What is the Miami Open?

The Miami Open is a professional tennis tournament held annually in March in Miami, Florida that draws some of the top tennis talent on the men's and women's tours. Also known as the Miami Masters, it is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the men's tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour. The tennis event is held at Hard Rock Stadium where the NFL's Miami Dolphins play among other events. It was previously held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne just off the coast of Miami.

The event moved to Hard Rock Stadium after over $500 million was spent in renovations, including a new tennis campus featuring 29 permanent tournament and practice courts as well as additional food and entertainment facilities. The 14,000-seat center court within Hard Rock Stadium is designed for intimacy, luxury and a comfortable fan experience. A state-of-the-art in-stadium shade canopy and the largest video board in tennis offers a luxury seating experience.

Nice place, but Crandon had a more tennis atmosphere

by Fábio on 3/29/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

HRS is great place, easy access and lots of places for bites, much better than Crandon, however, the Crandon Stadium had a better atmosphere. And also at Crandon It seems the weather is better, usually doesn’t shower, although both places are in the same city.

Loved the tennis, hated the still air.

by jan on 3/29/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

I loved the venue. I loved the tennis matches that I saw. My stadium seats however had a glare from the metal steps so bright that I could not see at times and had to go out. I will not sit in this section again 207. Mist fans for cooling and moving air would have been helpful on the grounds where the eateries and tents were set up. The fake grass was very warm. Overall, I will be there next year. Can't wait.

    Hot

by Bucky on 3/29/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Absolutely superb event and stadium for tennis. Cannot fault the fantastic organisation of the entire event from all the staff in every avenue. Food available was delicious . My only gripe was the total lack of water fountains in visible positions , on an extremely hot day we spent $40 on water and were still dehydrated... This is not as it should be where it is vital for everyone to maintain a good level of hydration, especially children and more elderly people.... This needs addressing please .. we were visiting this event specifically travelling from U.K., where at Wimbledon this is not an issue, despite rarely enjoying the wonderful temperatures that we experienced in Miami.

    Miami Open Tennis

by E. on 3/29/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Overall I'm very impressed with the new Miami Open. Kudos to the organizers. One major complaint however, the cost of parking is outrageous.

    Too expensive

by RFB on 3/29/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

The venue and the event were very good. However the ticket prices and parking for $40 were too expensive. It is priced equal or above a grand slam event, and it is only a Masters 1000 event

Had a great time watching top players

by BrianM on 3/29/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

We were on the third level but could see everything clearly. The place was immaculate and we were able to find our way around the grounds with ease.

    Great New Venue

    by M. G. on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

This was my first trip to the Miami Open and I was impressed with the venue. Parking was easy and close, plenty of places to eat and shop, They did a great job in configuring the stadium for tennis use. Great experience.

    Great tennis, disappointing venue

by DaveW on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

We really enjoyed the tennis. We were able to get excellent seats at Court 1 and the Grandstand and saw great matches in the Grandstand. The new venue at Hard Rock Stadium is disappointing. Too much space means a lot of walking. Everyone I talked to who had seats in the Stadium was disappointed by how far they were from the court. Also the prices for good seats in the Stadium were too high. The food choices at Hard Rock were not to our liking and everything is over-priced. We very much prefer the Crandon Park location of previous years.

Good but not as great as previous venue

by Marcelo on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Been a steady fan of this tournament for the last 20 years. The new venue is more convenient in terms of access and parking but: - food and drinks outrageously expensive - water fountains almost non-existent, and most importantly - access to practice courts are very limited (only some high bleachers on the back) - hence the experience is pretty poor. I miss the old venue !!!

    Miami

by J. on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Fun event and the new vibe at hard rock stadium is fun. Getting around was easy and the practice courts were nicely organized. I had no problems getting seats at all the matches I wanted to watch. I had three complaints. 1. I don’t like the recliner seats in front row of main stadium unless the king of Siam cones to see a game. 2. The aluminum floor in the main stadium was very reflective and hot during day matches. 3. Getting into the main stadium seating was confusing and attendants didn’t seem to know either. Otherwise, big thumbs up and well done on new location.

    Experience at "new" venue

by Frank on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Generally speaking I had a great experience at the Hard Rock Stadium. Some issues with the parking but besides that the rest of the experience was excellent. Open areas to relax, good food vendors, I missed the vodka lemonade, stores all around, plenty tables to eat, a huge big screen and another smaller available in the premises create all together a real cool environment that force me to be back next year to enjoy another sessions of good tennis. I was surprised with the stadium and I was not expecting everything to be so good after so many years attending the Crandon Park but is is possible, congratulations and see you next year.

    Awesome grounds

by Linny on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

I’ve been going to the miami open for 20 years! I miss Crandon park but the grounds at hard rock were a huge improvement! However the stadium was awful. The sun was unbearable because there was no air. Next year you have to switch sides or add air. The stands were empty because of this.

    G>O>A>T>

by cher on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Not even rain could dampen the experience of seeing the GOAT, Roger Federer. And, then, the wonderful experience of seeing Venus Williams after Roger. They are both legends and wonderful examples of sportsmanship, whether they win or lose. It was a wonderful afternoon in a wonderful stadium and grandstand.

New Miami Open a far cry from Crandon Park

    by M. G. on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

No water. I guess at $5 a bottle no fountains to refill. This is a safety issue. Dehydration in south Florida is a problem and sitting in sun drenched outer court stands sets one up for it. Court 1 a hike into The hinterlands. A 15 minute journey from there to the 200 level seats. Ours in Crandon were angled for easy view here one must turn 45 degrees to see presenting one with neck and back problems. Acoustics were terrible one could not understand announcements and forget about the umpire. Late in the afternoon I thought lights should be on since the court was a dark pit. I took off sunglasses, seats in the sun, to see the ball. Vendors seemed unprepared 12 minutes after ordering to receive a $13 brisket sandwich. I was surprised the iconic colors of aqua and orange were not present. An orange surround courts w/ aqua background would make it “Miami”. No app. Awkward to go from “open” web page to WTA and ATP to get player information. Over all the new site is like going to a big city from a comfortable small town. I know it’s all about money but I missed being the old site. I realize this is Year One but since Blake is the director why did I feel this was put on by football people. Think tennis and plan appropriately Year two. I will give it a go next year but may return to Tennis Channel Plus to really see tennis.

It was a great way to celebrate birthday

    Great new Digs

by 10S Fan on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

Great Digs. The new venue was great. Lots of places to visit and sit for a while. Great atmosphere in the bars. The stadium seats were nice and offered a bit more shade for afternoon matches which was needed. They need to get some shade for the Grandstand court. Overall great experience.

    All about the money

by Kpduties on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

I travel with a friend who is a double amputee. For the past 20 years at Crandon park, ADA parking was free. This year they charged us 40 dollars to park. The event itself is new but very concrete oriented. No real grass. Very little shade. It seemed the first week was busy and for the later rounds became more and more sparse. Not sure people really enjoyed the new venue.

    The stadium is to big

    by J. V. on 3/28/19Hard Rock Stadium - Miami

The entrance is to far to the other courts, the food was really bad
