My Fair Lady on Tour

With its jubilant revival of My Fair Lady, the Lincoln Center Theater's North American touring production gives audiences the opportunity to enjoy what many have called a "perfect" Broadway musical with new eyes and ears.

Lincoln Center's Tony-nominated revival opened in 2018 and won accolades for director Bartlett Sher's glorious new take on Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, about the platonic relationship that develops when arrogant linguistics professor Henry Higgins wagers he can transform cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a "proper lady." The musical's original Broadway production, starring Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison, premiered in 1956 and set a record for longest-running Broadway show. It has been revived many times, for good reason.

The new production stars Shereen Ahmed as Eliza Doolittle and Laird Mackintosh as Henry Higgins. Ahmed was an understudy in the Broadway production and frequently substituted for leading lady Laura Benanti. Mackintosh's most recent role was in the long-running Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera, whose title role he has also played more than 200 times.

About My Fair Lady the Musical

Lerner and Loewe were at first hesitant to adapt a play that apparently lacked a love story. They arrived at something even grander: a musical about two people whose lives are transformed by their mutual aspirations. They invested songs like "With a Little Bit of Luck," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" with both heart and humor, creating standards of near-universal appeal.

In a My Fair Lady described as "plush and thrilling" by The New York Times, director Bartlett Sher suggests that Eliza Doolittle's urge to reinvent herself is even more powerful than Henry Higgins' desire to win his bet. While Christopher Gattelli's choreography pays tribute to the original Broadway production, set designer Michael Yeargan emphasizes the opulence of Henry Higgins' home, through whose rooms actors roam on a revolving stage. The real magic in this My Fair Lady, however, is the acting and singing. There may not be a passionate romance at the heart of this timeless masterpiece, but there is chemistry aplenty.

    Wonderful play - highly recommend.

    by G on 3/11/20Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

The cast of this play is amazing. Fabulous voices and acting. The set was beautiful and so imaginative. If you have a chance, go see it. Worth every penny. Only negative is the darn line for the women's room at intermission. It was so long (and we literally ran to get into line) that we missed the first part of the second half. Either they need to make intermission longer, or they need to figure out a way to accommodate the women in these old, yet beautiful, facilities. Did appreciate the lavatory cops who kept the line moving and handed out paper towels. Thanks for that.

    'My Fair Lady'

by Heidi on 3/11/20Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

My mom, 18-year-old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the play! The cast, set, music, etc. were spectacular, even from our seats up high in the balcony. The ONLY drawback to the experience was the very limited legroom in our seats. But we absolutely loved "My Fair Lady!"

    Awesome!

    by P&J C on 3/10/20Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

The best performance we have seen in a long time. Set design, acting, music, and story were just superb. Very entertaining and fun. Even though it was a bit on the long side, it flowed very well and was a real joy to watch.

    Twin Cities stop

by Carol on 3/10/20Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

Although we live in the twin cities, we go to theater for special occasions. This occasion was because my husband has a birthday, loves theater, and I love musical theater. This experience turned out to be one of the best experience we had. The seats were packed. We could clearly see the stage from our seat. The performances by the cast was excellent. It was great.

    Disclaimer needed

by Shelly on 3/10/20Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

My Fair Lady is a musical that is near and dear to me. I was so excited to see the play. Three quarters of the way into the play when Alfie is about to get married, the production changes the scene into a raunchy bar scene. I was so offended! If there would have been something said about it in the description when initially posted before a person purchases tickets, I would have not bought tickets. I felt violated and it took me a long time to calm down. Not all of us find things like this as entertainment. There was nothing wrong with the original, so why ruin it?

    My Fair Lady

by DDBug on 3/6/20Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I really enjoyed the play. The music, costumes, scenery and actors were excellent. There were a few areas in the middle that seemed a little long. Be prepared for a three hour show I was appalled when some of the audience went rushing out before the curtain call was completed. All in all, an excellent show!

Cast was awesome, but the venue was way to warm. Several people around us were complaining about the temp as well
