What is the Miami Open?

The Miami Open is a professional tennis tournament held annually in March in Miami, Florida that draws some of the top tennis talent on the men's and women's tours. Also known as the Miami Masters, it is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the men's tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour. The tennis event is held at Hard Rock Stadium where the NFL's Miami Dolphins play among other events. It was previously held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne just off the coast of Miami.

The event moved to Hard Rock Stadium after over $500 million was spent in renovations, including a new tennis campus featuring 29 permanent tournament and practice courts as well as additional food and entertainment facilities. The 14,000-seat center court within Hard Rock Stadium is designed for intimacy, luxury and a comfortable fan experience. A state-of-the-art in-stadium shade canopy and the largest video board in tennis offers a luxury seating experience.

by Jan on 4/3/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

We loved going to Key Biscayne for this event the past 15+ years. We were a little upset at first with the move and we were pleasantly surprised with the event. The Hard Rock was a great place. Only complaint-- the PA system needs some work. All announcements were muffled and hard to hear.

  • Great event, looking forward to attending again next year!

Stadium set-up was excellent! Lacoste and other vendors were very good. Good food, great picture opportunities (Guga was there!). Bryan Bros Band was a highlight! Lots of friendly volunteers. Traffic flow in and out well done.

  • Miami Open 2019 Tennis

    by SilviBet17 on 4/2/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 2 out of 5

This is the first year that the Miami Open tournament took place at the Hard Rock Stadium. For me, it was a disappointment because it lacked the tennis feeling that is necessary to enjoy it for what it is. The Hard Rock Stadium is an American football stadium and the atmosphere is 100% football. Also, the parking was outrageously expensive at $40.00 or $30.00 if you purchased it ahead of time, online. I will not come back next year, it is much easier to watch on television. I miss the days of Key Biscayne.

  • Women's Finals

    by N. S. on 4/2/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

Beautiful venue, lots of options for entertainment, plenty of room Stadium conversion was brilliant, couldn't tell without looking closely it was a football stadium Parking extremely organized, lots of attendants for parking Very easy access right off the TPike so the drive was not stressful Very friendly, helpful parking, ticket agents & greeters Classy event My only complaints were: PA system was not good, could not hear or understand anything--good that we could read it on the monitor; would like to have the option of non-alcoholic beer; disappointed that I bought ticket early at a price I could afford then toward the date of the event, what I paid for in the 300+ seats was then being charged for the 200 level seats. I wish I could've moved down closer because there were a lot of empty seats. I could've taken my chances and waited but wanted to get a sure ticket.

  • great venue, bad day

by sam on 4/2/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

the new location for the open was amazing, however with the wind and sporadic rain we were u able to watch not even 1 match. got there at 11am since we had tickets for the 1pm match. the matches did not begin until 5pm. i paid for a seat i never got to sit in. when in the stadium why not use the retractable roof. i don’t get my money back and bad experience for me. ive gone nearly every year for the past decade.

  • Overprized

by Itidi on 4/2/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

The parking cost was excesive and everything inside too. There was a no re-entry policy, but this is a tennis event from 9am to almost 2am in the morning, not a football or nba game which you go for 2 to 3 hours top. You spent the whole day on the venue, you should be able to exit and return as much as you need, just like it was before and like it is in the US Open, so please consider. Also there should be a diferent parking option available, instead of having to pay up to $40 everyday.

  • TENNIS FAN

by DEE DEE on 4/2/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

LOVED THE TENNIS VENUE, GROUNDS VERY NICE AND EASY TO GET AROUND PARKING WAS A BREEZE , AND I THOUGHT ORGANIZED FOR EASY IN AND OUT. EMPLOYEES VERY HELPFUL AND NICE SEATING. WILL BE BACK.

  • Courts Distribution

by Luije on 4/2/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

The new venue was great! But, they need to figure out how to distribute the seating better. The Stadium Court has way too many empty seats, the Grandstand was overflowing at times, and the Butch court hardly had enough seating depending on who was playing. Maybe dividing the stadium into two main Stadium Courts could help. Or having more than one Grandstand and less little practice courts? Just a thought. But the overall experience was really enjoyable. Loved The Grove area!

  • I missed Key Biscayne

    by A. C. on 4/1/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 2 out of 5

1- Parking: very good. Comfortable and easy access to and from the tennis center. 2-Grand Stadium: we haven't been at the stadium for a match, but have checked it. I do not think that this patch to the Hard Rock football stadium is good for watching tennis. Not at all. I believe that a Master 1000 cannot be held in a football stadium. 3-Grandstand: ok. Probably with more capacity than the Key Biscayne grandstand. 4-Smaller stadiums: not good. Very small place for fans in several of them. 5-Start time: I do not see the point in starting later in the Grand Stadium and the Grandstand than in the smaller courts. It was crowded in all of them until the main events started. All in all, not bad, but I missed Key Biscayne a lot.

  • Very mediocre fan experience.

    by r. k. on 4/1/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 2 out of 5

What was with all the empty seats courtside and be in by the shade. No crowd energy. Bad looking on tv worse in person. Bad for players. Not for me, a US Open subscriber

  • Should be full refund if session is cancelled

    by F. M. on 4/1/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

Due to weather conditions, session 16 was cancelled and rescheduled for the next day. If something like this happen, the full refund possibility shoud be an option. The only two options were change tickets for the next day session or just simply loose the tickets. Pretty much disorganization in the event. Watching Federer was delightful, but the cancellation options really bothered me.

  • Great event well organized with very competent staff

by Hutti on 4/1/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

First of all congratulations to the organizers of this years MIA Open! I think it was important that the event stayed in Miami. Seemingly this was only possible with the extraordinary effort put in by the Stadium owner (Mr. Ross?) and the tournament director (Mr. Blake?) along with all their collaborators and sponsors. Congratulations also to the stadium staff which where extremely friendly and helpful. I would have given you a top rating but one star was deducted due the parking problem in the sense that most parking spaces seem far away and no real ground tansportation is in place, in particular little to no assistance for handicapped which may need some assistance from the parking facilities and not near the entrance gates. A further inconvenience are the sections which are exposed to the sun till later in the afternoon. While you do mention “obstructed views” for some sections nothing is mentioned to sections exposed to the sun with no to little ventilation. Again congratulations to the beautiful event and I hope to be back again next year!

  • Excellent

Farther, but excellent Place for an important like this.

  • New venue still needs work

by Jim 1950 on 4/1/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

It was all about the new venue. Of course nothing will compare well with Crandon, but I wanted to see for myself. I had tickets for the men’s semi and final and the women’s final - all in the stadium. They have erected temporary seating for the two short ends and one long side. The other long side ( turns out to be the shady side) is the original football stadium seating. That is where I was for the two men’s events - on the 200 level. You feel a long way from the court because it has such a shallow slope. Also there is a roof right in front of the seating which you have to look over and past which is a bit disconcerting. So I would not sit there again. For the women’s final I was in 215 at the end to the right of the umpires chair which was fine. Beyond the seating the good thing about the stadium is that all the facilities of the football stadium are available- catering, rest rooms, escalators, massive TV screens, TVs in the rest rooms etc. so it is pretty well equipped for a tennis event. Also what I call the tennis village which takes up part of the parking lot is nicely done. Access is great. Very easy in and out straight from the turnpike.

  • New venue is great

    by G. on 4/1/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

The arrangement of the courts and the common area is well thought out. For first time users of the Hard Rock stadium, figuring out how to get around was confusing. More signage needed. Also we had difficulty finding our car on leaving even though we knew the row it was parked in spending about 20-30 minutes searching. That said, everything else was outstanding. Top notch court layout, lots of space in the food/merchandise area. Screen for viewing were great. Rain delay seemed excessive as I couldn't understand why a tarp wasn't employed to cover the stadium or grandstand courts which could have speeded up the drying process. Drying seemed to take an excessive amount of time.

  • Easygoing latin vibe at Miami tennis

by TTJ on 4/1/19Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Convenient location, easy bookings, stadium quite user friendly. Staff helpful and welcoming form parking to stands. Great food options on the grounds and atmosphere (music ambience, seating all great). For doubles events, Director should allow spectators to "move closer" to the courts as was the case during the women's doubles final. Another suggestion would be to have the women play ahead of the men's final--to get a bigger crowd, especially as doubles is so much fun to watch (same for men's the previous day--can start at 11am and have the finals still at 1pm or 2pm). It was my first and will be back!
