My Fair Lady on Tour
With its jubilant revival of My Fair Lady, the Lincoln Center Theater's North American touring production gives audiences the opportunity to enjoy what many have called a "perfect" Broadway musical with new eyes and ears.
Lincoln Center's Tony-nominated revival opened in 2018 and won accolades for director Bartlett Sher's glorious new take on Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, about the platonic relationship that develops when arrogant linguistics professor Henry Higgins wagers he can transform cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a "proper lady." The musical's original Broadway production, starring Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison, premiered in 1956 and set a record for longest-running Broadway show. It has been revived many times, for good reason.
The new production stars Shereen Ahmed as Eliza Doolittle and Laird Mackintosh as Henry Higgins. Ahmed was an understudy in the Broadway production and frequently substituted for leading lady Laura Benanti. Mackintosh's most recent role was in the long-running Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera, whose title role he has also played more than 200 times.
About My Fair Lady the Musical
Lerner and Loewe were at first hesitant to adapt a play that apparently lacked a love story. They arrived at something even grander: a musical about two people whose lives are transformed by their mutual aspirations. They invested songs like "With a Little Bit of Luck," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" with both heart and humor, creating standards of near-universal appeal.
In a My Fair Lady described as "plush and thrilling" by The New York Times, director Bartlett Sher suggests that Eliza Doolittle's urge to reinvent herself is even more powerful than Henry Higgins' desire to win his bet. While Christopher Gattelli's choreography pays tribute to the original Broadway production, set designer Michael Yeargan emphasizes the opulence of Henry Higgins' home, through whose rooms actors roam on a revolving stage. The real magic in this My Fair Lady, however, is the acting and singing. There may not be a passionate romance at the heart of this timeless masterpiece, but there is chemistry aplenty.

Absolutely one of the best shows ever and performed so so so well !!! Loved it !!!
What an incredible production. The casting was perfect with great voices and acting. Production design was beautifully done. The orchestra was amazing. There's nothing like being there in person to have the experience of a live production. We saw My Fair Lady at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood which is special, too! Bravo to all involved...
Our first time at the Dolby, the staff was great, the seats were very good, we were in the Mezzanine, the sound perfect, next time we are planning for the orchestra but the production was just fabulous, the sets , the costumes, the performers we just kept saying wow, we laughed, we cried and we just enjoyed such a great performance, we caught it for a matinee at the end of the run, but the cast was so energized, we left feeling so wonderful, thank you Ticketmaster
think it comes close to being a perfect musical and easily the best of the "Golden Age" musicals I've ever seen. I first came to admire it when I saw a Broadway revival in 1981 which was designed to exactly recapture the original production. That said - I did have some gripes with this production. I hate the sound of the Dolby Theater. It was designed to house a Cirque du Soleil production, not for people speaking and singing from the stage. The opening orchestra sounds came entirely from the sound system and have just as well as been recorded. Opening dialog was echoey - there seemed to be so much gap between what came from the sound system and the actual speakers. Dolby, with 3400 seats, is even bigger than the oversized Pantages (2700). This production was designed for the Beaumont in New York which has 1200 seats - a third of the Dolby! They had to put giant panels in place to make the stage smaller. I also think that Higgins was miscast. He doesn't have a natural air of experience that colors his arrogance. He just comes off as a kind of a dope. Setting his closing number on the street rather in his study deprived him of his privacy when he is supposed to finally grow a little as he discovers he loves Eliza, and doesn't seem like he's really wrestling with his feelings. Which is just one song, but it's the culmination of his character.
The first part was rather long and lacked singing, after the intermission it got a little more fun but still not as entertaining as the movie
Great seating, good acoustics, easy parking, easier get away to freeway.all in all good venue
My Fair Lady is truly a classic in every sense. Although it is taking place in 1912 and written in the 1956, the first movie 1964, it is on stage in 2021 and it is still very relevant. The humor, sarcasm, irony, romance, and subject matter is truly timeless. A man remaking a woman as an experiment. This has reached new heights in current times. The staging is absolutely impeccable. Attention to detail on every level. The costumes are absolutely astounding. And the actors/singers are exceptionally talented and delivered an amazing show. It was a totally immersive experience. The theater and staff took every precaution possible to provide a safe environment and enjoyable night. I left in love with the time that I spent. What a joy!
The cast, the dancing, the orchestra, the sets, it was all so well done. I am so glad we went. The leading lady had a marvelous voice as did most of the cast. We had a great time.
Wonderful family birthday celebration for my daughter with my mother, her grandmother who played Mrs. Pearce in a “My Fair Lady” Production many years ago, before my daughter was born. My daughter is a Hollywood Entertainment Attorney and was very happy with the performance, the service and the theatre. 🎭 Thank you!
Loved the set! Great performances by cast. Beautifully presented! Unfortunately, my seat was broken and sitting at an angle for hours resulted in back and leg pain all night long!
The most wonderful Broadway play I’ve attended with excellent cast, singing, props, safety etc
Loved the show, location was pristine, the attendants were very professional
Excellent parking right under the theater; all people are nice. Excellent show. Venue is always beautiful!
Performers were highly skilled, staging was VERY creative, and dance numbers were well choreographed. So, why didn't I totally love it? Not sure. I was never grabbed by the heart and pulled into their world, so I left slightly disappointed.
Loved the sets, costumes. The actors, singers and dancers and the orchestra was first rate!
A fabulous 3 hours. The performance was superb, from staging to acting/singing. Very much appreciated the Covid regulations. However, I have one recommendation for Dolby ~ make it easier to exit theater into garage, perhaps by having all escalators working and in same direction.
Enjoyed the Dolby, the Play, and the Ticketmaster service. Everything was great. No problems. A very nice Saturday afternoon.
Getting there and through vaccine checks was relatively painless. The show was great, but when we went to leave, the lines for pay machines, the elevators and the escalators was insane. We finally paid our ticket and took the stairs to our car. We tried to back out of the spot for. 20 minutes and the line never moved more than 2 feet. At that point we decided we’d go upstairs and wait and get some coldstone or something at Johnny Rockets, only to find everything was closed except for Dave & Busters. Finally after 45 min we returned to our car. We thought the line was gone, but nope. By the time we made it to p3 there was a line again.at least it moved this time. I don’t know why they don’t allow prepaid parking or paying through an app on your phone, especially with Covid, because the crowds were very unsafe. Overall we’ll probably go back because we want to see the shows, but I suspect if this is normal we will go much less.
This presentation of My Fair Lady was fantastic from start to finish. All of the performers brought magic to the stage.
