Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation present

LUCINDA WILLIAMS

THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation is thrilled to announce one of America’s finest singer-songwriters, LUCINDA WILLIAMS will head to New Zealand for one show only, playing Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday December 4.

It’s been three years since the immensely talented Lucinda Williams graced our shores and we’re honoured to welcome the three-time Grammy Award winner back to New Zealand for a one-off intimate performance. Renowned for marrying rock, blues, country and soul, Lucinda heads our way, with stellar band in tow; including Wallflowers guitarist Stuart Mathis and her irreplaceable rhythm section, David Sutton on bass and Butch Norton on drums.

Tickets for this one-off performance will go on sale at midday Monday, October 12.

My Live Nation and Southern Fork members can be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sales commencing at midday tomorrow, Friday October 9.

For complete tour and ticketing details, visit: www.livenation.co.nz.

With a recording career spanning 12 albums and nearing four decades, Lucinda Williams is touring on the back of her brilliant 2014 double-album release, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was voted Album of the Year at the 14th Annual Americana Awards last month.

The album includes 20 new songs with all but two of the tracks written solely by 62-year-old Williams. From the very personal ‘Compassion’ penned by her poet father, Miller Williams and sung into being by Lucinda, to the closing, beautifully epic rendition of JJ Cale’s ‘Magnolia’; Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is testament to Lucinda’s prowess.

Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone joins a distinguished discography including 1978 debut Ramblin’ on My Mind, 1988’s eponymous breakthrough, Lucinda Williams and 1998’s landmark Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

  • A religious experience

by Leo D on 10/24/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Love Lucinda and am so happy I finally got to see her. Even after her stroke she still makes the effort to share so much with her fans. Her voice is perfect!

  • Awesome show as usual

Lucinda sounded great and put on an amazing show! Nice story telling, song selection and what an incredible band!

  • Don’t Miss This Tour

by Connecticut Karen on 10/24/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

An overwhelming concert and I’ve seen Lu too many times to count. Everything about this concert is incredible and Lu’s voice is in fine form. Buick 6 always deliveries. I can not wait to see this again Friday at The Beacon!

  • Lucinda Williams: Down But Far From Out

by skafro on 10/24/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Despite a poorly planned pre-concert entrance by the Orpheum's staff, making many concertgoers wait in a long line outside the theater in pouring rain, the concert itself was a huge success. As many of Lucinda's fans know she suffered a stroke about a year ago and it was evident she was physically diminished - sitting in a chair for about three-quarters of the show. Nevertheless, her voice was in great form. Like many aging performers she chose to make the night an autobiographical journey through her life and musical career. I think this is now a common fallout for older musicians thanks to Springsteen's Broadway shows. I've been to three shows in the last two years where aging performers did this. Her choice of songs, including a number of covers, was well thought out spanning most of her career Her early remarks about how she got into the folk/country/Americana music business were very interesting. However, as the show went on her patter became somewhat repetitious and began to distract from the music. She admitted herself that she has a tendency to ramble in her monologues. The band was excellent and complemented her well. Fortunately he vocals were mixed well enough so her lyrics could, for the most part, be heard over their playing. The one outstanding criticism I have of the show was the visual accompaniment on the screen behind the band. It was amateurish in the worse sense and extremely distracting. If it was her Lucinda's intent to provide a visual aspect to her autobiographical presentation then she and her people should have spent time putting together something more professional. It made me long for the days when groups like the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane accompanied their concerts with the wondrous visuals from the Joshua Light Show Co.

  • A fan treat

by Ironman on 10/24/23Michigan Theater - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

This show was a fans treat as Lu told a story about most every song.Although she still is not able to play guitar her voice was still fairly strong.Hopefully playing more shows will strengthen her and she can continue to tour. Her band was on point and I was thrilled that a pedal steel was used this time.I look forward to another show and will continue to spin the numerous LP's that I have now.

  • Lu at the Cap !

by E3 on 10/23/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

I’m a longtime Lucinda fan and really wanted to see her on this tour. I got tix to see her at the Capitol theater last Thursday, even though I knew it’d be a late night and I had to work Friday. Over the years I’ve seen Lucinda I think 6 times , and each performance seems better, and this one was no exception! -the concert featured songs from throughout her career, and between songs she reminisced & told of some of her thoughts & events that led her to write each song . The insight into her songwriting made for an intimate & moving performance , her band Buick 6 was great ! Lucinda seemed a bit unstable on her feet and sat for a few songs, , and said she can’t play the guitar since her stroke, but is working on it ! However her voice was as loveley or even lovleyer than ever ! It reaches right into your soul ! All in all , the Concert at the Cap Thursday was fantastic, and as I said , deeply moving , I was so glad I went , and was left wishing that I could go see her again the next night!

  • Great Time

by Stone on 10/23/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda was awesome. What a treasure she is. The venue was great as usual and the fans were welcoming and humble. Not too much cell phone use which is great.

  • Very moving experience

She came across as very human, not like a big star.

  • Excellent

Loved hearing her stories and appreciated the love of her fans for her

  • A Brave Performance

by Glenn on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Many performers would balk at the idea of performing while recovering from a stroke but, as is her character, she prefers to look the realities of life squarely in the eye. Her songs, be they about the sweet or the sour of life, were delivered with the deepest honesty and a soulfulness that knows the frailty of the human body but her spirit will not be conquered. A GREAT show!

  • Another truly wonderful show at the Cap!

by KMo54 on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Lu absolutely killed it, the show, from start to finish was brilliant! Lu is still recovering from a stroke and isn’t yet able to play guitar and required some assistance getting around the stage but she was still a commanding presence. Her backing band, Buick 6, was absolutely amazing. The show itself felt very intimate, like we were hanging out in a large living room. Lu is such a wonderful storyteller, providing a back story to virtually every song they played. Loved every moment ❤️

  • Beautiful lady Lucinda

  • Hearfelt and genuine music with generous context

by Andy on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 4 out of 5

It was a very special and personal evening. I have always loved Lucinda’s music, but had never seen her live. Her genuine connection to her audience and desire to enlighten us about each song’s roots mad the evening truly wonderful.

  • Wonderful and insightful

by Mike Smith on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the most personal shows I have ever been to. Thank you, Lucinda, for sharing. Your voice is better than ever!

  • Concert (with narrative)

by spraymark on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the show. It featured her musical performances and had running, spoken backstory segments. I enjoyed hearing about the early days of her career. This occasionally bogged down but there seemed to be a song coming up fairly soon. I thought the band had worked out nice arrangements of her material. I saw her perform a free show in New Haven, CT several years ago. That band did a lot of "shredding". What her current band was doing supported her songs better.

  • The great Lucinda Williams

by Rockgirl on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely great. Such a special evening So glad I got to share in it

  • WONDERFUL!

by PIKE! on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda Williams, recovering from a stroke, is not really able to move around much and her narratives are slow to the punch- DOESN'T MATTER, she was wonderful. [Her singing is not "slow to the punch,"for sure!] She is right on target and her band is tight TIGHT, amazing really. I went to see it with a very good guitarist and, he too, said he was blown away by the musicianship, singing and everything else as well!

  • Great show

by John S on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda is a great storyteller as well as a great songwriter. Had a great time at the show. The band was also great.

  • She has still got it

by JL on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Her unfortunate stroke has not stopped her. Still a story teller letting everyone know the reason she wrote that song. She had the audience laughing and cheering. Fabulous show

  • Lucinda

by TS on 10/22/23The Capitol Theatre - Port ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Had a wonderful experience at the Capitol Theater. Staff great, ambience fun. We didn't know what to expect; actually we expected the worst when Lucinda was led to the stage. But then she started singing and we were entertained for 2 and a half hours; great story telling and wonderful songs. Songs we knew for years were given new meaning when she explained the context of the writing. We thought this was one of our best concert experiences. That voice has not changed.
