Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! is NPR's Peabody Award-winning comedy news quiz show. Host Peter Sagal leads a rotating panel of comedians, writers, listener contestants, and celebrity guests through a rollicking review of the week's news. Contestants vie for the most coveted prize in all of public radio: a custom-recorded greeting by any of our cast members for their voicemail.
Every week, Wait, Wait.... Don't Tell Me! records in front of a live audience, then carefully edits out all the raunchy, inappropriate, shocking, and hilarious stuff so we can broadcast something that doesn't get NPR in trouble... well, more trouble. The only way you can find out what our panelists and guests really think about the news is to come see for yourself. And please--don't tell NPR. Also, we're all much more attractive than we sound.
Really special to be part of the creation of a great radio show. Fascinating to learn what happens behind the scenes.
The program was too long, there was too much senseless banter among the three panelists (and the one, Dulcé, dominated and did not know when to keep quiet - much of what she said was incomprehensible - maybe that was a plus!). Much of the program was tasteless, delving into sexual references and menopause. Definitely not a family-oriented event (a number of young people in the audience) and atypical of NPR.
Attending the live taping of "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!"in Philadelphia was an absolute delight, combining sharp wit, engaging banter, and a vibrant atmosphere. The panelists and host had the audience in stitches with their quick humor and clever commentary, making for an unforgettable evening. The energy in the room was electric, making it a must-see experience for any NPR fan or comedy lover.
Very nice show, but it was often difficult to hear those on stage as there was a great deal cross talk as well as crowd noise.
The Paramount is a lovely theater, but the leg room was awful! I'm 6 foot and i could not move my legs. Ended up getting a left leg cramp and had to stand up to relive the pain Mezzanine 23 row L Seat 12. at least I was on the end and could sort of stretch my right leg out into the isle. Otherwise a great show.
I was so happy that they came to Seattle! Didn’t disappoint!
As a long time listener of the show I was curious to see it live! I was mildly disappointed that the host was not able to be there but Tom was a very good alternative. It was entertaining to see the various takes on subjects and then to hear what the final product sounded like.
Need to start on time. 7:30 Showtime should me the show starts at 7:30. So not punish the good planners by making them wait for the poor planners who arrive late. Too bad, so sad. The show itself was great fun.
I am a long time fan of Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, and I was very impressed with my experience witnessing the show live. I love Tom Papa and thought he did a great job as the host. Lots of laughs, smart, funny contestants, and an enthusiastic audience. I especially enjoyed staying long enough to witness the after show corrections that were made. So interesting to see how that is done.
This was the most fun you can have without doing something naughty or illegal!! I will come to this show every time it visits Seattle!
I’ve always loved listening to WWDTM, but there’s nothing like seeing it live and in person. I’d go every week if they were based in Seattle. Tom Papa was a last minute fill in for the regular host and did a great job.
I thought all comics did a great job, especially Alphonso. He was a great host, and very funny. We came from Buffalo to see the show - hopefully, the tour will stop there someday. I'll be sure to get tickets!
Expected Bodden to be great, and he was. The other 3 comedians were very good. These all were professional performers.
I think, because I am an older person, the comedy did not resonate with me. I did not find the comedy funny, but more rancorous than I like. I appreciate that the younger audience really enjoyed the comedy, but, for me, it was not what I expected. I would rather have seen the radio version of the show. I should have read the ad for the show more closely and I would have realized that this would not be the radio version. I would not have gone, in that case. I felt that it was bit over priced, especially since I had to pay a ten dollar parking fee.
I thought I was ordering tickets to a Wait Wait tapping and didn’t know what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised and my friend and I loved it! Each comedian was very different, but all were timely and very funny. We laughed till our faces hurt and would go again without hesitation. They were right that it’s not a show for kids but adults would certainly enjoy it.
From what was advertised, I believed this would be a REAL Wait, Wait Don't Tell me event ..... I had attended one of those several years ago, and it was GREAT! This was just stand-up comedy from 4 Wait, Wait comics, and didn't have the magic of the radio show performance I'd seen before. Wasn't bad, but we were disappointed, and if we'd known exactly what it was, we would NOT have gone to see it.
Great comedians! Everyone had a great time. It was a laugh a minute. I would go to the show again the next two me it is in town.
All in all, an entertaining night with excellent comedians. Although I want the host to take his message and humor about race far and wide, I didn't appreciate his demeaning comments about watching the weather for a look at the women's bodies. Please, we women have struggled to gain acceptance in the media for our brains. Don't take that away from us with this salacious commentary.
I was not sure what I expected, but it was strictly stand-up comedy. I thought it would be more in line with the NPR show. I’m not a huge fan of stand-up and there were funny bits but overall, I could’ve skipped it
I did not realize that the show was a series of stand-up sets by the NPR hosts. It did not recreate the game format, so I was a little disappointed. But all the comics were very funny, and we enjoyed the entire evening very much.
