My Fair Lady on Tour

With its jubilant revival of My Fair Lady, the Lincoln Center Theater's North American touring production gives audiences the opportunity to enjoy what many have called a "perfect" Broadway musical with new eyes and ears.

Lincoln Center's Tony-nominated revival opened in 2018 and won accolades for director Bartlett Sher's glorious new take on Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, about the platonic relationship that develops when arrogant linguistics professor Henry Higgins wagers he can transform cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a "proper lady." The musical's original Broadway production, starring Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison, premiered in 1956 and set a record for longest-running Broadway show. It has been revived many times, for good reason.

The new production stars Shereen Ahmed as Eliza Doolittle and Laird Mackintosh as Henry Higgins. Ahmed was an understudy in the Broadway production and frequently substituted for leading lady Laura Benanti. Mackintosh's most recent role was in the long-running Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera, whose title role he has also played more than 200 times.

About My Fair Lady the Musical

Lerner and Loewe were at first hesitant to adapt a play that apparently lacked a love story. They arrived at something even grander: a musical about two people whose lives are transformed by their mutual aspirations. They invested songs like "With a Little Bit of Luck," "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" with both heart and humor, creating standards of near-universal appeal.

In a My Fair Lady described as "plush and thrilling" by The New York Times, director Bartlett Sher suggests that Eliza Doolittle's urge to reinvent herself is even more powerful than Henry Higgins' desire to win his bet. While Christopher Gattelli's choreography pays tribute to the original Broadway production, set designer Michael Yeargan emphasizes the opulence of Henry Higgins' home, through whose rooms actors roam on a revolving stage. The real magic in this My Fair Lady, however, is the acting and singing. There may not be a passionate romance at the heart of this timeless masterpiece, but there is chemistry aplenty.

The director's subtle turn on Shaw's (et al) conclusion was deeply appreciated.

  • Wish I could have gone

by LS on 1/2/22Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 1 out of 5

This was my Christmas present from my parents, and the afternoon of the event, they emailed to say it was postponed to a day that I was not going to be in Seattle. I was not able to get refunded or a credit voucher for another show. As a result, the entire reason I made a trip to Seattle was lost as was the experience my parents were hoping to gift me. It was beyond disappointing.

Things went well transferring tickets, getting seated, and conditions in the theater. Voices were excellent. Very faithful to original versions. Sets were very effective and clever. Loved it. One of my favorite musicals ever!

  • Loved it.

Beautiful music and singing. Fantastic orchestra. I think, though, that the Paramount Theatre should upgrade their sound system.

Paramount staff is top notch! Volunteers who clearly love the theater…..and I’m so appreciative! My Fair Lady was 100% fabulous! The sets, costumes, direction, lighting, sound and acting were flawless. It’s a must see for anyone lucky enough to get a ticket.

I love this show but the sound clarity was not good. Hard to hear the dialog.

Sorry but we could not understand their language. There was not enough leg room for tall people. They knew their parts well & singing was excellent.

  • Wonderful show to end 2021 with!

by The Pomegranate Lady on 1/1/22Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

The show was unimaginable. Great play, impressive set design, and lightings. Highly recommended. p.s. Paramount theatre should ban chips inside their salon! The lady behind me made noise the entire show with her chips bag. I guess that was her way of not wearing the mask for the whole show! Very inconsiderate on so many levels!

  • Fabulous

Incredible talents with amazing voices, especially Eliza. Beautiful scenery.

  • Leads are weak, production is first class.

by David on 12/15/21ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 3 out of 5

The 2 lead characters are weak (Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins).

  • VERY SAD

    by B. C. on 12/15/21ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 2 out of 5

So let's start with COVID, lets start with I'm not a paranoid COVID extremist and yes masks were required. BUT the inability to go into the show 15 minutes before the program truely made for a chaotic scenario. If we had at least been seated you would have the left and right side of you only. NOT all around you.. I also bought tickets in the 2nd row from the stage and noticed that the seats themselves had way less stuffing on the seat. Looked in the row behind me(3rd row) there was more stuffing on the seat. I believe our ticket price reflected the same in the entire section. it was extremely uncomfortable, it was like sitting on a plank of wood.. VERY UPSET, especially for my 80 year old mother. Also very sadden at the increase of the tickets (can't say I'm surprised) The actors and singing, were phenomenal and did not disappoint

  • Fantastic Production!!

by Annib on 12/15/21ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

My Fair Lady is one of my daughter's favorite musicals, and this production did not disappoint! I took both of my daughters and we all loved it. There was not a weak voice on the stage. I highly recommend spending the time to see this show!!

  • My Fair Lady was a wonderful experience!

by lindalou on 12/15/21ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

The show provided us with a fun afternoon of entertainment. Though we were familiar with the movie, the performances in this show were truly amazing. All the leads had beautiful voices; the choreography was performed very well despite the limitations of the stage. The revolving sets were very detailed and drew us in. The costumes were very appropriate to the period and the play. We really enjoyed the performances.

  • My Fair Lady

Outstanding show - we loved every minute of it. The show and characters remained true to the movie, which is one of our favorites. Great time!

  • Really!?

by Rose on 12/15/21ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 4 out of 5

This is a wonderful classic performed beautifully with one exception. Why spoil a classic with a non classic insertion. It isn’t necessary and certainly detracts from the overall experience. I am talking about the two transvestites that were placed in the scene: Get Me to the Church on Time. Except for this it is near perfect. Good Luck to all on future performances.

  • good experience except watch how you are paying for parking

by ArizonaTim on 12/14/21ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 4 out of 5

Overall the ticketmaster app was good with one exception. After I purchased my tickets for the 12/11 performance of My Fair Lady I was given the option to purchase parking. I clicked on the parking button and purchased it. However the parking screen reset the date to the 12/7 performance (not 12/11) and I didn't notice that. Note to ticketmaster: when given the option to purchase parking for an event make it so the parking pass is automatically set to the date of the performance. Don't make the user have to pick the right date for the parking pass. I missed this as I thought the parking pass would automatically be set for my perfomance date.
