Nashville Predators History

The Predators joined the NHL in 1998 during a two-year expansion that saw the League add the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild. The team made its first trip to the Playoffs during the 2003-04 season, and proceeded to make the postseason six of the next seven seasons. Nashville won its first Playoff series against the Anaheim Ducks in 2011, and returned to the second round again the following spring.

Two seasons later, with Peter Laviolette as Head Coach, Nashville began their four-year run as a Stanley Cup contender. With P.K. Subban arriving ahead of the 2016-17 season to anchor the defense, the Preds upset the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks in consecutive Playoff series to reach the 2017 Stanley Cup Final. That streak had two distinctions: It was the first time a No. 8 seed knocked out a top seed (the Blackhawks) and the Predators became the first team in two decades to win 10 consecutive home Playoff games.

Facing the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Final, the Preds lost the first two games before storming back to take Games 3 and 4. After a decisive Pittsburgh home victory, the Penguins prevailed 2-0 in Game 6, with both goals coming in the final two minutes.

Filip Forsberg, who re-signed with the team for eight seasons in July 2022, is the Predators all-time leading scorer. Roman Josi, Pekka Rinne, Mike Fisher and Steve Sullivan have all won NHL awards, while Josi, Rinne and former captain Shea Weber have the distinction of being NHL First-Team All-Stars for the club. The Nashville Predators have made the Playoffs 15 times in their 24 seasons.

    Predators played a great game!

by BuffPuff on 12/2/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

Although the game started out a little slow it bacame a thriller after the 2nd period. Too Too was hot and gave plenty of fighting action and the team played a great defense and made some good scores and incredable attempts.

The opening video was not as good as in the past. Also the videos were mostly boring and slow. Need to improve on this.

    Preds Top Red Wings 3-1

by sublime515 on 11/24/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

The Good: Game was awesome... view was great could see everything and every goal. I could even hear the players talk to one another. The people at the stores and the food stands were very nice and friendly.. not like paid friendly but just really nice without the act. Liquid Ice Girls were very nice and were every where The Bad: Lots of Red Wing Jerseys in Nashville... Seats are Soo tight together. Alot of standing up to let people get in and out of their seats. The Ugly: The Price is WAY to high. I sat about 9 rows from the ice and it was over 190 for 2 tickets. Im a huge fan so I pay it but others who are not will turn away...

    Rinne was Hot!

by ConflictedinMusicCity on 11/24/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

Great game! Conflicted feelings though. Grew up in Detroit but now live in Nashville so I support both teams. Happy to see the Preds doing well. If you haven't been to a game, you have to be there to fully experience it!

Last night's Predators game was amazing! We always look forward to the rivalry between the Redwings and the Preds. Once again, it was a very interesting, ending in a 3-1 victory for the Preds. Our family had a great time, and of course we had awesome seats, thanks to ticketmaster.

    Price Rocks!

by RougeBlancBleu on 11/23/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

I didn't expect a Canadiens fan in Nashville to get great treatment, that's why I like going to visiting cities. BUT, the constant chants of "YOU SUCK" and "WE"RE GONNA BEAT THE HELL OUT OF YOU", apparently sanctioned by the Predators, was just too much. We went to a game in St. Louis last year and the experience was much more pleasent. Bottom line, NO more games in Nashville.

    Columbus v nashville

by nabenom on 11/23/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

This was truly one of the more exciting defensive games I have seen in a long time. The Blue Jacket's defensive line was so stifling that even though the bottom line was 48 shots on goal, the fact is that most of those were reasonably straightforward saves for the exceptional play of Mason. There were fewer breakaways than I've seen in most games around the league and the lack of offense on Columbus' part was mere testament to the defensive effort. The Predators had trouble getting a player into position for a scoring play and the Blue Jackets seemed to have two on ones appear out of thin air. This was not a New Jersey game of clinch, grab and hold, this was pure thrill D skating! I enjoyed every regular and overtime minute!

The game was excellent! Got to see back and forth with a shootout and of course it helps when the home team pulls it out. Go Preds!

    Great game, low attendance

by Greg702 on 11/18/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

The Preds vs. Sharks was the latest stop in my plan to see all NHL arenas. I can tell you that in terms of the facilities and sightlines, the Sommet Center rates in the top five. The entire staff were very nice with the ice girls welcoming each fan as they walked in. Every employee was really helpful. The game itself was phenomenal, its just unfortunate that so few saw it live as the building was only 2/3 full (I'm talking actual attendance, not including the people who had tickets and didn't show up). This means less fan noise which is why I give the experience an average rating. To me, a full house (or very close to it) is very important for the fans to be excited during the game. It also is a reflection of fan support. Granted, it was a weekday game but this was against the Sharks, currently having the best record in the league! Most normal NHL venues would be at least 90% full for this. It might be caused by a poor economy, but I also recall the Nashville organization having financial issues way before the recession. Anyway, I just didn't get the passionate vibe I had experienced in cities like Buffalo, Montreal, Calgary, San Jose, Pittsburgh and New York. Great restaurant and bar atmosphere in the neighborhood before and after the game.

southern, expansion hockey at its finest

by TomT11 on 11/16/09Sommet Center Nashville Predators - Nashville

Being from the northeast, when it comes to hockey, I often think about the original 6, or the great old Canadian teams. But, in Nashville for another event, I decided to check out the Predators. The Sommet arena is awesome. It's big, it's clean, and a great place to watch a game. The crowd was very into the game, which was great to see. The cheerleaders/dancers were not something I am used to seeing, but it was nice seeing how they interacted with fans. With a SEC game earlier in the day and an NFL game the next afternoon, the downtown area was packed, and there was a definite (postive) vibe in the air.
