What is the Miami Open?

The Miami Open is a professional tennis tournament held annually in March in Miami, Florida that draws some of the top tennis talent on the men's and women's tours. Also known as the Miami Masters, it is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the men's tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour. The tennis event is held at Hard Rock Stadium where the NFL's Miami Dolphins play among other events. It was previously held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne just off the coast of Miami.

The event moved to Hard Rock Stadium after over $500 million was spent in renovations, including a new tennis campus featuring 29 permanent tournament and practice courts as well as additional food and entertainment facilities. The 14,000-seat center court within Hard Rock Stadium is designed for intimacy, luxury and a comfortable fan experience. A state-of-the-art in-stadium shade canopy and the largest video board in tennis offers a luxury seating experience.

    Our 2019 MO Experience

    by J. C. on 3/25/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

I loved the layout of the campus, it had ease of navigation. I spent much of my time on the outer courts and Grandstand. Scoreboards could be easier to read from the stands. The staffs seem to adapt to how to get folks in and out of the stands. As expected there was a great varity of top players and rising talent. We had high seats and I would not be able to give a fair assessment of the Stadium Court, overall it wasn’t a great experience. Looking forward to next year!

    Good tournament

by jaforna on 3/25/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

It has been a good tournament but the sight is not as cozy as Key Biscaine. There is room for improvements.

    Easy Breezy Day

by Miami Open Tennis Fan on 3/25/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

My tennis buddies and I had a fabulous day at the Miami Open on Friday March 22nd....with a ground pass we were able to see all the new up and coming stars starting with Amanda Anisimova at 11 AM sharp. Then a wonderful lunch at the East Terrace overlooking the courts. Venus Williams did not disappoint at 2 pm in the Grandstand. Follower by Nick Kyrgios. But I could not miss seeing Sofia Kenin vs Bianca Andreescu at 3 PM on Court 2. and Felix Auger Aliassime on Court 8. We ended our day with a very entertaining doubles match on Court 9 featuring John Isner and S Querrey. Where else could I have so much tennis fan fun for a $50 ground pass. The new facilities are fresh and easy. No more buss trips to the parking lot or struggles on 95 south to Miami. It was easy to walk between courts. The maps and match schedule freely given at entry made all seem easy to negotiate. The design features fresh new facilities with a decided Miami vibe. Two thumbs up.

    Great tennis experience

by SABBK on 3/25/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

We never made it to Key Biscayne, this was our first time to the toyrnament and it met our expectations. The stadium is beautiful, grandstand and BB courts are great. Other courts could use more seating. Food was very expensive with few healthy options. The only sitdown option was the East Lawn which was very nice, we ate there twice. Restroom facilities plentiful, nicer inside the stadium. Crowds were enthusiastic, very international mix, made it fun. This being the first year, I'm sure there will be improvements for next year. We will be back for sure. (Weather was perfect)

    Drop Shots

by G&K on 3/25/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Overall our experience was very good. The outside venue was very pleasant and enjoyable. Plenty of free space and food choices. Prices were very reasonable for this type of event. Outside of the stadium the restrooms were clean, staff were very helpful. The 'drop shots' were the stands were not cleaned from the day before and bottles, cups and litter accumulated. There was a lack of water filling stations which would cut down on the empties and reduce your costs of $5 water. Also, it would have been nice to know that you didn't need a ticket to get a seat in the Grandstand. Parking was easy and plentiful. The stadium itself had a great merchandise shop and was relatively east to get around. However, the PA system was very poor. The visual information displays left a lot to be desired. Has anyone noticed that orange is a lousy contrast background to display information against? Why the upcharging for the same refreshments on the 'club' level. $13 for the same $10 beer elsewhere. The pricing is too high. The stands were mostly empty. You should fill the stands to create a better atmosphere for both the fans and the players. One last comment. The bag check was very inconsistent. We purchased a regulation NFL clear bag policy bag to take with us. Yet the number or regular bags and backpacks was overwhelming. Overall, a solid performance for the first time at a new venue. I don't think the stadium within the stadium works.

    Really disappointed experience

by Estella on 3/25/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Stadium is not in good condition and everything is much worse than US Open. If you are a true tennis fan, US Open is the better choice.

    by H. D. on 3/25/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

    Great venue

by Millie on 3/25/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Kudos to the developers and tournament director, James Blake for putting on a great ‘show’. To have launched this venue is such a short time frame, felt it was a great job done. Easy maneuverability around, plenty of restroom facilities that were kept very clean by the service staff. Suggestions ... more food trucks would offer more variety of food. More seating scattered around the grounds would be nice and helpful. Staff assigned to keeping grounds pass holders from sitting in reserved seats had an impossible task! We had five seats in the grandstand (14/10/10-14) ... if one or more left, we had to constantly tell people NO! Too many rows for one person to handle. Perhaps dedicate one of the less desireable sections to them ... or more staff per aisle.

    Good venue

by The cursed one on 3/24/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

The stadium is very nice. The courts are easy to get into. There is good space for walking. But, turn down the music! The music from one court is heard too far away. Also, some of the rap tunes are not appropriate for children to hear, or even some adults. Also, the food stands need more signage with what is being served and the pricing.

Great tennis; too many people; not enough seating on courts

by S. on 3/24/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Great tennis. Loved watching the players play. Had to wait in lines for certain matches for almost 1 hour; then courts were changed at last minute due to prior long matches. Seating on only one side of courts on many courts. Facility was great but need more stands surrounding all courts. Food was very expensive.

    Disappointed in the main stadium

by RickyG on 3/24/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

I want to start by applauding the move to the North Miami location. The ease of getting to the event doesn’t waste a bunch of time. We did not like the setup of the main stadium. Using the original stadium seating does not work well and I wouldn’t purchase seats there again. Also, the in-stadium concessions did not work for this type of event. Food was not available quick and half the time not at all. Never had so much difficulty getting popcorn.
