About

MercyMe has been releasing hits in the Christian rock genre since 2001, when "I Can Only Imagine" caught the attention of the public and became the most requested song on a mainstream station in Texas. Despite the band's success on conventional radio stations, the majority of ticket buyers expect MercyMe's concert tours to be religion oriented, and they are not disappointed. Fans who attended the Rock & Worship Roadshow in 2013 described the tour as uplifting and filled with spiritual hits that included "Word of God Speak,” “All of Creation” and "You Don’t Care At All." The latter song is from the 2012 album The Hurt & the Healer, which reached No. 1 on the Christian Albums Billboard chart.

Millard formed MercyMe with Jim Bryson and Mike Scheuchzer in Oklahoma, and after releasing independently, MercyMe signed with INO Records in 2001. Their first album earned the 2x Platinum certification from the RIAA after "I Can Only Imagine" won two Dove Awards. On 2002's Spoken For, which peaked at No. 2 on the Christian Albums chart, the title track was the most successful. 2004's Undone brought with it hits like "Here with Me," "Homesick" and "In the Blink of an Eye." 2006's Coming Up to Breathe was nominated for a Grammy, due to hit singles like "Bring the Rain," "So Long Self" and "Hold Fast." All That Is Within Me was released in 2007, with "God With Us" reaching No. 1 on the Christian Songs Billboard chart. 2010 saw the release of The Generous Mr. Lovewell, while 2012's The Hurt & The Healer featured "You Are I Am" and the title track as the most popular songs. MercyMe has plans to continue its tour for The Hurt & the Healer album in 2014.

    News Boys Rocked

by iReviewTheShow on 8/14/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

Concert was blasting hot...95 degrees and high humidity. Did not effect the show. New Boys were great really connected with the crowd. Mercy Me was OK, but the News Boys were our favorite.

    MercyMe & Newsboys

by Krashbrat on 8/14/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

It was a humid and hot night at the IA State Fair but these groups didn't seem to mind at all. Newsboys were the opening act and they did an AWESOME job. I could've listened to them for another hour. They were high energy, upbeat and the music and vocals sounded great. I was surprised at how many of their songs I actually new. Great show. MercyMe also gave a good concert. I loved the big screens and during a couple of songs they put the words on the screen so no one had an excuse not to sing along. The only downside is they had their music way too loud that it drowned out their vocals. Therefore, at times it felt more like a rock concert. Had their music been toned down a bit more I would've given this group a higher score. Overall, I enjoyed the concert.

    mercy me/newsboys

by floros on 8/14/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

both bands were very professional and exciting to watch they both played about the same amount of time one thing to change the merch they did not have signs up to tell you one side was for one band the other for the other so once you were in line you could only get what was on the side you ended up on.

    MERCYME:NEWSBOYS

by TinyT4OldSchool on 8/14/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

The concert was great! The only thing I would ask you to change was the volume. The words were distorted and hard to understand -- especially on the new songs. It seemed to be too loud for the speakers.

    Iowa: Mercyme/Newsboys

by jeanroxie on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

I think both groups we very intertaining with a message of God's love. I could feel God's presents in this place as many people worshiped God that night. This is what heaven is going to be like but hopefully cooler.

    Where are my ear plugs

by Sapphire59 on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

I only understood 20% or less of News Boys. The bass and drums were so freaking loud. AND I like the News Boys. Not a good experience. MercyMe was a little bit better but still really, really loud. I think I would have liked them better in a difference environment like a church where they can't crank the music up so loud that it breaks the stained glass windows. AND they are my favorite Christian group.

    Mercy Me Was Amazing!!!

by flyingguitar7 on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

Newsboys and Mercy me played a very good show. It was a comfortable grand stand. My only complaint was one speaker kept making a crackling/flopping sound so I think it may have been slightly blown out or being pushed too hard.

    too much bass

by Iowammfan on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

great music but the bass was too high. Seemed like Mercy Me phoned this one in. I was also concerned about the questionable devotional message. I don't think its advisable to tell your kids that they are perfect just the way they are. Only Christ is perfect and if we are perfect, why did God need to send his son. This is the reason modern American churches are producing lukewarm believers - no reason to change, "we are perfect". No reason for Christ, " we are perfect."

    Newsboys & Mercy Me good

by teacherkay on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

They were a good conbination concert. It was a bit weird hearing Michael Tate singing Newsboys stuff. Both groups the instruments were a bit to loud. It is hard to hear the vocals when the other is to loud.

    Brought me to tears

by Anonymous on 8/13/10Iowa State Fair - Des Moines

MercyMe is amazingly beautiful music and they are so great to hear live. I think they sound even better than on the CDs. The message that they give is so touching too. They warm your heart and let you know that God is always on your side and loves you all the time. Thank you for letting me be a part of something so beautiful.
