornerback Jeff Okudah, and quarterback Justin Fields, before defeating Wisconsin 34-21 in the Big Ten Championship Game, and losing 29-23 to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl as part of the College Football Playoff semifinals.

    Upset fan

    by R. B. on 10/8/23

My son and I went to his first game against Maryland. The mens restrooms were a nightmare at halftime so we walked out the gate for him to use a portable potty, not knowing we wouldn't be allowed to reenter the stadium. We were told it's posted on the gates but we sure didn't see it, nor were we told as we walked out and there were numerous staff standing there. Very bad for business for a true Buckeyes fan! I've read the stadium rules on multiple websites also and have found nowhere that says you can't reenter ugh!

    Great game experience

by RTG on 9/21/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

The Ohio State Football experience never disappoints. From the great tailgating to the wonderful staff and the fantastic seats, everything always seems fun and lively. I love coming back every year for a game or two and both games I attended this year were no different. Cannot wait until next year.

    Never sit in sections 18-30B

by MJ on 9/19/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

We paid $110 a piece for horrible tickets to a blow out game. We knew going in the game would be a blowout, but had no idea that section B was worse than section C on visitors side. The view was obstructed and covered. It did have TVs on the ceiling so you could see the score, but I felt like I was in a sports bar. The pipes above us were dripping water on our heads. The only consolation was that we were in row 18, the last row, so we could lean against the brick wall. We will never choose those seats again. We will pay less money for tickets in the C section.

Don't get seats at Section 2!

by Three on 9/12/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

Section 2C is where the flagpole is and it will hinder the view! Tickets are cheap but view is awful. You will miss major action!

This was both of my sons first Buckeyes game and the entire experience was more than you could have imagined. Our seats were fantastic! They have both been to nfl games and said this was so much better than that!

Fun at game. Hassle getting there

by Maggie on 9/12/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

We parked in the west campus lot and took the bus to the stadium. Worked well but big crowd. Loved the alumni band and cheerleaders. Game was exciting first half. A little lopsided second.

    (Happy) Spring Game

by 1980 Buckeye on 4/22/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

Ohio State football is a great experience, but going to the games in the fall can be a real pain with traffic, parking, and butting heads with 100,000 other Buckeye fans. The spring game was a lot of fun, and it came without the pain. It's a relaxed experience with free parking, less traffic, and being able to choose where you want to sit in the stadium. The marching band was there, as good as always. Concessions and restrooms didn't have long lines. It was very nice not being rubbed and bumped by the person next to you the entire game in the regular teeny tiny seats. I had a lot of fun. I'll be back next year.

    Greatly disappointed

by Dar on 4/22/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

We have gone to the spring game for several years now and always bring kids with us because it's an affordable way to have them see the players and the Shoe. They love it because they can get up close and see Brutus and the players. We didn't realize it until we went into the stadium this year that you could no longer sit in the lower bowl seats with the general admission tickets. This meant there was no way the kids would get close to Brutus or the players! Last year, they were able to get selfies and autographs. Needless to say, we were all HIGHLY disappointed and the kids were bummed. Probably won't go back☹️

    Sping Game feedback

by Dan 22 on 4/20/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

We continue to have difficulty getting tickets to pull up at the Entrance Gates. Once inside, the experience is great! Ushers are very helpful and fans were respectful. The game was fun and the pace was good.

    App works poorly

by Ron on 4/20/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

Game was good. The app for tickets continues to work intermittently, standing at the gate for it to finally work on 3rd try. Its not my first time; I used it all last season. Food voucher on app never worked and we missed the entire 2nd quarter waiting for food service team to figure it out. Food line was actually short. Game was good 1st, 3-4 quarters.

    Great Spring Football Experience

by Joyce on 4/19/23Ohio Stadium - Columbus

The OSU Spring Game was great! The weather was perfect. The band was excellent. The football game was interesting. The spring game is a great way for a family to experience the Shoe without the cost of seasonal game tickets. Ticketmaster did an excellent job of managing the tickets. I am not tech savvy so was reticent about the ticket management on my phone. There was no need for worry. The day before the game the tickets were in my email and easily scanned at the gate. I would definitely do this again.
