Nashville Predators History

The Predators joined the NHL in 1998 during a two-year expansion that saw the League add the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild. The team made its first trip to the Playoffs during the 2003-04 season, and proceeded to make the postseason six of the next seven seasons. Nashville won its first Playoff series against the Anaheim Ducks in 2011, and returned to the second round again the following spring.

Two seasons later, with Peter Laviolette as Head Coach, Nashville began their four-year run as a Stanley Cup contender. With P.K. Subban arriving ahead of the 2016-17 season to anchor the defense, the Preds upset the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks in consecutive Playoff series to reach the 2017 Stanley Cup Final. That streak had two distinctions: It was the first time a No. 8 seed knocked out a top seed (the Blackhawks) and the Predators became the first team in two decades to win 10 consecutive home Playoff games.

Facing the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Final, the Preds lost the first two games before storming back to take Games 3 and 4. After a decisive Pittsburgh home victory, the Penguins prevailed 2-0 in Game 6, with both goals coming in the final two minutes.

Filip Forsberg, who re-signed with the team for eight seasons in July 2022, is the Predators all-time leading scorer. Roman Josi, Pekka Rinne, Mike Fisher and Steve Sullivan have all won NHL awards, while Josi, Rinne and former captain Shea Weber have the distinction of being NHL First-Team All-Stars for the club. The Nashville Predators have made the Playoffs 15 times in their 24 seasons.

    Great game, low attendance

by Greg702 on 11/18/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

The Preds vs. Sharks was the latest stop in my plan to see all NHL arenas. I can tell you that in terms of the facilities and sightlines, the Sommet Center rates in the top five. The entire staff were very nice with the ice girls welcoming each fan as they walked in. Every employee was really helpful. The game itself was phenomenal, its just unfortunate that so few saw it live as the building was only 2/3 full (I'm talking actual attendance, not including the people who had tickets and didn't show up). This means less fan noise which is why I give the experience an average rating. To me, a full house (or very close to it) is very important for the fans to be excited during the game. It also is a reflection of fan support. Granted, it was a weekday game but this was against the Sharks, currently having the best record in the league! Most normal NHL venues would be at least 90% full for this. It might be caused by a poor economy, but I also recall the Nashville organization having financial issues way before the recession. Anyway, I just didn't get the passionate vibe I had experienced in cities like Buffalo, Montreal, Calgary, San Jose, Pittsburgh and New York. Great restaurant and bar atmosphere in the neighborhood before and after the game.

southern, expansion hockey at its finest

by TomT11 on 11/16/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

Being from the northeast, when it comes to hockey, I often think about the original 6, or the great old Canadian teams. But, in Nashville for another event, I decided to check out the Predators. The Sommet arena is awesome. It's big, it's clean, and a great place to watch a game. The crowd was very into the game, which was great to see. The cheerleaders/dancers were not something I am used to seeing, but it was nice seeing how they interacted with fans. With a SEC game earlier in the day and an NFL game the next afternoon, the downtown area was packed, and there was a definite (postive) vibe in the air.

    Preds vs Habs

by Zamoboni on 11/16/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

The ice never froze right after the Zambonis flooded the pond. This made the ice soft. Soft ice slowed down the players and it was a very slow skating game.

Predators vs. Canadians Sommet Center Review

by mha333 on 11/15/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

First and foremost was the excellent service and courtesy of Sommet Center staff. Great job of informing me where the location of my seat, location of rest rooms and food service, and maintaining a very clean and safe venue. Aside from the game (won by the Predators), the entertainment was also enjoyable. I am less supportive of having non-stop entertainment and noise in the arena than, perhaps, other fans. I was thinking that not 5 seconds would go by without something else to see, and, while this is entertaining, I wonder if it is really necessary to "overload" the audience with visual and auditory input almost non-stop all night. Just a thought. Not really a complaint, but sometimes silence makes the entertainment even more enjoyable. All in all, a very polished, well-rehearsed, and efficient production all evening long.

    somment center is great

by jud1984 on 10/30/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

As a Blackhawk fan I was disappointed in the game result, but thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable ambiance of the Sommet Center. The Nashville fans are great too. From a frustrated Illinois hockey fan, thanks for a great evening .

    Good game!

by anklebiter on 10/30/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

I came with my boyfriend. This game was his two-year anniversary present and his first ever NHL game. We are really happy with how the Preds are doing this year and the game was a really good game. Not the most exciting I've ever seen, but good. It was nice just to get out of town for a while. We drove up from Memphis to attend the game. I wish we could have found a home game closer to our anniversary though. (Our anniversary was October 19). I am working a haunted house this month and throwing a Halloween party, so the timing was a little bad. It was so nice to come to a hockey game again though. The last game I attended was 8 years ago!

Hockey is the best action around

by funnycar on 10/20/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

Very impressed with the Sommet Center and Nashville. Was on a driving trip from Chicago to Florida, when noticed the Chicago Blackhawks would be playing in Nashville at the same time so, we decided to make the game part of the trip. Nashville put on a great family, entertaining event that I hope will be successful for years to come. Hockey is a great, intense sport that should succed in any climate, not just in cold climates cause it is played on ice. The action is non-stop and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I wish the Predators all the luck and making it a success in this market.

    Hockey..great family fun!

by dwilliams on 10/16/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

OK, Nashville Predators could have done better..but its early in the season! I really wished I lived closer and I'd definitely have season tickets to the Predators. Hockey is a great sport that doesn't get the media support in Nashville that it should. The Predators are a professional team like the TItans and should be treated the same!

    Soccer game on ice

by Roughrider on 10/12/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

If you were a soccer fan you would have enjoyed this game. No contact, lots of moving up and down the ice, one goal scored ( late in the game). Neither team looked like they wanted to play the game tonight. Fans were good and doing their best to get into the game. Boring at best.

Predators beat the Avalanche in home opener!

by Tnnurse on 10/9/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

How could it have been bad....we WON !! Of course, if Jordan Tootoo had played, and there had been a fight or two, would've been even better.

    Bad Sportsman ship, good game.

by Harbour11 on 10/9/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

I understand ritual. When you join a team and follow their season you join a kind of family. I have just moved to Nashville from Denver and was excited to see the game. I was hoping to don a Preds shirt and join this family here for home games. My experience at last nights game helped me decide not to join in. Saying "you suck" as an auditorium when the home team scores a goal is one of the most unsportsman like things i've experienced. I understand the "coolness" of having home game rituals, i do. But i felt offended. Also, on a different matter, there was condensation falling on and around my entire section during the game. I was glad to be there. The game was a good one.
