Mystery Science Theater 3000 has earned its place in history as one of the Top 100 TV Shows of all time and is currently a hit show on Netflix. Now you can sit in the same theater with your favorite characters and experience this comedy phenomenon in a universally-acclaimed LIVE event.
This is the last chance to see Joel as he celebrates his final live tour performing the unique comedic art form he created. The exhilarating, nonstop, rapid-fire hilarity is brimming with hundreds of jokes riffed on a "So-Bad-It's-Good" feature film, plus spirited sketches and songs that turn the stage into a circus-themed party.
Happy to see Joel one last time. MST3K is a multigenerational show for our family.
MST3K was better than i cpuld have hopes for. Everyone was at their best. The audience was fun and i cant wait for the opportunity to see the show again
LOL. Had a good time. Didn't understand why only 4 seats were available in the orchestra section when only about 30% to 40% were filled during the show.
Gift for the boyfriend- he enjoyed it immensely. The acoustics/sound system suck in the theatre, and there was no air circulation.
This was my second time I've seen this company's show. It was extra special since the founding member is no longer going to tour on any further live shows. it was extra special since I went with some family and close acquaintance. I just hope that they had fun.
We received these tickets as a gift and thought it sounded fun and funny, so we gave it a try. But we were not the right audience for this show. As a family with a teenage son, we weren't drinking, but many of the other audience members were. Our seats were also way in the back, on the side, and the ushers seated a lot of latecomers who had to push past us during the opening. This was annoying and when I finally settled back down to watch uninterrupted I didn't have a good sense of what was happening onstage. For a show called Mystery Science Theater 3000, there didn't appear to be any mystery or any science to speak of. The framing story, that robots were being forced to watch bad movies, didn't work for me. And the movie they made fun of, "Circus of Horrors," deserved it, but the comments weren't funny enough to make sitting through that movie enjoyable. In fact most of the audience appeared to be enjoying themselves quite a lot, which made me feel I must be missing something. I thought this concept would have generally worked better as a TV show, and so my theory is that most of the audience were already fans of the show of the same name, who wanted to see it live. If you fit that description, you'll probably have fun here. If not, stay away.
Nice venue. Was a little offput at the beginning. Joel came out with a guitar and sang the title song...off key and slow. He then introduced the bots and new characters. All of these performers were new and none of the originals except Joel. However once the movie and riffing began, all worries about the show were gone. Excellent show. Very funny. The new performers proved themselves throughout and Joel was great!
The show itself was amazing. No doubt about that. My complaint is the venue. No food was allowed inside. 2 of my party arrived later than planned due to late BART train and were hoping to get food from the snack bar to eat inside. The snack bar refused to sell them any food (turkey wrap) because the show was starting in 5 minutes but told them you can come back at intermission to buy the turkey wrap. At intermission they were first in line at the snack bar only to be told the turkey wraps were sold out. Having to sit through a show being HUNGRY is not fun. They could have sat down in the lounge area and eaten the food before going into the theater. Missing a few minutes at the beginning would not have been a big deal. TERRIBLE GUEST SERVICE FROM THE SBACK BAR AND THEY ALSO RAN OUT IF FOOD.
The movie, the riffing, and seeing Joel live was great. The stagecraft left something to be desired - lighting was bad, too much of the action was shadowed by the video monitor, and the butterfly subplot seemed forced. Glad I went, but was expecting better.
So great! As funny as ever! I haven’t laughed this hard since the 90’s
It was exactly as I had hoped. Through in some improv, Seattle jokes and some funny question from the audience during a mechanical problem... so much fun!
My husband was really into Mystery Science theater. I, on the other-hand knew nothing about it. We both enjoyed the evening . We laughed and laughed. What a great night.
The show was great but the parking pass was confusing. I bought a parking and after the great show everyone at the garage including me was trying to figure out how to use it. There was no information on the website about how to use it.
Really great show for fans of MST3K or heckling bad movies. Except for Joel most of the cast was different than the TV and Netflix series' crews, though that changes each year they do this, but still told some great jokes. Many of them are probably from the same script for every stop, but there is definitely ad-libing / customization for each city. For instance, the film they used, "No Surrender, No Retreat", was set in Seattle so they made jokes about the villains moving the Sonics to Oklahoma City. Really fun time.
This was the best MST3K experience I've ever had, and I've been a fan since the mid 90s! Even a non-fan who came with us thought it was awesome. The movie was so so bad but at the same time perfect for riffing, and it was such a great surprise to have Joel as the host the entire time! The jokes were spot-on and just so hilarious. The memory of this night is one I'll cherish for the rest of my life. Thanks MST3K! I love you guys!
MST 3000 was a blast. Seeing it live was a novel way to share the experience with others. The theatre was packed, sound was good, and the puppeteering was fun to watch. Of course the movie was cheesy and the comments were hilarious.
I bought these tickets as a Christmas gift for a friend. We had planned on going to mst3k live many times and something always came up for me. So this time I bought the tickets ahead of time and blocked out my schedule entirely for the evening to make absolutely certain I could go. It was so much better than just watching it on TV. I love mst3k! We will miss you, Joel!!
First, the show was terrific. Joel and the others did a tremendous job--more with the movie than with the so-called frivolity during intermissions. The jokes landed, they were clever, and I thought they did better than they even did on the TV show. Second, the venue was terrible. Seattle's Moore Theater is a spectacular architectural structure. Honestly, it's over 100 years old and could be a museum. But for those of us on the balcony, the upper part of the movie screen was cut off, and apparently there was nothing they could do about it. We had to trudge up about 90 steps to get there, the aisles had no protective railings, and the bathrooms were minimal at best. This is not a place to view movies.
Wasn't sure what to expect from a show you watched on TV with a unique vantage point. But the live version worked - the quirky 'acts' were okay but I think staying just with the concept that made MST3K so popular would have been enough. I bought seats shortly before the show date and was front and center about 10 rows back. Good viewing spot and a nice facility for any show.
I had heard of MST3K live shows in the past, often local events in Minneapolis, MN. But apparently this is -- or near approaching -- show creator Joel Hodgson farewell to the cult classic series, whilst providing a reboot for the live stage version with an all new Mad and an all new human host. The show's host segments comprised of mock circus acts with a running gag of Crow T. Robot as the unlikely (self-appointed) safety inspector, entirely unrelated to the movie. Given that other live shows will supposedly display an entirely different movie, this ambiguous choice of comedy sketch actually works, and are cute in and of themselves. The movie itself -- "No Retreat, No Surrender" -- is a hilariously awful mid-'80s knock off of martial arts tournament movies of the era, both those that take the form of teenage dramas as well as crime actions flicks. That the third act of the film suddenly takes on a supernatural angle with the appearance of the ghost of Bruce Lee (portrayed by an Asian actor for whom no pains whatsoever were taken to hide a lack of resemblance to the famed martial artist) as the lead's mentor only compounds the "written as the film crew moved along" feel of the film. The appearance of Jean Claude van Damme (no, really) in an unspeaking role as the bad guys' chief henchman does little, although it does make for a massive uptick in the film's fight choreography.
