What is the Miami Open?

The Miami Open is a professional tennis tournament held annually in March in Miami, Florida that draws some of the top tennis talent on the men's and women's tours. Also known as the Miami Masters, it is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the men's tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour. The tennis event is held at Hard Rock Stadium where the NFL's Miami Dolphins play among other events. It was previously held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne just off the coast of Miami.

The event moved to Hard Rock Stadium after over $500 million was spent in renovations, including a new tennis campus featuring 29 permanent tournament and practice courts as well as additional food and entertainment facilities. The 14,000-seat center court within Hard Rock Stadium is designed for intimacy, luxury and a comfortable fan experience. A state-of-the-art in-stadium shade canopy and the largest video board in tennis offers a luxury seating experience.

  • Excellent organised event, we loved it!!

by Ruby on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Its was really good to attend matches on the smaller courts and see the player so close up, we felt as though we were walking among the giants, yet we also enjoyed the moments watching the players in the Stadium.

  • Great new facility

by DeRo on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

Although the Miami open is at a great new facility, I have to admit that I missed the intimacy of the old location! I think it will just take some getting used to for me!

  • Loved the Miami Open. Great venue and great tennis

by Great Showman! on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

We attended the evening session on Sunday, March 24. The venue is easy to get to, well organized with lots of volunteers and a great place to watch tennis. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the evening and will be back next year. Only complaint was the prices for food and beverages but it is expensive at most events.

  • Miami Open 2019

    by D on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

My wife and I attended the 03/22 to 03/25 sessions and had east side seats, generally in the lower sections, in the stadium. We did attend several matches on the grandstand and outer courts. The layout of the campus was excellent and the quality of food and service was very good. A little pricey. The stadium is cavernous and when, not full, looks very, very empty taking the fans out of the matches. The sound system was almost inaudible and one had to the read the trailers on the big screens. The two Federer matches we attended enjoyed larger crowds and the energy level of the fans improved. The distances between the seats, restrooms and concession areas resulted in missing some of the games due the inability to exit and return quickly. The outer courts were very intimate and fun once in a seat. The ingress/egress process was inefficient and the time between changeovers and sets not adequate to get everyone seated. The serve clocks were on the east side walls and not visible to everyone. All in all, we enjoyed the 4 days.

  • Unless you have lower bowl- do not buy 300 level stadium tic

by Marc on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

The Hard Rock new facility is amazing with the exception of the Stadium. I purchased 300 level and the seat was awful- so far removed from the game. I only remained for 1 set and then left and went to watch matches around the grounds. I would never again buy a stadium seat in the 300 level- better off just purchasing a ground pass. I used to have 300 level seats at the Key Biscayne site and they were so far superior. I was also disappointed that they took away the Kids Zone where kids could play on a tennis court. The food was much better and the parking was very easy. However they should ease up on the no outside food policy, in Key Biscayne you could bring fruit and snacks.

  • Needs work

    by t. j. on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

We were greeted by a wonderful staff which was consistent thoughout the event where we spent 2 days. Tickets were overpriced which I’m sure is why there were so many empty seats. It seams people purchase seats and try to resell for rediculous amounts-which doesn’t happen. The seats on the south side which are actually stadium seats have a lower rise than the stadium make for difficult viewing if a tall person is seated in front of you. With the exception of the grandstand several of the outer courts could have used more seating or perhaps the selection as to where matches were played should have been reviewed as lines were excessively long waiting to get in to see a match. The food was terrible and way overpriced. Few healthy options-no fish in Florida, no unsweetened iced tea in the South? I realize it’s the first year but I love tennis hate to see events ruined by greed. -Thom J

  • Nice facility with good parking

by Balls on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

Seemed like very few matches. Nice open areas. Had to wait thru first set to get into Fognini singles. Park and walk was great. Problem is no intimacy to surroundings.

  • Awesome!!!

by I. Ida on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Great facility, restaurants more space more accessible parking, to walk between the courts is better

  • Tastefully organized

by The Bobber on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

Great job setting up this event! The atmosphere of the plaing courts & outside areas was superb. Only complaint was exiting the car park where we waited over an hour to get out but I’m sure the organizers will fix that!

    by Dcmor5 on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was perfect. The stadium had great seats and in the shade. There were so many things to keep you entertained throughout the day. The food choices were great and the bartenders were knowledgeable. Absolutely enjoyed the day with my family.

  • what happened?

by kcp on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 2 out of 5

My friends and I went to Crandon Park last year to see the open. Great place! This year the hard rock arena though nice was too big! I hated our seats in the 210 section much too high up compared to Crandon Park. plus it was a hike to the bathrooms. We dont eat stadium food so that was bad!!! Crandon park had all the signature drinks for sale at the main stadium and hard rock just had beer and again overpriced concession stand drinks. Not enough good food vendors and not enough shade and umbrellas. lines were too long on Friday night for food. ended up eating ice cream for dinner. and where was Bacardi vendors?? I loved the Bacardi stands last year all over the grounds. Not enough good healthy food!! not enough specialty drink vendors and bad seats! Plus garbage all over the grandstand and throughout all the courts and stadiums. They need signs if carrying food in you must carry out!! it was disgusting at night sitting amongst everyones leftovers!!

  • Lots of improvements required

by Pedro on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 2 out of 5

    1. General Parking way too expensive. 2. Not enough restrooms, should provide more portable toilet stations a la Key Biscayne. 3. And restrooms were dirty, need to provide proper, constant, housekeeping as they did in Key Biscayne. 4. And there was no real cuban or latin flavor to the event. No place to buy a proper Mojito or Cuban coffee. That is not acceptable for a Miami event. Consider bringing back Latin American Cafe or similar. 5. There were plenty of trashcans which was good, BUT they were not emptied promptly. We saw many full trashcans and no one around doing pick-up. Really disgusting for such an upscale event.

  • Fun time

    by T. K. on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

The venue was nicely set up for lounging areas. We liked the music and turf areas for relaxing. The viewing of the outside courts needs improvement, you could just walk around and actually see tennis, you had to go into the courts. The US Open does a good job with fans able to see the matches without having to actually sit in the stands. There also weren’t a lot of matches going on which was shocking since it was the first Saturday of the tournament, we expected more tennis to be going on. Overall it was a nice place but maybe less courts and more tennis viewing would have made it better.

  • My Miami Open Experience

    by D. T. on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

I had a great time at the Miami Open. The venue was great which made the experience even better. The only complete I have is the cost for some of the food items, $5 & $7 for a bottle of water.

  • Love everything outside the stadium!

by Tennisfanbarb on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

Everything outside the stadium is awesome! Inside the stadium things are not as comfortable. Bathrooms are far, no water stations to refill, chairs you sit in move, sound not that clear! Next year I plan to buy tickets just for granstand and watch games on outer courts! Food options and spacing and practice courts are amazing!! Love the outside big screen!

  • Amazing Venue

by Scooter on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Great setup atmosphere food and drinks. Overall well worth it

  • The employees are the nicest

by Captain Kirk on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

The stadium is nice. The amount of companies selling is too much. The food is very overpriced. However, the best thing is the employees as they are very nice.

  • dont build a stadium within another stadium

by tennis on 3/26/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

I personally don’t think the relocation to hardrock stadium was a good move. basically, the small tennis stadium, built within the larger football stadium seems lost. one is staring at empty seats (of the unused football stadium) and apart from that it feels like an improvised solution. the games were good though, and the surrounding area was better designed.
