My Fair Lady on Tour
With its jubilant revival of My Fair Lady, the Lincoln Center Theater's North American touring production gives audiences the opportunity to enjoy what many have called a "perfect" Broadway musical with new eyes and ears.
Lincoln Center's Tony-nominated revival opened in 2018 and won accolades for director Bartlett Sher's glorious new take on Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, about the platonic relationship that develops when arrogant linguistics professor Henry Higgins wagers he can transform cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a "proper lady." The musical's original Broadway production, starring Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison, premiered in 1956 and set a record for longest-running Broadway show. It has been revived many times, for good reason.
The new production stars Shereen Ahmed as Eliza Doolittle and Laird Mackintosh as Henry Higgins. Ahmed was an understudy in the Broadway production and frequently substituted for leading lady Laura Benanti. Mackintosh's most recent role was in the long-running Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera, whose title role he has also played more than 200 times.
About My Fair Lady the Musical
Lerner and Loewe were at first hesitant to adapt a play that apparently lacked a love story. They arrived at something even grander: a musical about two people whose lives are transformed by their mutual aspirations. They invested songs like "With a Little Bit of Luck," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" with both heart and humor, creating standards of near-universal appeal.
In a My Fair Lady described as "plush and thrilling" by The New York Times, director Bartlett Sher suggests that Eliza Doolittle's urge to reinvent herself is even more powerful than Henry Higgins' desire to win his bet. While Christopher Gattelli's choreography pays tribute to the original Broadway production, set designer Michael Yeargan emphasizes the opulence of Henry Higgins' home, through whose rooms actors roam on a revolving stage. The real magic in this My Fair Lady, however, is the acting and singing. There may not be a passionate romance at the heart of this timeless masterpiece, but there is chemistry aplenty.

This was an incredible performance! Amazing voices, actors and costumes, just a stellar experience.
Love the Dolby and going back to see live theater. The cast was fabulous, their voices were strong. The songs were familiar, costumes, dancing other then the mask it was like 2 years ago.
I've only been to few plays and My Fair Lady was the best I've seen so far. My only complaint was the theater kept seating well into the show which was a little distracting.
Excellent production, good voices from an unknown cast (at least to me). I did have trouble understanding the dialog, but know the lyrics and story by heart so could easily follow. The big problem was that I took ACCESS, disabled transportation and Hollywood Blvd. was blocked off. ACCESS let me off at the parking garage, a long walk to the theater. Then after the performance, they couldn't find me and many phone calls later we agreed on a pick up location. Other performance venues have designated drop off-pick up areas with signs - Examples, LA Music Center, Hollywood Bowl.
What's to say? Julie Andrews was skipped to give Audrey Hepburn the roll of Eliza Doolittle. A great roll it was and still is. The actors today paid great homage to those before. My family and I really enjoyed it all. Parking was easy (prepaid). The Dolby is a terrific venue (I'd never been). The play/musical is a fun, whimsical story lightly injecting womens power and the rights deserved.
The show itself was great. My enjoyment was hampered by some audience members who continued to wear their masks below their nose or under their chin. It is questionable whether eating or drinking should be allowed in the theater, but if one quickly pulls their mask back in place it is fine. These people had full bare face out even after being corrected by the usher, AND some would pull up the mask anytime an usher was around. Better security and mask enforcement please!
This Musical was wonderful. Getting to the Dolby Theater was horrible though. Hard to navigate on the streets and in the parking garage.
The venue is beautiful but the performances from My Fair Lady were breathtaking! Beautiful show and amazing vocals from the cast! Enjoyed every second of the show.
Ticketmaster changed our performance unilaterally to a date that we could not attend. We asked for a change in date but received no response and our $300 tickets expired without reimbursement. We are very disappointed since we had waited over a year to attend this event.
I placed order for my wife and I plus our 2 granddaughters for My Fair Lady 10/08/2021. I received confirmation, then a short timer later, a notice that my tickets were rescheduled for 10/15/2021. I was unable to find any contact number so I called credit card company to dispute charge. T cc company found a merchant contact number which I called and spoke to rep Rhea (in Philippines), She referred me to another department which requested copies of any communication. I complied and never heard from ticketmaster again until this "survey". I will never deal with this entity again.
I loved the show. Everything was great except that Ticketmaster would not let you print paper tapes. I see no reason why you can't print them out and the usher can scan them , the same as by your phone. I like paper tickets and feel most comfortable with them.
First time at the Dolby Theatre, it is absolutely gorgeous. The show and the orchestra was just beautiful. Could not have asked for a better evening out.
This was the first performance I’ve attended at the Kodak, errr Dolby. Despite a seemingly centralized location, it was kinda hidden & tricky to find, but once we did, despite the situation our world is in, staff were kind & helpful. It’s a nice, simple venue, not gaudy, despite being the main Oscar location. The production itself was relatively top notch, smooth scene transitions, moved relatively quickly, clocking in a bit under 3 hrs, w/15 min intermission. The cast gave decent vocal performances. However, the one big drawback was the lack of chemistry between Laird Mackintosh & Shereen Ahmed. Mackintosh’s lines/insults are brutally funny, as they should be, but that’s all that it seems Mackintosh’s, Prof Henry Higgins is able to convey. I would compare their relationship as the elocution teacher/working class girl, student of high society, relationship w/Eliza Doolittle, more like JK Simmons to Miles Teller in ‘Whiplash’. At times, Mackintosh is too brutal & conclusion Was more like Randolph & Mortimer Duke in ‘Trading Places’, once their bet’s results come in, out u go. But, perhaps that was how they were directed. It was meant to be cold, competitive and a war of wills…
The actors surpassed my expectations! I absolutely loved the singing, dancing. My favorite scenes were the raucous bar scene for I’m getting Married… and The Rain in Spain. Sounded exactly like Rex Harrison!
Love the storyline the acting and the ambiance. 2 thumbs up
The set, props, music, acting, and dancing were all superb. If there is one thing I would change, it would be giving an array of black and white costumes for the ladies in the Ascot horse race and more colorful outfits for Eliza with Freddy and in Mrs. Huggins' garden. The most compelling part is the unexpected ending when Eliza walked away after Professor Higgins asked for his slippers. Now, that is progress!
The experience was wonderful. The Staff at the Dolby was incredible. I had a problem accessing my tickets on my phone but a Supervisor came to my aid! Thanks. The show was excellent. I was constantly envisioning Rex Harrison as I watched with great admiration the role of Dr. Higgins on Stage. The entire cast was great. Thanks
Wonderful revival for all ages. Favorites that stand the test of time. Great performances, staging, and acoustics without a bad seat in the house. Very much had a good time.
My Fair Lady is an all time fave, but I was a bit disappointed by the lack of freshness to this production. Overall, it felt paint by the numbers, with a solid portrayal of Eliza, but a much less charismatic guy playing Higgins. And in the end, they couldn't figure out how to square the now unacceptably sexist ending ("Go fetch my slippers!"), instead trying to make it ambiguous enough to pass muster.
