  • Opera

by Starbrakeman on 4/14/14Tilles Center Concert Hall - GreenvaleRating: 4 out of 5

Convenient, clean & modern concert hall, easy parking, great center view seat, tragic love story themed opera, ageless good story-line, great orchestra, great Telepront, great costumes, clever stage set using moveable rice paper screening. The lead singer who played Madame Butterfly was amazing and a very strong singer. The only thing I would change is that the other singers were not as strong or as loud as the lead. May have preffered a more evenly balanced cast but other than that it was a very enjoyable show. Highly recommended.

  • Madame Butterfly

by AnamariaQ on 4/14/14Tilles Center Concert Hall - GreenvaleRating: 5 out of 5

It was excellent !! the voices were superb and it was a very well done production. My husband and I enjoyed the performance very much.

  • Madame Butterfly was wonderful!!!

Excellent show! Only reason for not giving it a 5 star, the makeup was lacking.

  • Opera Columbus does it again!

    by New2Opera on 11/27/13Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the performance and the location! This was my first time seeing an opera, and I really appreciated the translations provided. I will definitely see another performance!

  • Beautiful!

by WestervilleLibrarian on 11/25/13Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The set was simple and realistic. Opera Columbus paired with OSU and the Columbus symphony orchestra and did an amazing job. There is nothing worse than tinny opera with too much vibrato...and there was none of that here.

  • Gorgeosity

by eugeorama on 11/25/13Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

A tremendous and passionate performance, excellently delivered and sung. Priti Gandhi's Cio-Cio San was pretty close to as good as I've EVER heard. Locally produced opera has returned to Columbus with exciting fervor. Also remarkable, the audience was large and had a satisfying (and somewhat surprising) density of young adults.

  • Poor Little Butterfly: Dress Rehearsal

    by Jo3sgal on 11/25/13Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

Overall, the performance itself was ok. I'm sure different costumes, hair and make-up was used for the actual performance, what I saw was lack-luster, at best. The scenery shifting and backgrounds reminded me of a high school play. The Prima Donna was WONDERFUL.. she was onstage for most of the performance. Her voice held out throughout. I was disappointed with Pinkerton. He was a little too young looking to be believable as a world-wise sailor. His voice lacks the power needed to portray such a scoundrel. There was no chemistry between the two at all. The little boy did a great job! Had I not been familiar with this opera beforehand, perhaps my opinion would be a little higher: Ho-hum.

  • Amazing! Must see!

by PRESCOTTE on 11/24/13Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I am fairly new to the Opera, and the previous performance I saw was by Opera Columbus called, The Magic Flute. I laughed and had a great time. This performance was opposite. It had love and romance, tragedy, politics, etc. It was just overall a great performance. Opera Columbus has done a great job modernizing Opera for "regular" people. I will continue to attend every opportunity I get. Can't wait until April to see The Pirates of Penzance, featuring the Opera Columbus cast. Always a good time had.

  • Madama Butterfly

by Allessandra on 11/23/13Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Was very nice. Especially admire the young child. A,mazing acting for such little tyke!!! Would have preferred another to play Madama -- perhaps the actress who played her assistant -- Suzuki -- the last 3 years. Suzuki's voice was excellent and her actting perfect. Suzuki's voice was great and her acting and demeanor wonderful.

  • Its a classic

by Ravencrest on 10/11/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 3 out of 5

I would give the performances a 3 out of 5 rating. They were good but not unforgettable. It may have been the acoustics of the venue but I did not get a feel of the richness of the music. I brought some friends with us and they were very happy with the presentation. It was their first opera.

  • amazing

by beykra on 2/19/12Tucson Music Hall - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

I love opera even though I have only heard opera through a cd or on pbs. I bought these tickets for my father for his birthday hoping I would enjoy the live performance. I was totally blown away! The shear pageantry was amazing. We were on the second balcony even though we could not see their faces we could feel the emotions. I absolutely loved it! and we are planning our next opera experience

We loved everything about Madama Butterfly. It was emotional and beautiful. It was our first opera and we will return for more. Our 13 year old son loved it as well. We highly recommend it.

  • Butterfly

by KateyKat on 2/11/12Tucson Music Hall - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

Enjoyed the music and performance. However, Act II dragged out much too long at the end - and 1/2 hour intermission was a bit much.

  • Definitely enjoyable

    by jujube1982 on 2/9/12Tucson Music Hall - TucsonRating: 4 out of 5

It was my first time to an opera and I was not disappointed. I wasn't pleased that it didn't start on time nor did the intermission end when it was supposed to; however, I suppose they add in slop time for stragglers. The music was beautiful and the set was...okay. Seriously, these singers were phenomenal, but the vessels they had to work with didn't match their talent. I guess I just expected better costumes and better makeup and a more detailed set. I will be more careful selecting the next opera I will see.

unbelievable. poignant, moving, and true to the traditional story. enjoyed every minute of it.

  • by Anonymous on 2/7/12Tucson Music Hall - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Extemely well done. Adam Diegel (Lt Pinkerton) is new to Tucson and is one of the finest tenors I have ever heard (Vienna State Opera, Salzburg Festival, Munich Opera, to name a few venues). I certainly hope he will be back.

  • Madama Butterfly was wonderful!

by Sidley on 2/7/12Tucson Music Hall - TucsonRating: 4 out of 5

This opera was delightful, wonderful and sad. Enjoyed it very much. The last scene could have been shorter. The stage settings were very stark...could have been much more colorful. The voices were all very rich...great singing. Good casting.

Amazing enjoyed every minute. Would recommend it to ayone who has not seen it.

  • Lovely voices but visually boring

by DCOperaFan on 2/7/12Tucson Music Hall - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

The singing was lovely, with strong voices, and the orchestra did a nice job. Unfortunately the choreography was non-existent, the singers barely moved onstage. The set and costumes were equally unexciting. I would recommend this company for their musicality, but hope they work a little harder next time to attain the magic of true opera.
