I took my daughter for her 17th birthday since this is one of her favorite movies of all time. The whole family totally enjoyed this show. Jeremy Jordan did an excellent job as Jack! The singing and dancing was over the top, we hope to see it again before the end of the run.
Alan Menken (genius) music is amazing live, dancing and choreography is spot-on brilliant!! Great show! don't miss it! Multiple standing ovations during the show!
Anyone who has ever watched Newsies, needs to go see it on Broadway. A lot of the story was changed and new characters were added, but if you loved the movie you'll love the show. Definitely worth seeing. I hope it stays on Broadway for a while so I can go back and see it again.
Well done, dancing excellent. Leads very good. To top off the day, sat at the table next to Harvey Fierstein at Junior's after the show and he was very friendly when we were leaving and mentioned we had seen the show (for those that don't know, he wrote the Book for Newsies).
SHOW WAS BETTER THAN EXPECTED. MEMORABLE NO. SATISFYING YES. WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS. NOT TO SOMEONE WHO LOVES THEATRE. BUT IF YOU ARE COMING TO NEW YORK WITH KIDS. GET TICKETS AND THE FAMILY WILL ENJOY. NOW WHILE THE BOOK IS MOVES THE STORY ALONG, THE SONGS ARE HUMMABLE WHILE YOU ARE STILL IN THE THEATRE, AND THE DANCING IS QUITE GOOD. WHILE THE ACTING IS SERVICEABLE THOUGH JEREMY JORDAN CLEARLY HAS A FUTURE IN THE THEATRE. THIS SHOW WILL PROBABLY WIN THE TONY FOR BEST MUSICAL. WHY BECAUSE IT WILL TRAVEL ON THE ROAD AND THOSE THEATRE OWNERS WILL SUPPORT IT OVER A MUCH BETTER MUCIAL.....ONCE. WHICH IS FAR SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY.
I have been a huge fan of the movie Newsies since I was a little girl. When I heard that Newsies was coming to Broadway, with the help of composer Alan Menken, I knew I had to go! And I am so, so glad I did! I have been to many Broadway shows over the years, including Billy Elliot, Wicked, Mary Poppins, and Anything Goes. And while those were all incredible shows, I think that Newsies is my favorite musical I've seen yet. There were many of the same songs and great moments from the movie in the theater production, but changes were made. And while some people may gripe and say that because it is different it is awful, I think that these changes make the musical stronger and make sense for a stage adaptation. The cast is incredible. Led by Jeremy Jordan and Kara Lindsay as a new (and much improved from the movie!) love interest, the chemistry and camaraderie in the cast was spot on. And the singing and dancing? Terrific. Newsies has been doing so well that its limited engagement run on Broadway has already been extended three months! Go see this show and make sure that its run is extended even more! Because it is so worth it!
Newsies is the best thing I've seen on Broadway in a long time. The cast is enthusiastic the dancing is amazing, as is the choreography. Followed the movie to a certain extent but the differences were good and did not detract from the story line. The music is familiar and loved by all who have loved the movie plus a few additional songs where appropriate. The only disappointment is the best line of the move - "never fear, Brooklyn's here!" was not used; rather, it was made into a song and many of us missed that. Loved that the cast made themselves available for autographs soon after show got out...no prima dons here!
Amazing. My daughter saw this movie at school and talked us into getting tickets. It was a fabulous show. We all enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend.
The show was fantastic. The story line and some songs were altered a little to fit the stage, but still true to Newsies. The dancing was out of this world. The dancing amazed me. 1,000 times better than the movie. Wow.
THe cast was captivating! Standing ovation at the end. Best show I've ever seen!
I LOVED the musical and though the dancing was AMAZING. I've grown up watching the Disney movie and was so excited to learn it was coming to Broadway. When I saw their performance in the Macys parade, I was confused as to who the new girl was and why the words of "King of New York" had changed. While watching the musical I found myself loosing focus on the parts that were changed. I understand needing to change some things from a movie to stage performance but I wish the writers and especially lyrics could have stayed more true to the movie. I still think the acting, dancing, and singing was phenomenal.
If you are a fan of the movie like I am, this is a must -see show. For those who are unfamiliar with it, it is still an amazing show packed with amazing songs, incredible dancing, and unforgettable performances. Jeremy Jordan, as Jack Kelly, has an incredible voice and kills each song, every time. Kara Lindsay, as Katharine Plumber (a new character, replacing the reporter character in the movie), convinced me that it was a good idea to turn the reporter to a girl. Her voice is amazing and her chemistry with Jordan is undeniable. The plot isn't so complex, but hey, it's Disney after all. Kid-friendly, but any adult would have a great time. The dancing in this show is probably the most athletic I've seen on a live stage. Flipping, jumping, tumbling; these guys do it all! GO SEE IT!!!
For anyone who is a fan of the movie (or even if you're not) I HIGHLY recommend you see this! The dancing is phenomenal and the cast is amazing.
This show was amazing! I truly enjoyed every moment. It far exceeded my expectations of what i thought it would be. I wish I could go see it again!
