What is the Miami Open?

The Miami Open is a professional tennis tournament held annually in March in Miami, Florida that draws some of the top tennis talent on the men's and women's tours. Also known as the Miami Masters, it is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the men's tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour. The tennis event is held at Hard Rock Stadium where the NFL's Miami Dolphins play among other events. It was previously held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne just off the coast of Miami.

The event moved to Hard Rock Stadium after over $500 million was spent in renovations, including a new tennis campus featuring 29 permanent tournament and practice courts as well as additional food and entertainment facilities. The 14,000-seat center court within Hard Rock Stadium is designed for intimacy, luxury and a comfortable fan experience. A state-of-the-art in-stadium shade canopy and the largest video board in tennis offers a luxury seating experience.

  • Experience at "new" venue

by Frank on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Generally speaking I had a great experience at the Hard Rock Stadium. Some issues with the parking but besides that the rest of the experience was excellent. Open areas to relax, good food vendors, I missed the vodka lemonade, stores all around, plenty tables to eat, a huge big screen and another smaller available in the premises create all together a real cool environment that force me to be back next year to enjoy another sessions of good tennis. I was surprised with the stadium and I was not expecting everything to be so good after so many years attending the Crandon Park but is is possible, congratulations and see you next year.

  • Awesome grounds

by Linny on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

I’ve been going to the miami open for 20 years! I miss Crandon park but the grounds at hard rock were a huge improvement! However the stadium was awful. The sun was unbearable because there was no air. Next year you have to switch sides or add air. The stands were empty because of this.

Not even rain could dampen the experience of seeing the GOAT, Roger Federer. And, then, the wonderful experience of seeing Venus Williams after Roger. They are both legends and wonderful examples of sportsmanship, whether they win or lose. It was a wonderful afternoon in a wonderful stadium and grandstand.

  • New Miami Open a far cry from Crandon Park

    by M. G. on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

No water. I guess at $5 a bottle no fountains to refill. This is a safety issue. Dehydration in south Florida is a problem and sitting in sun drenched outer court stands sets one up for it. Court 1 a hike into The hinterlands. A 15 minute journey from there to the 200 level seats. Ours in Crandon were angled for easy view here one must turn 45 degrees to see presenting one with neck and back problems. Acoustics were terrible one could not understand announcements and forget about the umpire. Late in the afternoon I thought lights should be on since the court was a dark pit. I took off sunglasses, seats in the sun, to see the ball. Vendors seemed unprepared 12 minutes after ordering to receive a $13 brisket sandwich. I was surprised the iconic colors of aqua and orange were not present. An orange surround courts w/ aqua background would make it “Miami”. No app. Awkward to go from “open” web page to WTA and ATP to get player information. Over all the new site is like going to a big city from a comfortable small town. I know it’s all about money but I missed being the old site. I realize this is Year One but since Blake is the director why did I feel this was put on by football people. Think tennis and plan appropriately Year two. I will give it a go next year but may return to Tennis Channel Plus to really see tennis.

We have no problems with parking. Everything was perfect. The weather was great and the art exhibit was captivating - I’ve never seen anything like that

  • Great new Digs

by PAS on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Great Digs. The new venue was great. Lots of places to visit and sit for a while. Great atmosphere in the bars. The stadium seats were nice and offered a bit more shade for afternoon matches which was needed. They need to get some shade for the Grandstand court. Overall great experience.

  • All about the money

by Kpduties on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

I travel with a friend who is a double amputee. For the past 20 years at Crandon park, ADA parking was free. This year they charged us 40 dollars to park. The event itself is new but very concrete oriented. No real grass. Very little shade. It seemed the first week was busy and for the later rounds became more and more sparse. Not sure people really enjoyed the new venue.

  • The stadium is to big

    by J. V. on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

The entrance is to far to the other courts, the food was really bad

  • PG Tennis Girls Annual Miami Open

by MML on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

Another great tennis open in a beautiful new venue. Lots of pretty open areas ad well as great seating areas. It was spread out. The restroom facilities were more than adequate and well maintained. The grandstand seats were comfortable. Lots of court choices for viewing the matches. AWESOME VOLUNTEERS! Areas needing improvement: 1. Parking - prices outrageous and need to be reconsidered. Also, better signage for parking; 2. Food - prices are a bit high; 3. Water - expensive if you purchase water; 4. Seating in grandstand - there was no control with patrons sitting in reserved seats so general admission ticket holders sat in the reserved seating area. A designated reserved seats only should be implemented; 5. Separate designated entry/exit for courts. We will be back next year!

  • New Miami Open

by Pinho on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

the new Miami open was amazing for me and friends except for one point: the smallers courts needs more space for the fans.

  • Tickets too expensive

    by S. A. on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

Good experience. My first time in this Open. The tickets are expensive to go several days to the good matches.

  • Everythng gorgeous but.......

by Mauro Muscella on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

The village is spectacular, the parking is really close the event, but (25,00$) for the evening is really too much, considering the time of stay. Main stadium, from the permanent structure “east gate”, has an obstructed vision from many rows, because the hand rail of stairs, designed for a field located at a different a larger point, makes many rows unusable. Best regards

  • A Mostly Positive Experience

by NYC Girl on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

The “new” Miami Open, at the Hard Rock Stadium (home of the football Miami Dolphins) offers a mostly positive fan experience. The grounds are surprisingly attractive (built over the Dolphins’ parking lots), with spacious “paseos” for walking around, varied and mostly excellent food and beverage choices. More shade (whether provided by more umbrella/table combinations, tents or palm trees) would be nice. The negatives: the “erector set” main stadium made of metal gets sooo hot (my shoes stuck to the “floor”). Also the tournament previously offered a shuttle from official hotels; this should be reinstated. Not only would it be more environmentally friendly, the rideshare options were chaotic, with no clear signage for drop off or pick up. Finally, staff were uniformally pleasant but often clueless, resulting in terrible directions or other messaging. These latter 2 points are easily addressed—and I hope they are during future years

  • Parking

by Alec on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

It was very confusing when it came to buying parking tickets. They had two different prices and did not specify the differences between them.

  • Great Experience

    by A. C. on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

I thought the tournament would lose something when it moved from Key Biscayne, but it greatly exceeded my expectations. The drive was easier, the parking was much better and it was easier moving around from court to court.

  • Amazing

    by g. o. on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible location, very confortable place and the excelent organization

  • Miami Open Review

    by K. B. on 3/27/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

I really liked everything about it this year, other than the main stadium, which did not have any of the intimate and open feel of the Key Biscayne main stadium. The outer courts were great for viewing in the early days of the tournament.
