What is the Miami Open?

The Miami Open is a professional tennis tournament held annually in March in Miami, Florida that draws some of the top tennis talent on the men's and women's tours. Also known as the Miami Masters, it is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the men's tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour. The tennis event is held at Hard Rock Stadium where the NFL's Miami Dolphins play among other events. It was previously held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne just off the coast of Miami.

The event moved to Hard Rock Stadium after over $500 million was spent in renovations, including a new tennis campus featuring 29 permanent tournament and practice courts as well as additional food and entertainment facilities. The 14,000-seat center court within Hard Rock Stadium is designed for intimacy, luxury and a comfortable fan experience. A state-of-the-art in-stadium shade canopy and the largest video board in tennis offers a luxury seating experience.

First times at Miami Open. Every experience was wonderful. All volunteers were friendly, helpful and polite. We didn't have any bad experiences. We're looking forward to going back another year.

  • Organization

by MIGUEL on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

Actually a general lack of organization: Parking entrance is terrible, to buy. a ticket even worse and big lines to enter!!! Terrible experience!

  • Great tennis

by Mitch on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the food options was really lacking. Especially since if you go to the morning and the evening you need to stay around. I’d like to see some more healthy options.

  • Wonderful Tennis Event

The event was very well run. Access was easy, everything was clean, staff was helpful.

  • Poor handicap parking

by Brooklyn boy on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

My wife and I saw two matches (Stadium Court) on the 23rd and they were fine. Seats were very good and we got to see Elena Rybakina who we both like. Tennis is not the problem with this venue. We inquired on the phone about handicap parking and was told just show your handicap placard and we would be fired to the handicap parking. Well, first, the attendant said I would have to pay for valet parking. I told this dodo that I already paid $30 for parking so he said okay and directed me to an area that was at least 1/2 mile from the entrance to the stadium. Not only that, there were many steps up and down before you get to the Stadium. So, for me and my wife (84 and 80) who have multiple medical problems (that’s why we wanted handicap parking), walking long distances is very problematic for us. On our trek toward the stadium we passed numerous empty handicap parking spots that were right near the stadium. We were extremely disappointed and had to stop and rest several times before we got to our seats. We traveled 3 1/2 hours to get to the tournament and then have to deal with the problems we faced makes it clear that we’ll watch next years tourney on TV.

  • Awful

by Terry on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

I should have been offered parking passes with the tickets. After paying $40 for parking and asking if there were disabled parking available ( close parking had to be bought with the tickets), we got out of the car and realized it was more than a mile just to get to the event. So $88 for tickets and $40 for parking we had to turn around go back to the car and go home and watch it on TV. Not a good experience for a disabled veteran. Sad.

  • Not as advertised

by RickyG on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

We have been coming for years and the advertising hype doesn’t translate to the experience expected. The entry experience is probably as good as it can get given the facilities. The food vendors seemed worse compared to prior years with limited options. The MO brand merchandise is not very good quality. At least LaCoste provided an alternative.

  • Tennis was great as well as the venue.

by Lynn on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 3 out of 5

Why do we have to purchase tickets through ticketmaster with a $12 surcharge per ticket? I will give the matches a 3 star rating because of Ticketmaster,

  • Miami Open

by Bart on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

An enjoyable day with a few hiccups. Was double charged for parking pass, trying to resolve through bank. Women be careful of purse size or you will not be allowed entry. Once inside the gate things got much better. Nice atmosphere, good tennis and many food/drink options. Watched Shelton/Paul dbls match from adjacent court along with hundreds of other fans as their smaller court was filled to capacity. Give dbls some respect and put high draw matches on a bigger court.

  • Miami Open Tennis

by Jerry on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

Very exciting and pleasing experience at the Miami Open. I took the Brightline from Ft, Lauderdal to Adventura, hopped on a shuttle bus to Hard Rock Stadium. I was curious to see how a football stadium would be transformed into a tennis stadium. To my discovery, when Hard Rock was being built, the builders knew the tennis tournament would be held there and built a beautiful football and tennis mecca. Layed out beautifully, easy to maneuver around and enjoy. I enjoyed the practices, the play, food and atmosphere. I would definitely go back to the Miami Open.

  • Fabulous experience! Would like better seating options.

by Cynthia on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

The Miami Open should develop better seating options to allow for more individual purchase of seats during the two weeks. Besides, it makes the tournament look bad to see so many empty seats during the first week that could have been filled.

i think the parking is too expensive, $40 for parking is too much.

  • Tennis quality time¡

by Fergus on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

It has been a great experience, tennis wise, for us seeing high level tennis in small courts has been priceless, having the chance to have the players near us, fluid flow of people from court to court. The only "but"would be for the type of food, for us has been bad quality and expensive, sorry we eat very well in Basque Country...but all in all I do recommend it¡¡¡

  • Good value experience

by Jimpup on 3/26/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

Great stadium, nicely set up. Extensive options for food etc. We were caught out by the clear bag policy and only small handbags which was randomly enforced. Fine if there were enough lockers but on our second trip there weren’t!

  • Disappointed

by Sannie on 3/25/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 1 out of 5

Parking was a nightmare. Queues for about 30mins to get in. Absolute bottleneck. Tennis was fine. Not impressed with hard rock stadium, preferred Crandon park. Nicer all round experience. Interestingly no metal water bottles, but in the stadium water is sold in??????metal bottles. No plans to return in future and leave over an hour to park. Access out was same.

  • Not the Best Tournament

by Tennis Fan 335 on 3/25/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 2 out of 5

The Miami Open Tennis Tournament is held at the hard Rock Stadium, the home of the Miami Dolphins, in Miami Gardens. We have attended the US Open, the Australian Open and the Canadian Open tennis tournaments. The Miami Open is our least favorite. As travellers not familiar with the Miami area we found that the advance information available on the tournament website was confusing at best and lacking in much detail. For example, a detailed grounds map was not available on the site until the week before the tournament. While purchasing tickets was straight forward we had to go through a lot of hoops to find and then purchase parking for the days we were going. And the parking map was also not available until the parking tickets themselves were available. We specifically purchased in advance clear plastic bags of the required dimensions once we found that ordinary back packs and fanny packs were not allowed. However, once on site the security people hardly even looked at the bags, leaving us to wonder whether this was all really necessary. And while our grounds passes were scanned for general admission, our stadium passes were barely looked at, let alone scanned. Our impression was that the on site staff were poorly trained and indifferent. Then there is the food and beverage issue. Talk about price gouging - $5 for a bottle of water and $16 for a beer. And none of the vendors could give you a receipt, not even by text or email. At home, by law, a receipt has to be given. The shops were nice and well stocked, but again - price gouging. $60 for a Lacoste ball cap! And all the clothing and tennis gear were equally pricey. The grounds were very nice and we particularly enjoyed the Grandstand Court. The Stadium Court inside the Hard Rock Stadium left us feeling like we'd been to a match in a poorly converted warehouse. The tournament would be better off with its own proper stadium court like Indian Wells or other similar tennis venues. Overall we would rate the experience as poor in comparison to other tennis tournaments and would not recommend it or return again.

  • Miami Tennis Tournament A+... Parking C-

    by J. J. on 3/25/23Hard Rock Stadium - MiamiRating: 4 out of 5

The Miami Open Tennis tournament is amazing. Great access to courts and top notch tennis. Watching the players warm up is exciting so get there early as it will be packed for top players. Lots to eat and drink: bring your credit card... drinks are expensive. There is plenty of shaded areas when you need a break. Wear a hat and bring lots of sunscreen. The only downfall is parking. I bought a pass for the Orange Lot. There is no flow to the parking and you have cars in a line, cars cutting people off and it is chaos. At one point after waiting in line for 15 min or so, they made us U Turn and enter in a different gate. We had to U Turn into oncoming traffic! There has to be a better system... until then, arrive early and have your patient hat on :)
