Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation present

LUCINDA WILLIAMS

THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 2015 – Round Up by arrangement with Live Nation is thrilled to announce one of America’s finest singer-songwriters, LUCINDA WILLIAMS will head to New Zealand for one show only, playing Auckland’s Vector Arena on Friday December 4.

It’s been three years since the immensely talented Lucinda Williams graced our shores and we’re honoured to welcome the three-time Grammy Award winner back to New Zealand for a one-off intimate performance. Renowned for marrying rock, blues, country and soul, Lucinda heads our way, with stellar band in tow; including Wallflowers guitarist Stuart Mathis and her irreplaceable rhythm section, David Sutton on bass and Butch Norton on drums.

Tickets for this one-off performance will go on sale at midday Monday, October 12.

My Live Nation and Southern Fork members can be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sales commencing at midday tomorrow, Friday October 9.

For complete tour and ticketing details, visit: www.livenation.co.nz.

With a recording career spanning 12 albums and nearing four decades, Lucinda Williams is touring on the back of her brilliant 2014 double-album release, Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was voted Album of the Year at the 14th Annual Americana Awards last month.

The album includes 20 new songs with all but two of the tracks written solely by 62-year-old Williams. From the very personal ‘Compassion’ penned by her poet father, Miller Williams and sung into being by Lucinda, to the closing, beautifully epic rendition of JJ Cale’s ‘Magnolia’; Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone is testament to Lucinda’s prowess.

Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone joins a distinguished discography including 1978 debut Ramblin’ on My Mind, 1988’s eponymous breakthrough, Lucinda Williams and 1998’s landmark Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.

  • Lucinda at Bluebird sucked!

by dado on 9/24/09Bluebird Nightclub - BloomingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Lucinda couldn't find the right key on her second song. Took three tries. Took waaay tooo much time talking between songs. Also, could the management at the Bird turn down the friggin a/c just a little? It was stifling. Stood and sweated thru 3 songs and couldn't take anymore. Overall, the whole thing sucked.

  • Lucinda's Concert & Wedding in Minneapolis

The concert was great one of her best performance's we've seen. Wedding was fabulous!

  • Simply the best!

by kdhaef on 9/21/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Lucinda numerous times in concert at the State, First Avenue & the Zoo but this was by far the best show. Playing songs from her 30 years on stage an excellent balance of material and ride through her career. To be topped off with a wedding ceremony a poem by her father and her appreciation for her fans was just the best.

  • An amazing show!

by DrewAnDrew on 9/20/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda's wedding show was unforgettable - she swapped blue jeans for a fancy outfit and her wedding went off without a hitch. She performed a mix of new and old, from "West" to "Lafayette" and her voice carried remarkably. Drinks were strong, and the vibe was positive throughout. All in all, a great show.

  • A night to go down in the Rock n Roll history book

by JosieLa on 9/20/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda is one of my favorite musicians. I felt privileged to be a part of her wedding ceremony. Her concert is certainly in my top favorites of all time. Love First Avenue as well!

  • Wow!

by TrinityMN on 9/20/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I went there with my best friend we were so excited about seeing you in concert the very first time ever! We thought you were incredible! Your voice was completely amazing! Loved how you sung songs from each album. How you told us a little background of each song only meant that much more to us. The band was rockin'! Great job!! Then...we were so completely surprised to figure out that you were getting married on stage and we could be part of such an amazing experience for you, for us. It meant so much to us. Thank you so much! We think you are an amazing artist with amazing talent.

  • Lucinda in fine, albeit short, form

by FightingSioux on 9/20/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

A great show before a packed house to kick off the 30th Anniversary Tour. Playing deep cuts and classics from all of her albums, LuLu breathed new life into many of her old tunes, including her earliers Americana folk efforts on the Smithsonian label. When she moved into some of her songs from Essence, I quickly realized that she seemed to be moving a bit too fast and shouted out to Lucinda that she was indeed doing so. My date reminded me that it was Lucinda's wedding night so of course she would be racing things along as it were. The wedding itself was a real deal, with parents and family in tow. Miller William's time at the microphone reading his poem finished by Lucinda at five years of age was great. Both bride and groom looked a bit nervous on the vows, and seemed to be marrying the crowd rather than each other as they generally looked to the crowd, or the floor, when reciting the vows rather than into each other's eyes. I'll give 'em two years but that is another debate. The encores, Happy from the Stones and It's Only Rock n' Roll from her latest album, were it. In that it was First Avenue, her self proclaimed favorite venue, and in that it was her wedding night, we expected her to return and play all night long. No such luck. The show was over just over two hours, start to finish, twenty songs, including encores. All of it great indeed, but much too short.

  • Lucinda Williams still has it!

by Kimer on 9/19/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

I like Lucinda. She rocks and is re-inventing herself. The band she backs herself with is first rate. Her new music is good, different, yet is still her. I will go to every show she does with only one exception, see below: Maybe I'm too old, but when I go to a concert, I am there for the performer. Last night, at First Ave, it seemed too many people could care less about the show. We found a decent place to watch the show. I paid about $45 to see the show. Apparently some of the people were there on someone others money. They spent most of the time shouting at each other, taking pictures of themselves (with a flash), and drinking. My friend and I gave up and went to the back, behind the glass wall. We could see there too, but the sound was lousy. At this point, we will never return to First Ave again.

  • Lucinda and Mark were awesome:)

by Aikimatt on 9/19/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts of the 150 or so I have attended in my life. Played their hearts out. Guitarists were hitting it hard and had great rapport. There was a special feeling going on and it became obvious this was not to be just any concert. After the first comeback on stage things got quiet, Lucinda got choked up and sang a couple of very personal songs. Then she announced what was special and who were the special guests tonight. She was getting married on stage live and her wedding party was here. Her Dad read one of his poems Cotter Williams if you do not know him look him up. His mentor was Robert Frost. The poem had meaning because Lucinda at 7 was the one who finished it for him. Then Mark her husband and the other family and friends joined in for the ceremony. Afterwards they rocked on with her new Hubby Mark picking up an axe and cutting through a few numbers with the band. Sounded real good on "If you wanna get to the top of Rock and Roll!" Great night - Congarts Lucinda and Mark.

  • Lucinda Williams

    by My2Cents on 9/19/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

It was a fantastic revue of many of her best songs throughout her career. Her ballads are transfixing, her rock songs jump your soul. Her voice is unique and beautiful.

  • Lucinda Williams

by reeshasgirl on 9/19/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Dressed in black, with killer black boots, Ms. Williams took the stage with a little wave, and a declaration that "there seems to be magic in the air, t'night." Besides getting married, having her poet laureate father read us the poem "Caterpillar," and being in fine voice, she put on a great show that was, indeed magic. Lucinda engaged with her "guests" and gave brief synopsis of the where and why of each song-even reading off scores for the words to some of the oldies.

  • lucinda williams is eternal

by ryeblue on 9/19/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Actually, I had a problem getting there but I have no doubt from shows past that this show was absolutely fabulous, out of the world amazing and am sad that I didn't get to come. I kept my ticket as a remembrance. I was there in spirit--rock and roll! Love to Lu and Tom!

  • Lucinda got MARRIED!

by bluesamigos on 9/19/09First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

awsome performance, great energy, unbelievable musicians overall great time. the marriage ceremony with her Dad reading the poem made this a show no one who was there will ever forget!

  • Buick 6 and Lucinda Williams put on a great show!

by WMJPMilwaukee on 7/23/09Vogue Theatre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Not often is the backing band of the head liner also the opening act. Buick 6, Lucinda William's band, did just that as they performed instrumental versions of several rock classics from Dick Dale to Led Zeppelin. The band got the packed house at Vogue Theatre reved up for Lucinda Williams who came out and delivered her usual outstanding show. As one of Americas most talented song writers Lucinda writes real songs about real people and real feelings. It is impossible not to feel personally connected to her while listening to the stories she sets to penetrating music. When she sings lyrics like, you stole my joy and I want it back, there is no misunderstanding, anyone who has ever had their heart broken knows the pain and anger of which she speaks. Lucinda Williams is the real deal. And on this night I was one in a capacity crowd enjoying every note and every word of every song she and Buick 6 offered to her enthusiastic fans.

  • Lucinda was amazing

Lucinda Williams rocked the show!! She was amazing to watch.. The band members were also super fantastic. Highly recommended.. !!!

  • Lucinda was great, but...

    by sammy2 on 7/18/09Vogue Theatre - IndianapolisRating: 3 out of 5

Lucinda was great and her band was awsome. However The Vogue and the crowd were terrible. You can't see the stage and everyone was walking around all night instead of watching and listening to the show. I hope I can see her again in a better venue.

  • Better and better.

by Wildbillskcblues on 7/17/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Lucinda reminds me of two of my favorite artists. First, like Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda just seems to get better with age. Her voice seems to improve every time I see her. Like another favorite, Delbert McClinton, her fan base gets bigger and bigger. As has Delbert, Lucinda has always has a solid and very loyal fan base. Over the last several years, however, it seems to have grown in size exponentially. Seeing her at the VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino was a real treat. There was a lot of open space for the fans to get close to the stage. Songs from many of the old albums with a mixture of stuff from the newest album provided a well balanced show. After the show I got to speak with Lucinda who is just as nice in person as she seems on stage. She signed an album and several CD's. I was able a couple of weeks later at the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival in Davenport, Iowa to see Bo Ramsey. Bo has worked a good deal with Lucinda. I was quite a month for music. Wild Bill

  • falling into mediocrity

by BasilGanglia on 7/16/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas CityRating: 2 out of 5

This was my 5th Lucinda concert and definitely the least inspired. The sound was great, the venue pretty good, but the song selection and delivery was anemic at best. Lucinda was a tired woman at the end of a tour and it showed. What is so disappointing in this show and the Little Honey CD it supports is the Hick Chick Shtick approach that has crept into her work since Essence. Slurring, posing, drawling her way through catch phrases and mind-numbing repetition.. this is not the poet of "Sweet Old World", the unstoppable "Happy Woman Blue" or the mythic writer of "Car Wheels". My first Lucinda concert was Lawrence KS right after Car Wheels was released. I dragged my wife to this one. She hated "Concrete and Barbed Wire" for the twang but grudgingly admitted "Metal Firecracker", "Jackson" & "Fallen Angel" were well worth a listen. The look on her face when Lucinda attacked the material (and I credit Jim Lauderdale, bless him & Donna the Buffalo) was sublime. Bruce Springsteen as a woman. Patti Smith doing country rock. Jeez, she was magnificent. My wife left the show a true believer. Lucinda's previous show at the Voodoo Lounge had it's flat spots but "Blue", "Essense" and a few other songs really showed depth and delivery. Not this time, I'm afraid. Buick 6 was a pretty lame band, even doing Led Zeppelin (reminding us why they chose the name). the insult-to-injury portion was in the Rod Stewart cover, "Every Picture" and the encore "Motherless Children" that fell flat. The good news, Lucinda looked great, fit and ready. The bad, she was tired and disinterested. She needs new material, not old postures to reinvent herself like Annie Lennox or Rickie Lee Jones.
