Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation present

LUCINDA WILLIAMS

THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation is thrilled to announce one of America’s finest singer-songwriters, LUCINDA WILLIAMS will head to New Zealand for one show only, playing Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday December 4.

It’s been three years since the immensely talented Lucinda Williams graced our shores and we’re honoured to welcome the three-time Grammy Award winner back to New Zealand for a one-off intimate performance. Renowned for marrying rock, blues, country and soul, Lucinda heads our way, with stellar band in tow; including Wallflowers guitarist Stuart Mathis and her irreplaceable rhythm section, David Sutton on bass and Butch Norton on drums.

Tickets for this one-off performance will go on sale at midday Monday, October 12.

My Live Nation and Southern Fork members can be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sales commencing at midday tomorrow, Friday October 9.

For complete tour and ticketing details, visit: www.livenation.co.nz.

With a recording career spanning 12 albums and nearing four decades, Lucinda Williams is touring on the back of her brilliant 2014 double-album release, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was voted Album of the Year at the 14th Annual Americana Awards last month.

The album includes 20 new songs with all but two of the tracks written solely by 62-year-old Williams. From the very personal ‘Compassion’ penned by her poet father, Miller Williams and sung into being by Lucinda, to the closing, beautifully epic rendition of JJ Cale’s ‘Magnolia’; Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is testament to Lucinda’s prowess.

Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone joins a distinguished discography including 1978 debut Ramblin’ on My Mind, 1988’s eponymous breakthrough, Lucinda Williams and 1998’s landmark Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

  • She is sadly a shadow of her form self

by Long time fan on 10/30/23Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

After her stroke, her voice is diminished. Plus she needs a new writer to structure the narrative she's presenting to replace her songs. I think she was inspired by Bruce but the stories don't hold together and don't engage in the same way. Love her, she's been an all time talent but sadly not any more.

  • Lucinda is a real trooper

by Mike on 10/30/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

Great concert. Despite a stroke 1+ year ago, Lucinda did not miss a beat. I hope she will be able to play guitar again in future. Great backing band.

  • The music was great and I understand so much more now

by Truly Fantastic on 10/29/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

The honest and authentic personal stories and related pictures and video about Lucinda”s life added a substantially greater depth of understanding about the songs and about Lucinda. I was very entertained by her talking, The songs were awesome if course, The venue was intimate and the acoustics great.

  • Wonderful concert!!

by Galpal on 10/28/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

The venue is great.. intimate and good acoustics. We had great seats! Lucinda Williams is an amazing songwriter and performer. The back up band was superb. She is in fine voice, and so courageous to come back after a stroke. I loved the anecdotes she told leading up to each song, and the slideshow of old photos was so poignant. Just really enjoyed seeing and hearing her live. She did over two hours.. the crowd was totally with her. So glad I went!

  • Her Light Burns Bright

by Chuck's Take on 10/28/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Lucinda at Capitol Hall in Mclean, (Tysons Corner) VA. Spectacular new 1200+ seat classic auditorium in sparkling new hight rise center. Ticketmaster Help Center lived up to its name by straightening out hassle with Premium Parking (well worth it for this urban venue). Audience hugely supportive and Lucinda, still recovering from her stroke, gained strength with each round of applause, finishing standing and unbowed after a two hour plus show. Her band rocked awesomely. Five stars to a courageous, committed artist and total respect to her fan base.

  • Simply the Best

by Calhoun on 10/27/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

She was fantastic!!!! Fantastic times ten!!!! Lucinda and the entire Band were outstanding!!!!! One of the best shows ever!!!!

  • Unique and touching performance

by Pedro on 10/27/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 4 out of 5

I didn’t know quite what to expect going in, and was a little impatient with the pace of the show for the first 15 minutes. Then I realized that this is not a typical concert that runs through a rapid succession of songs. Lucinda told pretty long stories before each some in the first half of the concert. Once I got out of my manic concert mode and relaxed, I really enjoyed hearing her reflections and life stories. Her song selection also included several I had not heard before (I was not a die hard fan like 99% of the people there) and loved the song selection. Her voice is great, the band it rocking, and I had a great time. If you go, and I recommend you do, you just need to chill and soak it in.

  • Lucinda is a treasure

by Ms. L. on 10/27/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda did a fantastic show. I especially loved her stories between songs. The visuals were a great addition. I hope to see her again next time she's in town.

  • She's great but a little too long

by Nola on 10/27/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 4 out of 5

She sounds great and enjoyed her stories somewhat. But they went on too long which made it too late of an evening for a Tues. Left early, after 2.5 hours. Sad I had to miss some of her songs.

  • Great songs; heartwarming stories; wonderful voice

by Jimbo on 10/27/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

This was the third time I have seen Lucinda. Post-stroke and post-memoir, her performance takes a different path at a slower pace. She created an intimate personal story atmosphere in a stark, cold (acoustically good and very comfortable) venue. Her voice has never sounded better.

  • Another Great!

by LIB on 10/27/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

Fully enjoyed seeing Lucinda share stories of song writing and her expensive catalog

  • Great show!

by Jam on 10/27/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

This was an excellent show that covered Lucinda's entire career. Her stories made the songs relevant to the audience. Over 20 songs covered with in depth stories of each. One things I wished would have been more songs off of her latest album.

  • Singer songwriter extraordinaire

by Alan P on 10/27/23Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 5 out of 5

Great combination of Lucinda’s personal biography, with the stories and the songs that came out of it. Concert began with some great covers by her favorite artists growing up.

  • The ultimate Lucinda Williams show

by ks37 on 10/27/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

If you are a big fan of Lu and are interested in blues, folk, and rock culture from the sixties forward, this was the ultimate show. 2 1/2 hours of career spanning songs preceded by Lucinda explaining the background and accompanied by video - great format for true fans and a challenge if you expected a "normal"concert. She is still hobbled physically by her stroke and can't play guitar, but her voice sounds better than it has in 20 years - I have seen her many times and I am not exaggerating! Some of her personal stories are universal in nature and resonated; for me this peaked with beautiful renditions of "Little Angel, Little Brother"and "Bus to Baton Rouge". The band was first rate as usual and could be subtle or rock out as required.

  • Great voice, awesome guitars

by Mark from Mass on 10/25/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Lucinda over a dozen times, this time her voice was in fine form, stroke be damned. I've also seen guitarists Doug Pettibone and Stuart Mathers with her, separately, over the years, but to see the two together was an absolute high point. They have both supported Lucinda well but to see an hear the interplay between the two of them was a masterclass in duel guitar virtuosity. Adding in the solid foundation of Butch on drums and David on bass was the musical glue that held it all together. Lucinda's extensive narrative gave insight to the inspirations for her songwriting. While I am usually content to hear nonstop music, I must admit that I have never been more receptive and appreciative of the words of a singer from the stage. The audience was captivated by the music and the narratives from the two and a half our set, and I would have happuly stayed for more. Let's hope Lucinda keeps touring, with this lineup, and comes back to New England for many more shows.

  • Intimate, real, moving

by Boots on 10/25/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Lucinda is certainly still recovering from the stroke she suffered last year. Although her mobility is impacted her wit, her spirit and her voice are not impacted in the least! At the Orpheum we are all close (a good thing) and that is what we all felt. A closeness to Lucinda, her music, the stories and the songs we all know so well. So glad we all could share this with her :-)

  • Outstanding show!

by Elle B on 10/25/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda Williams was in fine form - voice sounded great, and her storytelling made the show very special.

  • Storytelling at its best!

by Rick on 10/25/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda and her band delivered a great night of music and storytelling. It was fun to watch old home videos on the screen behind her as she sang about the people and places that inspired her songs. I flashed back to some memories of my dad as she sang lyrics written by her dad. What an artist! Highly recommend!!

  • Lots of Love from the audience

by PJ on 10/24/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The show started a little slow but Lucinda soon got into her songs. I loved the stories she told about her life and the inspiration for her songs. Her voice was strong and sounded like the recordings. Her band played with energy and seemed to enjoy themselves. I’m a recent fan and feel very lucky to have attended.

  • not disappointed

by ptfromstl on 10/24/23Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Great show (I saw her 2x this tour). Lucinda's voice is rich and her resilience and humility in the face of her stroke last year are moving. The band is amazing and from a guitar rock angle this thing is just kicking. She's got a lot to say between songs since this show is pretty autobiographical. GO!
